View Full Version : The Florida/Georgia Thread

I saw the success of a community like the Filipino thread and just wondered if the Floorida and Georgia natives wanted to get together and chat in a similar way. If nobody's interested, that's cool, but I wanted to throw the idea out.

I've played Clix at Pop Comics & Games here in Sarasota, as well as Coliseum of Comics up in Orlando. I'm pretty much retired from Clix now, but I keep in touch with my fellow HCers and if people are looking to hook up for games, perhaps I can help.

Well, I'd happily join in, but since I'll be a published author soon, I can't really be "seen" associating with the common riff-raff.

At first glance I misread your title as "The Florida/George" thread and thought this was another political thread about to get deleted..

Whatever, I don't follow sports. but if you must know, i was born and raised in Gainesville. As a matter of fact, i was born in Shands, on UF soil. So for all intensive purposes, i was BORN a Gator. I still come to G'ville all the time, but since I've moved back to the US Tallahassee has been a better vantage point for me to get to auditions and stuff.

If it pleases the court....

GOOOO GATORS!!!!!!

Bless you son, bless you. I used to live in Gatorwood apartments and also on 39th and whatever the N-S street is that goes by UF. Got my bachelor's in 1989 and Masters in 1991, haven't been back since 1996 or so.

Wish I could come to FL and play with some of you but I'm in Hoosierland now

I'm a rare breed. I'm a NATURAL BORN FLORIDIAN. lol From Ft Lauderdale originally and have lived all over the state (Ft Lauderdale, Miami, Homestead before "Andrew", Kissimmee, Orlando, and Pensacola) and nowhere else. lol I'm in Kissimmee now.

Hey Masada, I've gamed at CoC in Orlando too.

Doctorfate, I used to have to go to Shands all of the time for testing and all for my Crohn's. Very familiar with that area as well.

I'm in South FL, but I rarely have time to play. Still if anyone wants to get a game going post, you never know.

I was in intensive care up in Shands about six months ago. Great hospital with a great staff. If I have to get this lung transplant, that's where it'll be done.

Still believing for a miracle, though.

I'm in Indianapolis and know Butler U very well. Great school, expensive though.

I was in G'ville during the murders but lived on 39th when all that happened. That was a very nervous time, used to walk into my apt carrying a baseball bat. Are the victims names still painted on the mural on Archer Road?

Same here! We should recieve some sort of government stipent for having to deal with these millions of transplants and tourists!

Let's all do the Tourist Mantra: Welcome to Orlando, now since we only have a 2 lane interstate, please remember....LEFT LANE FAST, RIGHT LANE SLOW! Enjoy the theme parks.

I should move to Ocala and open a bait shop.

Hey gator, i was there too! man, that was crazy. I lived in French Quarter apts on archer. It was weird though, did you notice how NICE everyone was to each other at that time? You'd think it would be the opposite, but you'd meet a total stranger and be like "Hey, take care of yourself out there".

I love FL by the way, I don't think i'd live anywhere else. If anyone ever has the itch to play and comes to tampa for a tournament, let me know. I like meeting people and doing stuff. I like to do all kinds of stuff too, esp skate. But I still haven't met many gamers who like to skate.

When I played star wars ccg heavily, all the good FL players got to be good friends, we'd go play mini golf and go to movies and eats and stuff after big tournaments, like state champs and stuff. We still get together and play like 3 times a year. It's really fun. That's one of the best thing abuot playing tournaments is making friends and stuff.

Ah, but once you've lived here for 15 years, you become a native. I've been down here for 26 now, so it looks like I'm trapped. :)

Where does everyone play? I'm pretty proud of POP Comics and Games, it's a bright, clean store with good staff on hand and lots of discounts. A great place to game. If you're ever in SRQ, check it out. They're on 41.

You have to know the sense of humor some of these guys have. We've become a pretty good connection of friends and sometimes their humor is a little different from what you'd expect. They're all decent folks, though. Come up and play! Get to know em, they're cool.

You probably won't see me there. I have pretty much retired from playing leagues and tournaments since being in intensive care last year. Gotta concentrate on getting well.
If you see a guy wheeling an oxygen tank up to the checkout with a pile of comics, you'll know it's Masada making his monthly shopping trip, though. :)

i'm sure the game we saw was a one time thing. not indicative of how everything goes on there now.
but one kid who was playing was new, and the other kid was really taking advantage of him.
they were playing on one of the dc maps (the one with the two buildings with the strip of grass down the middle.)
they were in the office part of the map.
the new kid wanted to shoot the other guy, but his line of site traveled thru that round desk.
the vet player stops him and says, "you can't shoot me thru that, it's blocking terrain."
so the new kid ends up not taking what would have been a very easy shot.
next turn the vet player flies a robin up and drops him in the square of the desk the new kid was trying to shoot thru.
when the new kid asks how he can do that, vet player replies (and this is still an inside joke for the guys i play with)
"oh thats elevated indoor terrain. you can't shoot thru it, but robin has leap climb"
he continued to do stuff like that thru the whole game.... and other games we've seen, people have just not been very nice.

i'm not knocking pops.... but i don't think we'll play there.

Funny thing happened today...

So I'm from Gainesville, but i live in Tallahassee right now. My Best Friend and I are both recently from UF, but he's in grad school here at FSU.

well today, I realized that i needed to do laundry, and all that was clean was my bright orange and blue Gator shirt. Anf for some reason Carlton decided to wear his Garnet and Gold FSU Freak shirt.

needless to say, EVERYWHERE we went, people decided to comment on the fact that we were wearing those shirts yet walking together and not fighing, lol. it was very odd. Being in Japan for two years, I had forgotten that this part of the state is like watching Varsity Blues OVER and OVER and OVER....

Luckily he spilt #### all over it at lunch, so we had to come home to change. lol
