View Full Version : Movie Battles: Tournament Of Champions LW Division: Round 1, Match 5
As bravely and heroically as Borormir of Gondor fought, it seems he faced an opponent even greater than himself, and alas was taken down by the Scorpion King in the end. So the Scorpion King will advance to Round 2, but which if these next two combatants can say the same?
So without further hesitation, allow me to present your next battle in a BRAND NEW type of Tournament Of Champions:
MAXIMUS (GLADIATOR)
VS.
WILLIAM TURNER (PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN)
As always, same rules apply, no time to prepare, POOFed from where ever they were, with only what they routinely carry on them, to fight in a Large area til one stands and one falls. YOU decide Who.
Randomly Chosen Area:
Badlands – Lots of sand, some rock formations, scrub brush, small boulders, etc.
Thanks all, and enjoy.
REMEMBER, these characters should be judged and voted on ONLY due to what they’ve done, or supposed to have done, in the MOVIES. Any comic books, TV shows, cartoons, novels, anything else regarding these characters DOES NOT MATTER, and SHOULD NOT be used to defend such characters.

Both swordsman, but one has cleaved his way up through the ranks, and goes on to obliterate the best Rome can offer for gladitorial combat (ie what this tourney is).

If this were different terrain, my vote might have changed. Turner, per the swashbuckling genre, is excellent at using terrain, cover, climbing, jumping, swinging, etc.
Badlands is almost perfect for a gladiator though. Maximus' style plays well to the surroundings, and where Turner has a wide skill set, Maximus is more focused on soldiery and combat.
Maximus gets the nod from me here.

Maximus. Not just a great fighter...but a general. He knows the art of war.
Oh, my, what a slaughter...
Maximus wins this one in SECONDS.
Im going to say Maximus as well. hes probably one of the favorites for me personally in this LW Division. William Turner showed ALOT of ability, but as mentioned before, without anything in the area to really climb or leap from or onto, hes not going to get the chance to show it. Maximus will realize William is a good man, from each having their opponents movies downloaded into their heads prior to the start, so hell make it quick and relatively painless.
Another great character we missed was Connor MacLeod, of the Clam MacLeod. The Highlander would have been one of the best swordsmen here, along the lines of Aragorn, Maximus, Wesley, Zorro.....sheesh, looks like we already have loads of THE BEST sword fighters in their universes here already.
Kurgen (from Highlander) and the Darth Vader clone from Willow, forget his name, would have been nice additions to the sorely lacking villian side as well here.

MAXIMUS! MAXIMUS! MAXIMUS!

maniac, Marcus Auerilius was the name of the emporer. I don't remember what Maximus's other names were.
Anyhoo, Maximus does take this one.
As far as the names mentioned go, I think the best fight may be Inigo Montoya vs. Zorro. Oh, that would be a fight.
Sadly enough, Inigo didnt make the cut, BUT we do have Wesley, the Man in Black. A battle with him and Zorro would really be COOL, as would an Aragorn vs Maximus fight, or even Rambo vs Commando. :)

Maximus, without too much trouble here.

it's been a while, but I thought he gave his name as Maximus Desimus Aurelius, or something along those lines.
Oh well.
Boromir/Maximus would be a good fight, both are generals, both have a lifetime of experience, both are no holds barred, do what it takes types, both required opponents to effectively 'pre wound' them to be brought down.
The best fight though could have been Zorro/Dread Pirate Roberts (ie Wesley). Two masked men in masks that are the creme de le' creme of swordsmen.
Errol Flinn Robin hood would have been another great fencer/swordsman to have. He'd have been a great foil for Aragorn (of course Robin Hood would win that fight, but that's neither here nor there).
Maybe once this one is over we should redo the lightweight class with all the great noms that missed out this time arround.

Maximus.
With frightening ease.
On a side note - I missed the nominations - is Achilles from Troy in this tourney?
Nope, he was one of many possible movie LWs not nominated for this tournament.
Maniac_nmt

no, because the nominations were over before the movie came out, and two he'd be a middle weight. For while the movie doesn't get into it, the whole, invulnerable except for my heel thing is pretty over the top.
Besides, he goes through the Trojans like a whirling blender set on puree' no swordsman here would have a chance of ever facing him. Plus being able to chop the heads of statues with a single blow when the neck is as big arround as some people's chests.
11 votes to Nil, another possible slaughter here. If we dont get a few votes for William soon, or get more votes for Maximus, Ill start Match 6. In either case, THIS match will still be open for voting if anyone would wish to.

Why is Han Solo not in this tourney or would he be considered a MW?
He is in this tournament.

Give him 20 years as a pirate and Maximus still guts him.

blast! the blacksmith/pirate got a horrible draw for terrain and the gladiator got his backyard. Maximus takes this, but my question is, what weapons does he have/which of his matches in the movie are his garb/weapons from?
Vote: Maximus

This is a good question. Can someone who has seen the Gladiator recently tell us which weapons and items he used most often?

his most used equipment is a gladius (or two), shield, and torso/head armor, and on and off a spear.
in maximus' last fight in the desert arena before they go to rome.... he took out like 5 fully armed and armored gladiators, with just a gladius... and wearing minimal armor.
maximus takes this one... and makes it look easy.
now if this were maximus vs legolas.... that might be different.

Maximus!
Well, this battle is already decided, but I'm still casting my vote for Maximus.
A Pirate vs. a trained and well-experienced Gladiator?
I'll take the Gladiator nearly every time.
