This is real. My boss got the invoice for Wendsdays comics, and #13 is coming out this week.
I almost jumped and clicked my heels together. Planetary 19 is also coming out this week and its crazy...just crazy.
But Volume 2. Issue 1 is delayed so that they can make it monthly. SO...celebrate good times, come on!

Sorry, but the constant delays made me drop it after issue #8. Anyone want to trade me some LE's for the original prints of 1-10?

It is the finale to the first volume, wraps up the Chitori (sp?) storyline. Looking forward to Vol2 in like 2005 or something... :)

Blimey, Ultimates, JLA/Avengers and Planetay, all in the same week?
Excuse me while I change my underwear...and struggle to figure which one gets the top spot in the reading pile!
Yeah, thanks alot folks. It looks like I'll be dropping about $275.00 at the local comic book store this week, between my Unleashed case and all of the comics that'll be in my pull list.
My wife is going to just love that.

It's not true! It's not true!! I don't believe it! You people aren't going to #### me in again! Issue #13 is never going to come out! Issue #13 is my white whale!! Is there a wonder why it is #13????!!!
O.K. back to reality. If I go in on Wednesday and it isn't there, I'm driving to Marvel headquarters and pulling a Randy Quaid (in Christmas Vacation) on their patoots!!! This has to be the slowest series ever....
I think this issue will be "all Hulk, all the time". We've got the heroes fighting an apparently losing battle at the end of the last issue.
And, then, we've got their secret weapon being shoved out of a plane ... "You have permission to traumatize Banner." - Nick Fury.
I doubt the other heroes will do much but stand around and watch.

Yeah I think Hulk go a little overboard busting Skrulls.

Anyone else just a teensy-bit disappointed that Ultimate FF (not counting the "Ultimate Team-Up" spoof issue) didn't get to throw down first with the Skrulls?
DareDevil_13
03/30/2004, 00:33
Nah, I'd rather see the Ultimates throw down w/ the skrulls. One cool thing is that this whole Nazi/Chitauri thing was foreshadowed in ish #1. Cap is trying to stop a rocket from launching back in WWII, Bucky asks where they could get the technology, and Cap says "you wouldn't believe me if I told you."
Even if We get 4 more pages than other comics, it's terrible that the series has pretty much run on a quarterly basis.

Just to let everyone rejoice!!
All orders for Ultimates Vol2 have been CANCELLED!!!
Thank you very much Mr. Hitch!!
It will be resolicited at a later date when they have "more" issues in the can and the series plotted out....

No.
If you buy through a venue (which you should to support the little guy) it should "stay" on your sub no matter what unless YOU cancel it. If you are on a mail order subscription (it does save you money in the long run)- I don't know.......I am leaning towards "No" but it is dependent on if it's a 12 month subscription or a 12 issue subscription- 12 months is for a length of time and lets face it this ain't a monthly title no matter what junk Joe Q. is tellin' you. A 12 issues sub. is for the amount of actual comics you get. But what it really means is Vol 2 is still going on and will be re-solicited at a later date, so I am confident the answer is No, you'll just be waiting probably 6 more months to see Vol #2 issue 1..........Thank you Joe Q.
Sweet!!!!
I just bought the Ultimates issues 1-6 on DVD Saturday. I watched it Saturday night and am really jonesing for issue #13 now.
Unleashed, Ultimates #13 and every other comic I get--
The money is just flowing from me. :disappoin

How does that work? Is it still framed with sound effects and stuff, and very limited movement?.......Or is like a watch along audiobook?
Still framed with sound effects, different voices for the characters and limited movement.
They are amazing!
I found a bunch of them at T r U for $4.99.
So far I purchased:
Ultimates Vol. 1 (issues 1-6)
Ultimate X-Men Vol. 1 (issues 1-6)
Ultimate X-Men Vol. 2 (issues 7-12)
Ultimate X-Men Vol. 3 (issues 12-18)
Ultimate War (issues 1-4)
Way Of The Rat Vol. 1 (issues 1-6)
Way Of The Rat Vol. 2 (issues 7-12)
Sojourn Vol. 1 (issues 0-6)
Sojourn Vol. 2 (issues 7-12)
At $4.99/each these things were a steal!

Thanx Ro!! Might have to check 'em out- I wish DC would do something like this for their books......Buutttttt, not to be a conservative pill or anything, but is there some kinda of rating on these....cause I think Ultimates would at least rate a PG-13 rating what with the wife beating and hulk fight, I know I wouldn't show it to my 4 yr old until he was maybe my 8-10 yr old.......
I didn't notice any Rating, but then again, I didn't look.
I'll try to remember to look when I get home from work.

Anyone else think that it was ridiculous that they even needed Hulk? He did not do anything that Thor didn't.

I'm torn. I really liked the issue, but I'm still pissed that it took, what, 3 years to put out 13 of them?
This was one of marvel's top cash cows, and they put it out on a less than quarterly basis. This exemplifies how badly run Marvel is as a business.
Sure Hitch's artwork was great, but its harly like he's the only good artist working in the entire industry.
Look at Authority when it came out. Hitch made the book popular, then left and had other artists take over. People were a little put off at first, then realized they liked the new art too, and kept buying the book.
If I did my work at a quarter the speed I was hired to do it in, I wouldn't last past two months at this job.
I love Hitch's work, but there is no need to get a book as well written and all around good as this one once every blue moon.
#13 was great! A great tying up of loose ends and some interesting developments. I really don't like Betty. Hulk scenes were really cool, and he absolutely did a whole lot more in the destruction department than Thor, by that I mean he doesn't care who is the way. Thor continues to impress and confuse me. There are always hints about him but nothing is ever said outright, he just kind of smirks.
Castiglione
04/01/2004, 10:58
Everyone likes bashing Marvel, but it not really fair. Hitch is the only person that is slowing down The Ultimates and if Marvel tried to bounce him from the project, they would most likely lose Millar as the writer.
I hate it too, but it doesn't hurt me when it's late.
Sure it's a bummer, and sometimes(like with Alan Moore's ABC stuff) I have forgotten what happened last issue, and have to go back and reread. No biggie. Yes, I would rather have the book monthly, but I'll take what I can get when I can get it. At least with the Ultimates, when it shows up late, it still knocks the socks off of ya!

Finally a great book and get to see the Hulk with the Avengers....uhhhh i mean the Ultimates. I talked to David Finch at the LA convention personally while he drew me the Hulk. He said the Hulk is a definate in for the Avengers storyline that he and Bendis will be doing. GUSH

I kinda gotta go with one of the other guys (not sure right now who it was and too lazy to look it up) but the use of the Hulk in this story line was just silly. It really just addressed our baseline need for more destruction and quite frankly was offensive to our intellect.
Thor had things well in hand....er...hammer...you know what I mean. This was just shameless.

Uhmmmmm, I didn't see Thor chewing up and carping out the bad guy........
I think in times of extreme warfare the winner depends on who ups the ante enough....they have a bomb, Ultimates have the Hulk....I would go with the hulk.
AND!!!!.......ha ha ha......Vol 2 is pushed back even further now probably like until September!!!!

But Thor had to banish the bomb to Nastrond.
Plus we had to have some smiling points in the book.
Hulk: "Shut up!. Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP! Naked guy talk too much..."
Skrull: "Well, my friend. It would appear that congratulations are in..."
Hulk: "SHUT UP!!"
Cap: Well, I was talking to the pilots earlier and you know what they told me? You know what they were saying about you, Hulk? These guys called you a sissy bboy, buddy. You really gonna let them get away with that?
Hulk: "No! Hulk not sissy boy. HULK STRAIGHT!"
Thats the stuff that I can wait 5 months for.

This is the kinda stuff I don't think belongs in comics. Violence, death, destruction...ok. Breeding ignorance....nah. I know everyone will bash this idea but that really just proves my point.
*spoiler alert for those who have waited a whole week to read the comic*
Is it me or was that main Skrull guy a whole heck of a lot tougher than any Skrull (aside from that Super Skrull character) you've ever seen?
I mean he took a pounding from Cap and then turned around and got pounded on by Hulk and actually fought back for a while. It wasn't until Hulk ripped his head off that the guy was down.
I just don't remember Skrulls being that tough.
Oh and "Hulk's Straight!" has got to be the funniest thing since, well "Do you think this A stands for France?".
though the delay was great the issue was fine too. In a month or two nobody will care if it was late... the issue on it's own will stand.
They do have to work on that though. As it stands I didn't keep looking for it. I get enough comics that one or two being a little late doesn't throw me into a hissy fit.
Like I keep saying. If you don't want them late... don't buy the comic. All you are doing when you buy it is saying..."go ahead make it late, we'll buy it when it comes out."
Just stay consistant.

I agree completely. This is exactly the reason I don't enjoy reading the Ultimates. It follows my opinion that this comic was meant to be geared toward the younger crowd who actually thinks this sort of stuff is funny.
"Breeding ignorance." Give me a flippin' break.
Yeah, because the Hulk -- a big, gray, mindless, cannibalistic, hornball monster -- is exactly who most young people are going to choose as a role model ...
You know, rather than a tough, straight-shooting, take-no-carp-from-anyone patriot (Cap), or a rich, billionaire genius who gets all the girls (Tony), or even an uber-powerful, god-like, pacifist tree-hugger (Thor).
It's a comic. Get over it.

I wouldn't go that far. I don't think it's "geared" toward anyone. It's just bad writing.
Just do what I did. Sell them now while they are worth something and make a profit on them.
His Breeding Ignorance comment is on the comment that "this is worth 5 months"
Meaning he was against the notion that it doesn't matter how long we have to wait as long as the end result is great.
You'll notice he said that violence and etc was ok. I had to re-read what he put a couple times but he is definately saying that you shouldn't just let it come in late just because.
Selling comics earlier because they won't be worth more later? Wow, that's something I'd never thought I'd hear.

Well, if its any consolation to anyone, the Ultimates Vol. 2 shouldn't have the problems this run did. From what I understand, Marvel has stated they aren't going to release a single issue of it until they have 6 issues in the can from the creative team. This way they can guarantee that at least 6 issues will be out on a monthly basis. At least that's something.

Don't know about anyone else, but I don't read comics books to glean pearls of literary wisdom. I enjoyed the arc, don't consider myself a rube and could care less if it's written for kids, seniors or Guatemalans. .

Ever been to an MTV-style Spring Break or Mardi Gras? The Hulk would fit right in there with some of my old fraternity brothers. :) Okay, maybe not the cannibalistic part but big, odd-looking, mindless and hornball...yep, definitely what a lot of guys aspire to be. ;)

The best part of the book?......
BANNER TURDS BEING PUT INTO ISOLATION LOCKDOWN TO PREVENT THE SHAPE SHIFTING UBER ALIEN FROM REFORMING!!!!
That and the whole Thor sending the bomb away.
I think Ultimate Thor is the ONE Ultimate character I love more than the marvel counterpart.
