Okay, for those that haven't read or know what happens in the newest ish of World's Finest (Batman/Superman), this may be a spoiler thread.
Now...how many Supergirls are there? And Power Girl, what's with her now? Does anyone know Power's origin yet? Is she still Kara that was from Krpton? Is she still from Atlantis with magic based powers and false memories of being Kara Zor-El? Is she a mutant, because I read somewhere her powers are natural to her? What's with Power Girl?
And the 'newer' Supergirl what happened to her? The post-Crisis/Zero Hour one? The one with the 90s Superman TAS appearances? Or did she not appear in comics and was only in TAS mode?
And if she still exists in comics, who is she? Whos' the new Kara Zor-El?
I'm confused. 3 blonde bombshell brickhouses of DC that all seem to me to be different people with the exact same name.

Okay I just read the title like a month ago and I can't remember what happened to Cir-el....I think she is back in the future....
TAS Supergirl....she met up with Kara Zor and they teamed up and had a good time until Spectre showed up and and showed that all of reality was going to collapse if Kara didn't fulfill her desiny and die during Crisis-Well Linda (TAS) tricked Spec and took Kara's place in the future, where she lived for a long time like 5-6 years, she had a kid with that realities Superman, they were married and then Spec showed up again and said nobel effort BUT sorry it's not gonna work....and Linda made Spec promise that she would go back and trade places with Kara so she could go and die IF Spec promised that the child between Supes and Linda lived......
So in the end Kara goes to back to die, Linda goes off in exile in shame for not being able to prevent her death. She sent Clark her skateboard from the cover of the first issue and asked that he try not to find her......the last shot they show is Lindas daughter skate boarding through space.......
Hope this is right......to the best of my recollection.....
Ok, realtime continuity:
Superman encountered a protoplasmic organism, which was named "Matrix". This organism bound with him, and reshaped herself into his image, more or less, becoming the post-crisis Supergirl.
She ws nicknamed Mae, and should shape shift, turn invisible, and had telekinetic powers which allowed her to mimic super strength, nigh invulnerability, and shoot TK blasts.
When Peter David launched the Supergirl Title, he had this proto-being merge with a human named Linda Danvers, to become a new Supergirl, who no longer had the ability to shape shift (except from "Linda" to "supergirl" forms), nor turn invisible.
Over the course of that run, she became an Earth Angel of Fire, being granted Flame Vision and Flame Wings, capable of harming the wicked, and of teleporting her anywhere she'd been or could fully visualize.
Eventually, this incarnation "fell", and Linda Danvers awoke without Supergirl's mind in her, and her powers were reduced to only "leaping higher than the tallest building", Running faster than a speeding bullet", and "bending steel with her bare hands", although it was ll still TK based. No longer able to shape shift, she donned a costume similar to the cartoon version.
She set out to rescue the trapped soul of the "Matrix" Supergirl (who had fallen), and in so doing that soul merged with a character named Twilight, so a portion of the original Supergirl lives on in that form. Linda was also power boosted, regaining her flight and TK blasts.
A dimension shifting demon then rerouted pre-crisis Kara Zor-el (nievete and physics defying mindset and all) to the current DCU, and Linda decided to take her place in pre-crisis earth, since Kara died in the crisis.
Over the course of it, she and Superman got married and had a little girl. Unfortunately, Specter had to set everything right, and Linda was forced to save Kara from an evil demon, only to knock her out and send her back to Crisis Earth to die. Her daughter was set arift in the cosmos, blissfully ignorant. ;)
This event shook Linda's faith, and caused her to give up the "Supergirl" mantle, although it is strongly hinted that she wil become some sort of hero in future.
Cir-El is lame, and gome.
She was a street woman that some creatures from the future kidnapped, spliced with Kryptonian DNA, and brainwashed into believing that she was Superman's daughter. She convinced him too, for a few months, but then she jumped into the timestream, with any luck never to be seen again.
And now there's the new Kara, who is supposedly Clark's cousin from Krypton, who's father (Clark's uncle), build a ship like his brother's, and sent Kara away in time.

or NOT in time because it took her 70ish years longer to reach earth as well as being lodged inside that big hunk of kryptonite. But theres is also much more to this story that has yet to be released... you will see.

Okay nice and confusing, just like I thought. Thanks all! ;)
Now then, where does Power Girl fit in all this? She's an entirely seperate entity now that just seemed to be Supergirl's Twin or somthing originally? Besides the redone Supergirl story and the Atlantis one, is there any other Power Girl origins?
Power Girl is a mystery.
Pre-Crisis, she was from Earth-2, the cousin of Superman from Earth-2. She was still Kara Zor-El, but instead of naming herself Supergirl, she struck out on her own and went by Power Girl. She was just like Supergirl (power and apperence-wise) except somehow PG had, well, to put it bluntly, much larger breasts. Other than that, they were totally alike. Power Girl lived during the Crisis (unlike Supergirl) and had her origon (like pretty much everyone else) altered.
In this new version, she was from Atlantis, millions of years in the past. She was the daughter of Arion, and was sent through time for some reason. The time stream affected her and gave her Kryptonian powers. Recently, she was affected by Kryptonite (I don't know what issue, I read about it in Superman/Batman issue 4, but that's not when it happened.) and she's in the JSA, just like her Pre-Crisis self. She's also a founding member of Infinity, Inc. both Pre and Post. She retained the costume and breasts. Oh, she was in the Justice League for a while, the Giffen era.
As stated before, Power Girl is a mystery. I heard somewhere that her origon will be set in stone by the end of the year in the pages of JSA. Here's hoping!
