I just got back from the punisher and after reading the punisher sucked review here is my take.
First off anyone who goes to see this should remeber this is the punisher movie i.e. anaction comic book flick, if you are looking for an oscar level film why on earth would you go to any action flick? There has been a shortage on good action films and punisher was a good refreshing look at one!
2nd as always some changes were made from the comic to film, NONE of the changes were in anyway so crucial that it wasnt true to the character, So I didnt mind the minor chages like locations and who was his family and how did they die.
3rd and this surprised me 90% of the action in this film was realistic and not over the top(only the fight with the russian was over the top but still fun) Thomas Jane did great on portraying a professional in the way he used his weapons and his tactics. In fact the Frank castle in this movie I liked a little better than the comic version because he was extreamly intilligent in the areas of tactics, warfare and anti terrorist techniques and he made full use of those abilites rather than just showing up and shooting everything in site.
Admitidly there was some cheesy moments like the dramatic music that was pointed out on another thread but not so much that it dumbed down the movie.
If you are a fan of the action films and are looking for a good one you could appreciate this film. If you go with a fun attitude you will like this film, If you expect it to be forest gump thats your own fault.
In closing we see enough films and serise that glorify what it is to be in the mob or a powerfull gang leader and such, I say more power to Punisher to show those low lifes that you will one day piss off the wrong guy, Now if only frank could go after the fat A@# Sopranos that would make my day!
