This is an actual sign that can be purchased:

WARNING

Under Kentucky law, a farm animal activity sponsor, farm animal professional, or other person does not have the duty to eliminate all risks of injury of paticipation in farm animal activities. There are inherent risks of injury that you voluntarily accept if you participate in farm animal activities.

(No farm animals were harmed in the construction of this thread.)

I can see that, but, the sign is very braod and open, and thus easy for manipulation by a lawyer to benefit his/her client. It probably comes to protect the farmer from trespassers from going on their land and getting mauled by a bull or some farm animal, and then the trespasser turns around and sues the farmer. BUT I would love to know the origin of said law.

I imagine it got its start from things like trailrides. Someone goes to ride a horse for a day or goes to pet a cow; one injury later the poor farmer is looking at a lawsuit. I know here in Colorado we have similar situations and resultant laws (not that anything like that really protects the farmer if someone wants to sue - no more than those old permission slips our parents used to sign for us back in grade school).
