View Full Version : Fantastic Four 511 (Spoilers)
Homo Arachne

To begin with, why isn't anyone else discussing this issue?
Let's see, Ben Grimm comes back (yes!), God is a comic book writer (ego trip, anyone?), Reed gets his face fixed by the Mighty Cosmic Pencil Eraser of the Omnipotent (cute, but..._ and it seems that the FF are set up to have a happy ending. The artwork was impressive, in my opinion, and it's good to have the Ever-Lovin', Blue-Eyed Thing back in action.
Anyone have anything else to say, or am I just overly giddy that Benny Boy's back?

The FF visualize God as Jack Kirby, according to Mark Waid. This run is FF at it's absolute worst, ever. Bring me the head of Tom Brevoort (editor of Avengers and FF)!

Eh, you might hate it, but I'm lovin' it, especially since the Thing's back in action. Quite frankly, I'm a bit surprised at some of the writing, but it's fun anyways.
And yes, it's Kirby, which means his associate is none other than The Man.
Homo Arachne
Yes it's a fourth wall moment but it's filled with heart. Besides, they said they would meet their creator. They didn't actually say he was God.
Anyone who didn't get what was actually being said here has got no heart.

To each his own. I'm actually enjoying Waid's run immensely. Some of the best writing the book has enjoyed in quite some time.
Jack Kirby is God and Stan Lee has a direct line.
'Nuff Said!!!
The worst run ever on FF was back when Thing was running around with a bucket on his head and a female thing as his chick.
Even Herbie was worried back then. LOL!

I'm loving this comic. I picked out Jack Kirby the second I saw him and knew it was Stan omn the phone with him.
this is classic. I love Mark Waid's Fantastic Four.
What's next?
I would love to get the comic but I can't get by the art. I'm just not happy with it. But at least I get to read the book in my comic shop when it comes out.

HAH!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Jack Kirby!!! No longer "The King" but now "The God"!!! Loved it, loved it, loved it.
The reaction of The FF, when they opened the door-
"Was anyone else expecting this?"
"No."
My reaction perfectly! I have to say I was very hesistant about the whole God angle, but when it turned out to be Kirby, it was perfect!
Great story and great art (sorry ro_gan, but I have liked ringo since his days on The Flash)
FF at it's best!! "4" isn't bad either, but continuity issues always leave a bad taste in my mouth.

No apologies necessary, skyounkin.
I am old school and I still believe the best FF art was when "Jumpin' Joe" Sinnot was on the book. I actually enjoyed Sinnot's artwork over Byrne's art.
MK4 appears to take place between the Loeb/Pacheco run and the current Waid/Weiringo run.
I am a personal continuity nut myself. The characterisation of the whole team is so dead on and perfect though that I'm willing to let things slide a bit. The book is an excellent introduction of the team to new readers.
It's kind of funny that Ro-Gan brings up Sinott concerning another thread we've been talking on. I really do appreciate him as an artist, but as an inker he tends to act like he drew the book. Only Kirby had a unique enough style where he couldn't get away with this.
The only two things Ringo does that I hate are these. One Thing looks like a teddy bear instead of a monster, and the 3D "4" logos on their chests (a problem over in Iron Man as well that suddenly technology is bigger and bulkier than before).
I wish they would return to the Pacheco uniforms of the drk blue and stylized white "4" logos with buckle boots and requisite jackets (the uniforms they wore throughout Larroca's run). Why Pacheco ignored his original designs and went back to the ugly powder blue jumpers I will never know.
I thought Byrne had put our powder blue days behind us forever. LOL!

IMO, it was a mixed ending.
I loved it when Reed was scarred by Victor, it was a shocker that brought a new perspective to the whol story.
Even though it was great to see Kirby as "God," or at least the Deity the pencils Life.
I was very upset to see Mark Waid take his entire run on the series, and literally erase it. It was almost like saying "Hey, I've spent the past 11 issues leading up to a point where I make those 11 issues pointless."

that isnt true though, becasue all the damage done to the FF's lives still exists. Kirby didnt erase what happened, just the scar on his face.

Well I must admit, I am going to have to check out this issue now that I have read this thread. I think Kirby is the greatest above all others, but I wouldn't refer to any man as a God. I'm sure this is all done tastefully.
I'm just curious, ro_gan, have you ever seen Kirby's work? Maybe the last 26 issues he did of the FF were not as great as the first 75 or 76, and I know there are a lot of Byrne fans out there, but IMO, he is not in the same league as Kirby, but then, you'll never convince me anyone is! I have found Kirby's art to be as described, where you could put work from a lot of artist together as in a colloge', and Kirby's work catches your eye over all the others!

One of my favourite touches of unthinkable was reed getting scarred. Now he goes and undones all his good work.
Well done, Mr. Waid.
(Incase you didn't realise, i was being SARCASTIC)

Reed is much better with a physical scar. This lent grit, marital turmoil and CHARACTER. Thing is overrated, but what would the Four be without him?

BZZZZZZZZZZTT!
Oh, sorry, but thanks for playing! But we do have a lovely parting gift for you: a years supply of Turtle Wax-for all your turtle waxing needs!
;)
The scar was unimportant. Reeds reactions to it was. And his reaction to it was his reaction to his failure. The whole quest quest to destroy Doom's legacy and get Ben back were the results of his feelings of failure. 'The Creator' merely took away he physical reminder once Reed was able to understand this and begin to move past it.
Better than watching that Mel Gibson piece of carp if you ask me....(and I know you didn't:cool: )

That is bunk. The scar is important. Reed's reaction to it is important as well....but so much for the scar and the reaction now. It was all erased.
See how silly that is....even for Marvel

OnedownCharlie,
Marvel didn't make this descision, Mark Waid did.
And hes known for his DC work probably more than his marvel work...
He played out that plot as far as he felt it needed to go.
And since the scar was his idea, maybe, hes the most qualified guy to decide when it was time for it to go, and why..
Just my opinion...
