I would pick up the early 90s Midnight Sons titles from Marvel:
Ghost Rider
Spirits of Vengeance
Nightstalkers
Morbius
Darkhold Redeemers (least interesting, though)
Those books were awesome!!! If you like Marvel's horror corner of course.
You can get them all for more or less their original price at comic-book stores....so no problem in finding them.
cheers,
Dr.Morbius ;)

3 Outsiders
4 Legion
5 Green Arrow
6 All the obligatory Bat-family titles[Nightwing Batgirl Robin Birds of Prey]
7 Batman/Superman [Goofy at times but at LEAST Superman is done better than his other titles]
That other company
1 Amazing Spiderman
2 Avengers
3 Deadpool/Cable[looks ok so far]
4 Ultimate Spiderman
5 Ultimate F4 [and i HATE them normal F4]
Other still
1 CONAN
2 Usagi Yojimbo
3 Hellboy weird tales
[See Indy comics dont HAVE to be about bi-sexual asian ninja babes or angsty homocidal maniacs]

Marvel books I like:
Exiles.
Ultimate Spider-Man
Ultimate X-Men
Ultimates
Ultimate Fantastic Four
Captain Marvel
I'm a Deadpool fan, but Deadpool/Cable, I don't have high hopes for.
Daredevil
Hulk (Okay, I just like the character, the stories have been lame lately)
Inhumans
Avengers (it should get better soon)
Secret War (miniseries)
Captain America & Falcon (since I can't recommend Black Panther comics cuz it was freakin' cancelled)
DC Books:
Superman/Batman
Y The Last Man (that's Vertigo, isn't it?)
I'm tempted to start JSA, just because Superman/Batman made Hawkman look really awesome, and I like Captain Marvel.
Other:
Transformers, Voltron and GI Joe (only if you know the characters, not very good for new readers - I just dork out with what I grew up with)
Hellboy trades
Transmetropolitan trades
Hip Flask
That's for starters. I know I'm forgetting some stuff, too.

Assorted Titles (not by company)
*JSA
*Supreme Powers
*The Legion
*Fables
*Hellblazer
*Any of the Fantastic Four titles
*New Frontiers (limited series)
*The Pulse
*Flash
*Teen Titans Go (I'm not sure why - it's just amusing :))
Especially if you used to be into the Teen Titans, go for The Outsiders. If you're looking for a limited series, try to find some of Marvel's 1602. Also in Marvel, try the current Fantastic Four stuff.

Just bought myself the whole set of Superman/Batman 1 - 8 and i am ####ing pleased :)
I love the JSA unfortunately im at a dilemma of deciding wether to buy or not because its already at 55 (am i correct??)
i'd like to buy comics that would hopefully have some resale value by the time i get old and stiff, i wouldnt enjoy spending my money on something worthless even if it provided some entertainment.
excuse me, im kinda new to the comic scene and i delibetely bought teen titans and supes/bats because i could still get ALL of the books for collection, is my attitude towards comics logical or senseless?:ermm:

I'm still undecided. I think it's too early to tell where this title is going with the new writing team. The first and second issues were meh, nothing captivating other than the fact that parts of San Diego were utterly destroyed and submersed into the ocean. However, I'm anxious to see who is behind the destruction. Monthly, this story is alright; I think it will get considerably better as the plot progresses and would receive better perspective if read in trade paperback.

If all you really want is an investment for the future, then take your comic-book money and put it in the bank. You'll make more money that way than with any comic you could buy today.
Yes, comic books are more a form of entertainment than a decent source of investment. And who knows? The comic industry could bottom out to some new online thing in 30 or 40 years.
Buy what makes you happy. A collector should collect what they enjoy. It's not for us to decide what you'll like and nobody can decide what is truly going to do well in the future.
But a good shot is the Superman titles are going to start with Jim Lee as an artist soon. We saw what Jim Lee did to the price of the Hush line we expect the same with Superman.
For all you comic pro's out there, what is a collection?
do you have to start from num1 and end in the last ed (ex 100)?
what if u only have lets say num 50 - 100

What I'm reading currently:
Green Arrow ( good re-boot for this guy! pick up "Quiver" TPB )
Legion
JSA
Batman/Superman, Superman/Batman, World's Finest... Whatever that symbol actually means..
JLA
Green Lantern ( big things about to happen! )
Hawkman
All I'm reading right now are DC.

Dont worry much about collecting.Remember the old comics are worth so much because 80% of them were recycled for WWII and the next 15% simply got destoryed as time went buy.Rarity made them valuable and most comics these days are so numerous and well cared for that they arent likely to ever reach the level of comics old ones [and the fact that Comic book Icons dont just appear everyday these days].Just pick up good comics because you enjoy them maybe grabs some Number 1s now and then and enjoy the art form.If they go up in price great but im much happier with the memories i have now
My top 5 suggestions in no particular order:
-Teen Titans:
You're already getting this? Good start. Written by: Geoff Johns
-Flash:
If you want an old school superhero/super-villain book, this is great. Written by: Geoff Johns
-JSA:
Can't recommend this more highly. Excellent. Written by: Geoff Johns. Sensing a pattern?
-Fantastic Four
Trades are available for most of the Waid's run, so it'll be easy to catch-up on the story. Written by: Mark Waid
-Birds of Prey
Gail Simone is a great writer, and I like Ed Benes' art. A new story arc should be starting in an issue or two (if one didn't just start), so it should be easy to get going with this one.
I've recently have gotten back into some of the storys and series, but I've been picking up the TPB's and collected volumes. I find it's much cheaper and more story at once. If your current on the collections than your about three to six months behind the monthly stories.
Currently my favorite book is Y: the last man. It's not superhero based, just an awsome story.
other books I'm getting are:
The Flash (This is the only series I'm looking for the back issues on as well as the new collections)
JLA
JSA
Superman
Outsiders (I highly recomend)
Green Arrow
The Darkness (I like the anti hero)
Now I have picked up alot of Indy Titles at WWLA, My Favorite so far has been The Gift. If you have the chance to pick it up I highly recomend this one as well.
Now if you just want to look for where the talent is, anything from the Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale team ups are a must: Spider-man Blue, Hulk Grey, Batman the long Halloween, etc...
Anything by Geoff Johns or Mark Waid. (Doesn't matter if it's DC or Marvel they're all good)
JOHN CONSTANTINE: HELLBLAZER
Alpha Dog

JSA
Aquaman
Teen Titans
Legion
Wonder Woman

Batman/Superman is a good series. I actually love this series. The odd thing? I HATE Batman and Superman. Seriously. Can't really stand 'em. But the comic book is pretty darn cool.
Titans is also good. Either series, but the 'new' Teen Titans (not the toon based one) is pretty fun. Not a ton of action from what I saw (I got ish 6-9) but its still fun, and seems to have the action coming.
But hands down, by far, the best comic out there is JSA. Its the only comic I'd ever consider getting a subscription for its that good. Sure there's a lot of backissues, but find a good 'jump on' point (Black Reign story arc anyone?) be a bit confused but enjoy the stories, and keep on it and you'll find out that its magnificent.

I would select The Flash. Personally, I think it's better than Green Arrow right now.

haha i think we both share a common thing against Superman, i used to hate this guy but after reading the whole thing i kinda find myself liking superman.
Superman/Batman is gonna run for only 12 issues right? God i wish they made it permanent
God im so pissed at myself, i bought the Supes/bats #1 with batman at the cover for 10$ and guess what? Theirs a big crease down at the cover page...i never even noticed. You guys have a solution to this?
That was really stupid of me, i was concerned with the sides but was too blind to see the big crease!! GOD!!

:cheeky: Titans = Sweet

i have all the TPB of the JSA and i am starting to love them! Can anyone give me a good jump on point? Is Black reign the one with Atom Smasher on the cover?
I would select The Flash. Personally, I think it's better than Green Arrow right now.
Same problem with both Flash and Green Arrow...i need a "jump in point". Anyone kind enough to provide me with one? :noid:
thanks guys really preciate it :)
Im kinda tempted to try something in Marvel, Avengers perphaps, becuz its been so long since my last Marvel comic book...never really liked anything in marvel

I dropped GA because it seemed to be REALLY dragging
JSA is the best choice
It is my favourite series right now. Great story, artwork, characters
JSA has it all (except decent clicks of the characters...no, I don't resent Golden Age Flash (being a fouder of the team)not being a friggin' JSA, Hawkman (one of DC's most aggressive fighters) being reduced to a taxi with an attack of EIGHT for his Veteran)
And where is the current Mr. Terrific (that man PERSONIFIES Outwit), Doctor Mid-Nite (best surgeon), Wildcat, Sentinel (original Green Lantern), Spectre, Thunderbolt (and Johnny or Jakeem), Ma Hunkle (original Red Tornado)
Never mind great JSA villains like Per Degaton, Vandal Savage, Ian Karkull, Thinker, Huntress (no relation. Any more), Wizard, Extant
JSA RULES
tell me about it, i've been thinking what the new Sandman would look like and he is soo totally screwed unless WK comes out with better powers
Sandman should have:
Phasing
Smoke Cloud?
RCE?
Two arrows
6 range?
Leadership in maybe the R version?
Sandman can move the ground right? or was it anything that contained silicon?

At least Clix has the -best- (IMO) JSA bad guy ever, BigSoph. Ultra-Humanite. I love that guy as the JSA nemesis. But yeah, Per, Vandal, Wizard, Extant, they're all awesome chars that need a clicks.
But I'm kinda content with Grundy and Humanite now. Those are my fav JSA badguys.

Tell me about it. I loathe the Ultra-Humanite because of what he has done to the JSA; that's the sign of a good villain, right? I despise the guy; I wanna step on him like the Icicle did.
I will forever hate the Ultra Humanite for what he did to Johnny Thunder, and forcing Captain Marvel to do something that he obviously didn't want.
