My wife and I are expecting out first child!!!!!!!

I'm out of my mind with excitement! We are a bit old to have our first child, but for so long we were so dedicated to our careers that it was impossible. Regardless, the time was neigh and we did it! Unless you have a child you can't imagine the fear and joy I'm experiencing right now. (it would also explain why, on a Friday night I'm posting here instead of having some fun out on the town).

I'd appreciate any advise from you fathers out there... from what to expect to how to deal with a hormonal basket-case wife. ;)

Holy carp! I thought you were at least a great-grandparent by now!

In all seriousness, though: Congratulations!!!!

My first born just turned 4 months; you can't even imagine how cool this whole trip is going to be! My wife was sick for the first 16 weeks-deathly sick-and we had a beautiful baby girl.

Patience, patience, and then try some patience! Don't get mad at your wife: her hormones are going to be all out of whack. Go to her appointments with her, and make sure you get pictures of the ultrasounds. Feel her belly a lot-when your baby kicks it's an amazing experience.

Your whole life is going to change, and it's the coolest thing that will ever have happened to you IMO; it was for me!

Congrats, and keep us posted!

Good luck. My wife and I are expecting our first ANY DAY (maybe even any hour now), so I can relate the excitement and nervousness.

I'll add my hearty congratulations as well and relate a tale. I have a friend who is about a decade older than me at 44. He plays clix with his kids regularly and recently faced the following quandry. He took out a smart hulk from his son's team. His son (Age: 8) sniffled a little and said "You took out my smart hulk..." Now my poor friend was left with the following thoughts...

"OMG! I took out Smart Hulk!!!"

"OMG! I just made my kid cry!" :(

I understand it's an awesome and alternately frustrating time ahead of you. In the end though, it's really just Awesome.

Congratulations to you and the missus GA!!

GA,

My sincerest congratulations! Yeah, it's a cliche thing to say, but honestly anything else seems overly trite and complicated. Really there's no better way to put it then: best wishes to you and your wife.

Oh, and get to know the obstetrician - he/she will be one of your greatest friends for the next year and a half or so. :)

(P.S.: Just remember that McNider would make a great middle name, but Ibis, eh, maybe not so much ;) ).

CONGRATS!!!

You should see if WizKids will send you Galactus for the baby shower!!! that way you can just sell him in 18 years for tuition, heh. Unless one of the Galactus-less folk on this site, just happen to be the Dean of Admissions at Harvard by then....

;)

Ibis isn't so bad... Okay, yes it is!

How about Marv? or Vel? or CAPTAIN MARVEL!!! Boy or girl I think it works well!

HA! I'm glad you guys don't know my wife's e-mail. I could be in serious trouble! :cheeky:

There are other comic names... Logan?... Nah, though there have been Realmsers and comic fans that have named their child after Wolverine... I don't think I'll join the group.
How about Clark? or Bruce? or Dianna??? Hmmm, those names sound so much more... prestigious. ;)

Which was kind aweird because 2 of his kids were named Logan and Chase. There are also Logan and Chase Streets here in Milwaukee. And Logan of course is also Wolverine's name.

CONGRATS YOU GUYS!!!
My wife and I had out first born two weeks ago a day shy of her due date. Let me tell you that whatever you expenctant fathers think you are feeling now, is NOTHING!
You have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA, how much you are going to love that child once you meet him or her. It is the MOST amazing experience I have ever been through in my life, hands down. It is certainly a big change, but if your marital relationship is solid it should be a breeze. Like RK said, make sure she has a good OB doctor.

Have lots of patience with the wife, because she may get cranky and picky about everything. Tell her no matter what that she still looks great, and be helpful around the house. Don't let her carry heavy stuff, etc. Make sure she stays on her left side to sleep and rest as that is the way the baby gets the most oxygen. Also make sure she drinks LOTS OF WATER (At least 8 glasses a day) to keep up her amniotic fluid.

Let me tell you now, that as highbrow as you seem sometimes GA, you will get over it that real quickly with a child. I said I would never EVER change a poopy diaper in my life. YEAH RIGHT!!! Who was I kiddin! The first day I was changing diapers left and right. Once you meet your progeny, you don't care if they spit up all kinds of #### on you, you are just happy to be a part of it all!!! Just writing this makes me emotional to think of the love I have for my child. Just you wait and see.

I HOPE THUS WHOLE EXPERIENCE IS AS MUCH OF A BLESSING FOR YOU (and Webhead) AS IT HAS BEEN FOR ME. I WISH YOU GUYS THE BEST!

There is a lot more stuff to talk about (things to buy, books to get, things to do, etc.), but hopefully this thread will become something of a fatherly advice thing. Again congrats to you guys!

Hey, when did this thread pop up? And here I thought Id get a personally PM of notice since GA and I are such OLD buddies.......speaking of old, I figured you to be at least 60 with how you talk around here and how grumpy you sound. :)

Seriously, CONGRATS on the first born. Billy is a nice name you know......though Drax is an even better one for him I think. Stronger, more POWERFUL name than Bill, anyday of the week. :)

While I don't know u personally, I wish u congrats. My wife and I adopted our daughter so I can't offer any pregnancy advice. However, I can tell u being a father is the greatest feeling in the world. As far as a comic related name, how about....Grayson(cool, and unique) or Xavier or Remy or Connor( I intend to name my first son Connor) Just some suggestions. Again, congrats and good luck
