With all the comic movies coming out lately, i'm surprised that a Green Lantern movie has not even been thought about. I think that they should begin making one, for he is a pretty popular guy. Who else in here thinks that they should make a GL movie?? It would be one hell of a ride.

i have a script in deveopement that is simular to the Smallville theme. unfortunatly it will have to wait for another year or two until I graduate from film school. next summer I am going to work with my cousin who was the executive producer behind kids in the hall. when I get some work experience and there hasn't already been made I will pitch it to WB. Would you prefer Hal, Kyle or John? I was thinking Hal. I want to stick along the original story line. I dont want to create another "birds of prey" fiasco.

i agree with that. i would also prefer hal, just to stick with the opening and not to get to far from the opening. also kyle wasn't until later and john was after hal. so it is best to start from the beginning.
kinda off topic but, kids in the hall was freaking hilarious.

Yes kids in the hall was freaking hilarious.
I was toying with the idea of Allen Scott and his origins, but I thought it was a little to cheesy for todays standards. And if I were to change the story ever fan would scream at me for ruining the intergrety of the character. I am still debating what villian I want to introduce to the show. I want to keep it simple at first with him just stopping thugs and criminals. Maybe stopping terrorist to help gain an American audience. (No insult intended, look at all the shows that came out after 911 about terrorism) I think I will introduce a villian that is brilliant yet can do some serious damage. Maybe The Shade. Whom can later help out against a greater threat. Let me know what you guy think. I am going to need your input. I plan on using tis idea as my final project for the bulk of my final grade.

I hate to say it, because it's gonna make the purests go ape-####, but I'd go with Jon if I were you. Here's why...
1. For the most part, DC comic movies are still considered "kid-friendly." Now, I know that's kinda generalizing, but it's true for most comic movies in general, hence the action figures. Now, unless this is going to be a movie for just comic fans, which will make zero people happy and not much more box office, kids don't know who Hal is. They only know two human GL's... Jon, and to a lesser extent, Kyle. But Kyle hasn't shown up in a long time, and for that matter, the last time we saw Hal on screen since 1991 was in a Duck Dodgers episode.
2. You could cast the hell out of Jon. I won't even go into it here, but you can let your mind go nuts.
3. To take what has become the best known black superhero and make him a white guy for the movie will draw down the ire of god-knows how many people, not to mention that it would really set DC back as a company. They have a chance to make up for Black Vulcan, Samurai, and Apache Chief in one shot with a Green Lantern flick, and they should take it. DC's track record with minorities is really bad (behold Nu'bia) and this could get them into the mainstream conscious again.
That's why I say Jon. Not my favorite Green Lantern, but then again, I'm not a kid.
Personally, I'd rather have a Green Arrow flick. :cheeky:

Oh, and Jon was a soldier...
Perfect for your terrorist idea. Still, you have to put him in space somehow. High-tech terrorist? Villain? I'd go with Vandal Savage.

I hope that they don't make a GL movie. Every superhero the WB turns to a movie turns to total carp. Look at Batman, Catwoman, and the upcoming Superman fiasco. Terrible movies, all of them. I think they should keep GL confined to a TV show. However there is a Justice League movie in the universe somewhere that has Guy Gardner as Green Lantern. It's available for download. I suggest looking for it.
I'd like a GL movie. Hal, definetly. I never liked John except as a supporting charecter, and Kyle is too new.
I think if there was a villain, it would have to be Sinestro. Sure, he's really powerful and uses the "Evil Twin" thing that is normally reserved for at least the second movie. But Sinestro is the classic GL enemy. Who are you going to use instead, Hector Hammond? The Weaponeers of Qward? God forbid, Tattooed Man? Sinestro has his time in Super Friends, Justice League, and even Static Shock. He's the best known Green Lantern villain.
It must be Hal. Sure, DC movies gear toward kids, but it's time they knew the truth. The better charecter was swept aside, replaced by the need for a multi-ethnic crew. Now, it is perfectly respectable that they need a black guy in JL. But did they have to have it be John Stewert? Couldn't Vixen or Black Lightning, or even Bloodwynd? If it was Vixen, they could remove Hawkgirl and keep the multi-ethnicity and Hal Jordon.
Now, I was thinking about this. If they have a GL movie, the final sequence is that Sinestro finally bests Hal, and ties him up with yellow rope. He then lowers him into the giant lantern on Oa, ready to destroy him by using the lantern itself. The Guardians and all the other Lanterns are incapacitated or not there. Hal remembers Kilowog's words... "...with enough willpower, you can accomplish anything..." Hal realizes what he can do, and he says the oath, and concentrates. Nothing. He says it again. Nothing. Other Lanterns from other sectors also hang in the Lantern, and hear him. They begin to chant the oath. Soon, all Lanterns chant it, Hal being loudest. It's like the "I do believe in fairies!" scene in the new "Peter Pan" movie! Finally, Hal manages to use the ring to make himself in the form where he is made of the energy, and since anything yellow goes right through the energy, the ropes fall off. Hal then takes control of the entire lantern, and uses it to obliterate Sinestro and forever condemn him to the antimatter universe of Qward.
The sequal will have Star Sapphire, then if there is a third one, the Weaponeers of Qward. The fourth one... Hector Hammond. After that, the franchise is dead.

Before I launch into a rant, let me say...
No offense, zaurial. I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but I do think that a few of your points have to be spoken on, and I hope this won't start a thing in here.
Okay, now that the disclaimer is done, movies like the one you are proposing are the reason that there hasn't been a decent DC movie in forever. It's kinda cheesed, and suffers from the same problematic writing that prompted some genius to kill off the Joker in Batman 1.
Also, your idea predicates itself on the notion that kids want to be told the truth. I agree that Hal IS Green Lantern, but 10 year olds don't know that, and to give them anything less than what they expect is to tank the movie's chances before it even gets going.
Plus, it was stated that he was going to go for a more Earth-based story, which would mean that I wouldn't expect to see Kilowag and the Corp until the second one, or at least the end of the first. And Hal, for all his glory, absolutely lacked any dimension in an Earth-based role for years. It took Green Arrow to wake him up to the fact that he didn't know much about the injustice on his own planet. For that matter, Jade is more at home on Earth than Hal Jordan! Once again, this is where Jon is king. As a cosmic defender, he was mediocre at best, but as an Earth defender, he was more dedicated than any of the others (including Alan Scott).
The multi-ethnic thing on Justice League is a moot point. It's done, and there is nothing we can do about it. Sure, they could have replaced GL with another Ethnic charcater, but then people would complain about the fact that they used an obscure character on the show. Frankly, I'm still shocked they finally got around to using Martian Manhunter, even if they never call him that. It only took him 30 years to get on screen, after all.
The reason that all the Marvel movies are doing so good, is that beneath all the powers, there is a point of realism in them. The X-Men have powers, sure, but they also have cars to get around. It's little things like that that can make or break a good comic movie. Marvel has it figured out, and now so do the Indy movies for the most part (Hellboy definitely figured it out). DC hasn't got it together yet, but they're getting there. WB did the Matrix, so we know that they're not adversed to some strange takes on sci-fi flicks, why should all their comic flicks be cheesy?
In Green Lantern, you have the ability to make the first movie very urban and streetwise (and make up for the attempt at it in Steel), and then switch to some real space-opera stuff. Will it get done? Probably not. But if we're debating the merits of a project here, I'd much rather see Jon as a soldier gifted with the ability to go above and beyond the call of duty, than to see Hal flying around space with some goofy alien in a force bubble.
Green Lantern has always been an under-rated character to the un-comic-educated, but if you take him and put a human spin on him, you have the ability to make him a god to those same people. After that, you can tell them about Hal, first you have to get them in the theater.
Personally, I'd pitch the Green Lantern Corps as a series following the release of the movie, and do the whole "Hal goes nucking futz thing" in there. Plus, in that scenario, you can make Hal the main character.
If you want to write a pure fantasy flick, I suggest you start work on the Aquaman script. If you want pure Space-Opera, I suggest the Legion (which I'd actually KILL to see). But for his idea of GL, it can only be Jon.
i myself would like to see kyle. but john (NOT jon, read the comics!) is the more popular one right now, being in the cartoon and all, and of course, you could always have other gl's on the show. and will smith would be a perfect john stewart.

Will Smith would be good, but I'd rather see someone a bit less funny. Maybe the guy who played the Drum Major in Drumline. Then again, Will was all business in Enemy of the State, so......

Sam Jackson could play the hell out of John, but he's a little old for an origin story, maybe. Still, it could work, and he's the kind of guy that can play an intense semi-thriller version of GL, like the thread had stated it was looking for earlier.
For John? hmm... how about Michael Jai White?
He's the guy who played spawn.
I think he's got the look, and he can play a military part well.
Plus, he's be cheaper than Samuel Jackson or Wesley Snipes
