Is it safe to read Aquaman again?

I collected all Aquaman comics throughout the eighties all the way through #60 of the last run. Things went horribly down hill after Peter David got fired. To the point where it hurt to see what they were even doing to Curry.

I passed on the relaunch because I read about the stupid rehash of his people turning on him for like the thousandth time after all he's done for them and the world.

Curry and Namor should tell their people where to stick it. Apparently Atlanteans from all comic companies are thankless back stabbers. LOL!

So the new creative team looks good at a glance. Is it worth my time to drop another title and return to the sea?

The new team sounds good.

Supposedly a very large costal town floods killing thousands... Aquaman goes to check it out and finds that a few of the survivors can breathe underwater... not on land anymore.

That's all I know but it looks good and the art looks good and it's getting good reviews so far.

They are definately trying.

Yes I think he should definately tell people where to stick it. But that would be like Superman b-tch slapping Lois because she put herself in danger again. Heroes don't do that.

I'd at least give it a look. Course, I have a soft spot of 2nd string characters. Always hoping they'll get a break and someone will make them cool.

The new Aquaman rocks. It begins strongs and keeps going. We are in the second "wave" if you will of this new title and the writers are making him DEAL with his temper.

I say, add it :)

Peter David's run on Aquaman was one of the best DC books ever! I can't recommend it highly enough.

Now if they would just give my main man Booster Gold his book back. LOL!

Add it looks like the way to go.

Whenever people look at me and say how can you love Aquaman? I find invariably all they have seen of him is Superfriends.

They don't believe me when I tell them he was never like that in the comics ever! He's always been the rebel DC Hero with a chip on his shoulder. He was the first one to take a realistic view toward his villains. Tons of heroes have lost parents, but how many had to deal with the bad guy killing their son?

Arthur Curry Rocks!

Oh and this is coming from a Marvel Fanatic by the way.

Namor ain't fit to wear Aquaman's fins or even hang out in his wake. LOL!

Flash (another second stringer) just lost his two unborn twins (girl and boy) and as a result might lose his wife as she can't deal with it anymore.

Seems that the whole orphan to hero thing is done...

I would like to get Aquaman... can't afford it along with everything else.

I say you wanna make Namor bad @$$? have someone chop his little ankle wings.

Having known the skies and lost it is a tragic thing. Plus it keeps this water-boy in the water.

I mean let's face it. Superman can hold his breathe a long long time and could fight crime underwater... but does he? Uh no, he can fly. That's why Namor never made much sense to me.

And someone get Namor a pair of freaking pants.
I swear him and Martian Manhunter need to realize the 80's are gone and tight tiney shorts just don't work for dudes.

The new creative team is great. Gulacy's art fits the title and they've got a nice little story going on right now. Pfieffer(sp?) seems to have a good handle on the character too. After his work on HERO, I'm curious to see how he handles a DC Mainstay. Hopefullly he can be successful enough that Aquaman will stick around for a while.

C'mon man...didn't you ever see that sketch from MTV's The State all those years ago? He talks to fish. Not terribly useful, if you ask me.....which you didn't. I've never liked Aquaman, but to each his own. Read 'em if you like 'em, I always say.

Batman. True, Jason Todd was adopted, but he's dead nonetheless.

I agree with the Aquaman love going around, here. And Peter David was pitch-perfect in his representation of the King. I really liked the first arc of the newest series, as it was doing something I, personally, hadn't seen before with him, but it felt like there was a constant tug-of-war over how "edgy" to take it. So the story arc as a whole isn't terribly consistant. I liked what they were doing with "new" atlantis, though.

The new arc I haven't really tried, mostly because I disagree with the retro rush to the silver age everybody seems to be on lately. Aquaman's biggest problem is his association with the Super Friends - so WHY give him that costume back? I loved it, too, back in the day, but the new togs he was sporting were just sweet as all get-out, and this new look feels more like two steps backward than any steps forward. It also looked too much like the writer was just going to drop everything the first arc had established for him, and that's frustrating.

So it might be real good, might be real bad, but I'm going to wait fo the trade and see how interested I am then.

I just read 15 and 16. I was heavily impressed. Aquaman is back on a steady course.

Namor is wearing the same underwear he had when he was created (does swiming count as cleaning?). He had a cool blue suit in the 70's which Jim Lee reused in the FF:Heroes Reborn volume. I guess the artists are too lazy to draw it though.

I like Curry better because his anger comes from issues and being a full person. Namor has always just been psychotic, and that doesn't interest me. John Byrne tried to fix him, but the moment he left other creators put Namor back the way he was.

I like both Aquaman looks, but actually preferred the blue wave motif costume from his early 80's mini. I loved the hook hand, but this new water one seems even cooler.

The flash isn't a second stringer...

I really like the new Aquman book, it's a good read.

Aquaman with the full beard and any form of severed hand is probably the BEST retooling of any character ever if for nothing else getting him away from the Supefriends image that has insulted DC for centuries

I mean seriously how many people refuse to read DC simply based on the bad image from the 60s-70s and belive that Marvel is the pinnacle of comics no matter HOW X-Sociopath orianted they become with their abundance of gun toting telepathic bi-sexual movie leather clad serial killing half-demon and/or angel spawned from nothing/plothole clones that get added every other issue.Heck lets have Wolerine kill of Magneto 3X an issue turn Nightcrawler into the anti-christ cannibal vampire impale a bunch of children for shock value and follow it up with a heaping helping of bad spontanius villain generation since after all as long as it has X in the title a million people would jump to the defense of even the most innane plotlines and churn out 25 bucks a week just to make sure they get it all

[Did you ever find it weird how easy it is for your mind to wander from one subject into a much bigger rant inducing one at 4am?Especially after a good helping of Duckman]]

Yes, but disturbingly true...

As to Aquaman's costume, my favorite one was the one Yvel Guichet (sp?) made in the first arc of the newest series. It was the water hand, it had the green pants, inreference to the classic, and a belt like he wears right now, but he was topless and the pants were more scaly/fishlike. I thought it was a great combo of the classic look and Arthur's modern sensibilities. But heck, what do I know.
