Glad I could put a little ray of light in your otherwise bad situation. I, too, am ready to send extras for any clix that you may have lost in the fire.

Hmmm, maybe I'll have to adjust the entry fees at the next Decktech Player's Challenge. Everyone has to bring an extra clix for an entry fee as well. That should help rebuild your collection for now.

Well, it's gone. The fire actually didn't make it to the house, but it suffered massive smoke and heat damage. TV, everything, melted. I haven't been back yet, but the fire department told me the downstairs bedroom and living room (my bedroom) suffered the most damage. My clix were in that room, as was my safe. But the safe is okay. I will get that when the insurance people go through to estimate the damages. I've already found an apartment and will be moving in next week. Family and friends have offered to donate furniture and dishes to help furnish the apartment. Good news is, it's right next to my friend Kelly's house, thus how I found it. If you'd like to help, PM me and I'll give you my work address because, well, I don't have an address to ship to right now. Thank you all again for your concern and words of comfort

My last name is German. I traced my Family tree a long way's back and found out that my ancestors came from some where in Germany. I have the name of the valley at home but can't remember it off the top of my head.

Also I took a trip too Spain in high school and one of our stops was in Germany. Most would be surprised at how hospitable those guys at the airport gates with Machine guns can be. Well, the insurance reps just got done reviewing the damage of my house. Aparently, the 3 tackle boxes in my bedroom were melted. Most figures are now melted inside it as well. Aparently, if you cannot determine the contents of a box, tackle box, whichever, or provide proof of purchase, reciets or photos, they cannot be claimed by the insurance company. So take pictures of your clix collection everyone, if anything happens to them, the spawns of satan, I mean, the insurance reps, need proof. The tackle boxes were melted into my bedroom carpet, the bed had burn holes and the walls covered with smoke damage. The living room and kitchen were much the same. The insurance company surveyed the damage and now have to determine from the numerous pictures they took what was damaged and what can be "salvaged." Meaning if it isn't completely broke or destroyed, you ain't getting #### from us. So yeah, that's where the situation stands now.

Well, I usually only post while I'm at work, so there are usually no weekend posts from me. I'm just too busy otherwise.

As for what Sandra should do in order to make her claim go more smoothly...there's not much she can do now. I do not handle Home Owner's claims, but from my time in a field office that had both Home Owner's and Auto I did get a little knowledge of the area.

Without knowing the specifics of her policy (or even which Insurance Company she is with), I can only say that she's on the short end of the stick. Most policies will need documentation of items claimed and replacement value, if applicable. The policy will also likely have a provision that divides out policy limits: one limit will be for the structure and the other will be for contents.

Her contents limits may very well be eaten up quickly taking care of the neccessities: clothing, furniture, appliances... Whatever is left can be used for other items as they are covered under her policy. I also imagine that she has a deductible that will apply. That's going to be $$ coming right out of her pocket, so what money she is getting will likely need to be used to pay for the more important items.

In all, there's not a lot someone can do AFTER the fact. That's why it's improtant for people with hobbies such as ours to have documentation of our collection. This will help to make a claim go smoothly as there will be full documentation should the need arise. Photos/video and a hard copy list of a collection only takes a short time to complete.

As always, check with your Insurance Agent as to what type of documentation may be needed should a claim arise and confirm what type of language your policy contains. Some will give Actual Cash Value, some will give Replacement Cost. You may also want to determine if you need an amendment to your policy to cover these items.

For those purposes you only need to document what you have (I would suggest a database and photo evidence of the cases of figures. I have them in clear cases with labels two to a slot (a bit less with CM Hulk and the Sentry and such), so it is easy to record.

If and when you get to the point of having to claim them, you can get replacement costs based off of trade mags (Scrye, Inquest, Wizard) at the time of the claim. Again, you really need to follow up with yopur agent as different companies require different documentation for certain items.

In the case of getting price quotes, they asked for 2 sources. I gave them Scyre and Inquest quotes on complete sets and the LE's I had. Upon reviewing it...they quickly tried to back out of covering 'plastic figurines' as collectables. Saying that they were not collectables and weren't covered in my policy. So daddy is going to look into it and rip them a new one. As far as the deductable goes, they are talking 5% of the total or something like that? In the case of getting price quotes, they asked for 2 sources. I gave them Scyre and Inquest quotes on complete sets and the LE's I had. Upon reviewing it...they quickly tried to back out of covering 'plastic figurines' as collectables. Saying that they were not collectables and weren't covered in my policy.

What BS. Don't the booster boxes say collectable minitures game on it? If so, show that to them and tell them to kiss (not an actual offer of course) your arse.

On a better note, family and friends have donated tons of furniture, tv, dishes, and people here have been more than generous. Our local venue even made a $20 entry fee to pitch towards a case of unleashed for me. It's amazing how people pull together. Needless to say, dupes were divided among everyone and people were genuinely happy with it. So that means less money spent on furniture and necessities can go towards clothes!...and clix too.
