I heard the word cheap somewhere in there - but these look more like they're retail than "cheap"

If they were going to bother could they have used actual art like the ones that show up on the website (you know .. actual ART) instead of plain logos that show up on a small section of the t-shirt (that you could do w/ a simple custom iron on if you really wanted it)

mageknight gets faction logo t-shirts..... why can't heroclix get team ability t-shirts?

Copyright issues I imagine. Wizkids owns all the MageKnight logos. Same reason they didn't do art. Probably didn't have the rights. I'm sure they can use the names and images on the figures and boxes, and even advertising, but when it comes to doing T-Shirts, etc, that's money that's coming out of Marvel and DC's pocket.

Saetanigera
03/31/2004, 21:25
They obviously own the art on the website in some fashion though I can imagine that they have a purpose lease use on it. (which is too bad)

Wow, they jacked up prices on boosters supposedly to fund making of Heroclix but then they come out with carp like this? They're really hurting for money here.

I like most of the stuff they have. There is no price hike conspiracy because they are charging for these items seperatley and have paid for them that way as well.

I imagine if you play Mage Knight or Mech Warrior this stuff is cool.
But as comic collectors we've had t-shirts and other junk forever anyway. No point in WK doing it.

I also don't see the need to be outright rude about it either, Nighthawk.

I kinda like the stuff as it is. Maybe because I have/get all the comic t-shirts etc that I want.

Ok, everyone should know by now that Cafepress makes cheap shirts that fade quickly. There are many web comic artists who started making T-shirts and gear for their fans on Cafepress, then quickly bailed on the site after the t-shirts fade after one wash. I did the same and had the exact same results.
Do yourself a favor and do not order these products. Cafepress is a terrible vendor.

ive never bought anything from cafepress and never plan to, but a year or 2 ago i was trying to make tshirts, and went there to chack prices. now i havent checked prices on these products, but knowing that you have to have a minimum price of 15.99 per tshirt (without making a profit), i wonder what markup wizkids decided on. someone was talking a while ago on one of the set retirement threads about how once wizkids was bought by topps, they may have decided to make as much quick cash as they could, figuring its not their problem anymore and theyd be going out of business eventually anyway. its really starting to look like that now. on the other hand, if im wrong (which i sorely hope i am), i really hope we get more than just a carppy looking tote bag. o, wait, we do, and it just looks like low quality versions of (at least my) judges' shirts. and hey, not too bad on the prices, either. for cafepress and wizkids. but come on, at least something more than the generic 'heroclix' logo! id even buy super power shirts! how cool would that be to have a red shirt that has blades/claws/fangs and the description of the power? not very? ok, maybe its just me then...

Doesn't this take the 'We have no online distribution setup, so we can't possibly sell Galactus online.' excuse and throw it right out the window?

No, considering this is being done entirely through a third party source, and these items are made on demand. The only thing WizKids provided was the logos and HTML, and Cafe Press took care of the rest.

Shin-goji is incorrect.
While working on this store I purchased several of their products and tested them quite vigorously. I washed shirts for 20 or so cycles. I tried out the coffee cups and the hats. I did not have a fade problem. They may have had this problem in the past, but that is not the case now.

You also have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Also, I wouldn't do this if I wouldn't purchase the product myself, which I have, as have other WK staffers.

I hope I can eventually do more with HeroClix, though obviously there is very little we can do with other companies properties. There are, however, always possibilities of other interesting things ;).

AZS, of course you don't see the need to be rude or upset by this. You are somewhat affiliated with Wizkids.

To me, andf apparently others, this kind of stuff along with Crimson Skies, Creepy Freaks, Shadowrun etc are the reasons the booster prices are going up a dollar. Same reason a game that has unrated tournament play would retire figures.

It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I like some of their product, I don't like many of their decisions. If I chose to use sarcasm to express my dissent and dissatisfaction, that's my choice.

skyounkin
04/01/2004, 06:32
The reason the prices are going up is probably due to alot of things but also mainly inflation, this has been a market for them for 2 years and I am surprised it took them this long to up the ante a dollar...not a big deal,
And for the record

I think the stuff is cool and will probably get a hat and put my realmer id on it.....somehow.....

Dude, do you not understand that it costs Wizkids not a single penny to make these shirts and items?
Cafe Express has a set price for each item and if Wizkids wants to make any profit off of each item, then they select what they want to sell them at.
Example:
Cafe Express, say, would make a t-shirt $15.
If Wizkids wants to make any money off of it, they need to charge more than that.
Sometimes, the profit off each item isn't much, but it's not costing Wizkids anything to do this.

As for the shirts fading, etc, I've bought two shirts off the site before and they're perfectly fine and even made of the more durable cotton shirts, not the thin cheap stuff.

mrpip_pal
04/01/2004, 08:14
Cafe Press is well known for making poorly crafted products. But then, it doesn't cost Wizkids a dime to have this stuff made; since it's only printed or produced when it's ordered.

For venue supported events: who would want to win this stuff rather than LEs or boosters?

I bought a golf shirt. You know, to support the team. So if I am the only guy at Wizard World East with one on, you will know who I am... "Hey, there is that one guy that bought the shirt!" :)

Is THIS really the latest reason to whine? Can it be that we are so starved for complainable material that Logo T-Shirts are a huge issue for people. If you like it buy it, if you don't like it, there is no pressure and it isn't taking away from your clix purchases. I DO however appreciate shin-goji letting us know that the quality may be questionable. I also appreciate that Draddog is willing to stand behind the product. I already ordered the shirt because I am a dork, and I order stuff, so I will let you know how the polo turns out. If the logo tears off after one wash, I PROMISE, I will let you know.

How about a graphic of two dice showing 6's an underneath it says "Critical Hit" with a small HC logo.

What about something along the lines of Dork Tower: "My HeroClix can beat your heroclix."

And if we're really going out in left field "Have you clicked your Thing (TM) today?"

Just an FYI, I received my golf shirt from cafe press and I have to agree with Shin-goji, for the most part is is kinda shoddy. The material is a thin white cotton, the exact same consistancy of a hanes undershirt. Add a collar to that and you have what the "golf shirt" is. The logo is a typical press on. I can see it lasting through a few wash loads but not much longer. All this being said, I will still wear it and I don't really feel ripped off. I am a dork, so that is what I MUST do. I certainly wouldn't endorse this particular product though.
