Hey, there's the next 'vs' battle for ya': Sigmund vs. "Beanie and Cecil".
Frankly, I always thought the assorted Kroft works were pretty terrifying for kids. There are just some outrageously trippy creatures in their shows.
Scary rumour I saw on Fox News (or one of those channels) a month or so ago: they're thinking of making a comeback with H.R. Pufnstuff including *shudder* a movie.
Hmm...anyone else picturing the havoc that could ensue though if Barney and Elmo were dropped into "Kroft" land? :)

Or...Beany and Cecil of Kroft land vs. B'nee and C'cil of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. ;)

I must say I never saw the show, but I saw the ads on TV Land. It was one of those moments, when words cannot express the utter confusion/horror of what I was witnessing.
Like the first time I was at a friends house, and their baby was watching Teletubbies. Scariest thing I've ever seen, that babies head in the sun.

I haven't watched TV Land since they did away with Get Smart. Is it back on again (this was back when it was still part of Nickelodeon)
The sad thing is...
i'm right there with you. Only with Pete's Wicked.
It kinda makes you WANT to watch.
Weird stuff they did. What I found to be REALLY Dangerous was to CONTINUE Watching...what's up with that weird Lidsville show?!?
Ah, the dangers of having a TV card in your computer late at nite with "adult beverages"...

70's live action kiddie shows are like a car wreck. You just can't look away, no matter how bad it gets. They've got those catchy theme songs too. I havn't seen them for decades, but I still remember the words to almost all of them.

WOW!
I loved those shows as a kid!
PuffNStuff
Sigmund & the Sea Monsters
Lidsville
Land of the Lost
didnt like Dyna-Girl though
Most of you must not be old enough to remember how popular those shows were back then. Heck, at the time, HR PuffNStuff was so popular it's characters were the ones walking around 6 Flags instead of the Looney Tunes. Granted, watching them once you get over the age of 10 isnt that cool. But WAYYYY back then they were the in-thing.

I thought it was the Bannana Splits that were at the Six Flags parks. They're even shown there during the theme song.

For KIDS!!!???!!!
I'm currently holed up in a cardboard box, shivering with absolute fear!!!! My only solace is the twelve empty Bass Ale bottles that I've gathered into a semi-circular ziggurat around myself. I only pray that the power of Bass will deflect the Kroft voodoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suspect that most of the problems originated in those bottles, and not on the TV. The Kroft Superstars are just making it worse. At least it's not the Bugaloos! You'd be running through the streets screaming at this point if that was on I suspect.

I watched them all as a kid.
You forgot: (and I'm drawing blanks on the names of the shows)
1) The one where the young boy and his young female babysitter fly around in a flying saucer with the 2 robots/humanoids.
2) The one where 4-6 people are shrunk down by a mad scientist and his dwarf assistant on an isolated island.
3) The one with the two goofy techs that launched into space by accident and can't get home. Bob Denver (Gilligan fame) is the guy that launced them when his "Skipper-esque" partner said 'lunch' and Denver hit 'launch.'
And I agree with a few in this Thread:
These shows were kind of freaky in a scary way fro kids. I was always freaked out watching these shows.

The AMA will probably have my head for saying this, but...
All I can think of is the next time a patient comes in with DT's it would be fascinating to leave a Kroft show playing on a nearby television. :)
(And, yes, that's meant as a very tongue-in-cheek joke for all the crusading types out there)
Ah, Freddy Flute, Witchie-poo, and good ol' Pufnstuf. I remember that from my childhood. I didn't know it was being replayed.
I remember Bigfoot and Wildboy "Byoba!", mighty Isis, and the live action SHAZAM!
2. Land of the Giants, I think. I don't remember the rest.

The Lost Saucer! One of the robots was Gomer Pyle.

The Far Out Spacenuts!
There were tons of them back then. Most were from Sid and Marty Kroft, but not all. This list barely scratches the surface.
Thanks for the info, Wyldstaar!
I could remember the shows, but for the life of me not their titles.
And, JayThor:
The live action Shazam! show is on TV Land every Saturday night (Sunday morning) at 1:30 AM.

I watched an episode of Shazam! right before my cable company dumped TV Land. Man was that awfull! Captain Marvel had nothing better to do than stop Danny Bonaduchi from vandalizing the high school science lab. While he was there, Cap should have cooked up a formula that would do a better job of covering up that thick southern accent.

Does anybody else remember Space Giants? Goldar, Silvar, robots and mosters, bad dubbing, bad special effects. As a kid I loved it, but for the life of me I can't remember too much about what happened in the episodes.

Mr. Show did a great spoof of the Sid and Marty Kroft stuff. Their version was called "The Altered State of Drugachusetts". A very funny comment on just what Sid & Marty were really showing kids. Check it out.

Don't you know that Danny Bonaduchi is one of the most devious and powerful super villains of all time?????? Oh the misery that could befall the Earth if ever he lays his hands on a fully stocked high school science lab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank goodness for Captain Marvel and his advisory council of cartoon elders!!!!!!!! y'all.

Does anyone remember Jason of Star Command? It was a Star Wars knock-off that was tacked onto the Shazam!/Isis show. Jason (Han Solo) flew around in Starfire I (Millenium Falcon). He had a robot buddy (R2-D2) that he kept on his belt. It was really just a little wind-up toy.
Of all the live action 70's shows, Land of the Lost was the best. I know it was certainly the one that lasted the longest. Most of those shows never lasted more than a season or two, but Land of the Lost was on for years.

Not only was Jason a complete knockoff of Star Wars, it was a knockoff of Star Trek, as James Doohan was the engineer on that show. Also, the young African American woman (I think she was a princess) had posed in Playboy. Once that information leaked out, the show was doomed.
Thank gawd... ;)

Yeah most of those Krofft shows are painful to view again as an adult, but I can still stomach watching Electra Woman & Dyna Girl :knockedou
Maybe stomach is the wrong organ to reference . . . .

Tamara Dobson is her name. She played Samantha on Jason of Star Command.
Sadly, I remember Sigmund, Pufnstuf, Lidsville, Isis, Electra Woman, Shazam!, Jason, and all those other brain-rotting, live-action, Saturday morning shows in the late 60s and throughout the 70s. I was growing up then.
Man, those shows were horrendous...

How can you go wrong with the lyrics to HR Puffinstuff?
HR Puffinstuff
Who's your friend when things get rough?
HR Puffinstuff...
You can't do a little 'cause you can't do enough.
Something that's always amazed me is how sexless Electrowoman and Dynagirl managed to look in spandex. Even at age twelve, I remember being irritated about how those *&%$# capes always seemed to obscure any view of their, um, posterity, so to speak.
Electrowoman (can't remember the actress' name) is still visible on the daytime soaps.

Electra-Woman was played by Dedra Hall. What's really odd is that she was already on Days of Our Lives when she played Electra-Woman. That was the only soap my mom watched when I was a kid.
As for James Doohan being on Jason of Star Command, I'll take your word for it. I didn't watch Star Trek at that age, so I wouldn't have made the connection. These days I remember almost nothing of any of Kroft shows. The titles, basic overall idea, and the theme songs. Nothing much else. From the few re-runs I've seen as an adult, I suspect that's for the best.
