He basically has the power of Thor but I wouldn't say he is his equal. Thor is the Thunder God after all, and Thor also has use of his Belt which can double his strength. (Unless that was lost, anyone know about that?) Either way, being found worthy to lift Mjollner has some heavy duty benefits!

Actually the issues for beta ray bill are 338-340 when they go back to his planet to rescue it i have it right here...he is as powerful if not a bit more than thor is there...but he has gotten MUCH stronger over the years

Beta Ray Bill kicked Thor's butt like nobody's business when he first appeared in Thor #337 and that was before he even had his own (or Thor's) hammer. He's pretty much on par with Thor but is debatably more dangerous as he's a more calculating and clever combatant; more strategy and less just charging headlong into battle. Still; ever since that first Beta Ray Bill story (Thor 337-340) his role in the Marvel Universe seems pretty much to be to show up once every few years and have his butt handed to him by lame villains like Tyrant.
