This makes no sense. Critical Mass isn't going to be tourney legal? Where is the logic in this?

Wow, so it looks like they will retire Galactus and the convention LEs before the convention season even ends!
My mistake, an errant tag made Critical Mass not visible in the list. It's been fixed.

Well...I'm glad Clobbering Time is still legal. It looks like everything except some of the original IC figs are still tourney legal...

Typo's been fixed, and my pseudo-alarmist Sky-is-Falling Critical Mass is banned thread has also been fixed. It felt good to be obnoxious for a minute.

good to hear clobberin' time is sitll good, would hate to see the skrulls (although I expect the Chitauri/Skrulls, as they even say people call them Skrulls, will come with that TA) and ff go the way of the dodo.
Couldn't play without my vet thor or vet doom and doombots.
I thought Xplosion got retired too since it was in Universe, guess that's good news

Funny, last I checked. The post on the WK site still had the Critical Mass set missing from the list. People are gonna panic in outrage with this confusion.

the only problem is that the next set after Ultimates automatically retires Clobbering Time (just like it works in Magic):ermm:

Ouch, I know we don't speak _that_ highly of Critty Mass but this was rather unexpected.
TB - it has about 5 high use figs, c'mon...

It's not listed on the site it is linking to http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/products.asp?cid=38843 still says "...the following sets will be tournament legal in Marvel HeroClix Tournaments: Universe, Clobberin' Time, Xplosion, and Ulitimates."

I had been under the impression that the release of Ultimates would retire Clobberin' Time.
Have Wizkids reconsidered the retirement issue? Correct me if I misunderstood, but didn't the original press release state that the most recent base set (Universe) and the last three expansions (Ultimates, Critical Mass and X-Plosion) would be tourney legal.
This would mean that the most recent base set and the last FOUR expansons will be tounament legal.
Is this a change of policy, or just a typo, like excluding Critical Mass from the original post above?

Magister has stated on the WizKids Judges Forum that - 1) there wouldn't be a retirement with the release of Ultimates, and 2) there wouldn't be another retirement this summer.

My take on this is that they realized that if they did retire Clobberin' Time that all the F4 team members would retired; except for Alicia Masters. Of course, I can't forget their arch enemy Dr. Doom.
It appears we finally have a release date for Ultimates too- June 30th. After all sets become tournament legal 2 weeks after their release date and the press release gives July 14th as the date that Ultimates is tournament legal. I was hoping for a sooner date though. That means people going to WWE will be able to get their hands on Ultimates stuff over a month before the rest of us. Pretty much the entire list should be known after the pre-release too. That's kind of early to give the set away. I hope we at least get some Ultimates for our Australian nationals. So any bets on who the first sneak peek will be? I hope it's Mister Sinister. Or they might go with one of the Morlocks or Serpent Society to start with.
Actually I am truly enjoying the lack of sneak peeks. I have felt that the last couple of sets really held no surprises for me. I know I held back a lot on Unleashed and I truly enjoyed buying boosters, at least the first day, didn't see too much variety in the packaging.....anyways I like the surprise and not opening my first booster of a new set and already saying, DEO eh, R Big Barda eh, V Cyborg cool, HDC eh. I didn't even have to look through the dials, I already knew what they were and I had never held the piece before.

103 Points of Anti-Stealthing, Batman Smacking, Goodness!!!
I am NOT a fan of Ultimates (the comics) and I hate that they used the Ultimate Rhino as the sculpt for the REV, but the new Ultimates TA is really looking interesting.
I can hardly wait for the sneak peak. I'm hoping for a member of the Serpent Society, but will happy as long as it isn't one of the Characters that are already confirmed (Spidey, Cap, Ghost Rider, Doc Ock, Wolverine, Punisher).

Well, from how it's been worded, apparently the first three expensions, because they are from Infinity Challenge, are given some sort of weird sanctuary from retirement... at least, that's how it seems to be worded. I guess this means that IF we get four booster sets after Universe, then Ultimates would go... bah, I dunno, WizKids is retarded.

Why include Xplosion figs in Universe, if Universe won't be retired???

Because Xplosion is sold out, and they want new players to get a chance to get some of the better figs from the set.

I'm really confused by the confusion.
The set retirement will go in order of being released. Infinity Challenge is the first set that will be retired.
Down the line (after Summer?) it will be Clobberin' Times turn.
End of this year - maybe next year - Xplosion will be next.
When a "Universe" set appears for DC, Hypertime will then be retired.
Clobberin Time was sold out a long time ago - so there are no more characters being made. When WK decided to do the Universe thing, they decided to incorporate Infinity Challenge and their next available set - which fell to Xplosion.
CT molds were probably already destroyed so XP was all that was left.
Sold Out and Retirement are two entirely different things. Sold Out means you can't go to a store and buy anymore of them. Retirement means you can't use those figures in a WK sanctioned tournaments (at least ones that don't allow Retired figs).
Retirement doesn't issue in a new set - a new set issues in retirement. Remember, Universe is for new players. These players cannot buy IC, CT, of XP. Universe allows them to get some of the figs that were released in the IC and XP set.
When you are trying to figure stuff out, you have to start at the beginning and work forward - not at the end and go backwards.

Actualy, Sold Out means that retailers can't order them from Wizkids. I can still think of a couple places localy that still have CT boosters in stock.

And you haven't bought them resold them here or on ebay to help out the deprived?!!?
What I am wondering about is the wording "tournament legal for Marvel Heroclix tournaments". Does this mean Infinity Challenge is still legal for Open heroclix tournaments?
Wyldstaar

It means all of Infinity Challenge is still legal in Open or Marvel Unrestricted tournaments.
what's the news on the big figs and the tourney cycles?

bah...I like the old captain america..except for the Rookie Ultimates version.
I hope they don't jack up Ultimate Hawkeye as badly.
Cap isn't bad...he is just overcosted!! His DV stats are too low.. actually his AV is too high! [I do like the ending 16 DV with support though...almost like Quasar..but for an extra 19 points..Quasar is soooo much more useful.
Spidey looks ok for 31 points
cheers

Not when they're marked up three times the original price. That's the only reason they're still in stock.

A guy who just signed up this month says Hulk and Iron Man are in the set, with nothing to back it up with but his own word. Must be true.
