I'm kind of new to the whole Transformers comics thing and I started reading Transformers:G1. Recently, I picked up ish 5. Prowl and Ironhide are discussing Vector Sigma. Who/What is Vector Sigma?

-Thanks in Advance

Vector Sigma is the massive and ancient supercomputer at the heart of Cybertron. It gives life to new Transformers. And I believe that the Autobot Matrix of Leadership is a "key" of sorts... allowing the Autobot leader to communicate with Vector Sigma by travelling subconsciously into the Matrix.

I'm sure there are other devoted Trans-fans here who can supply you with more info... as well as correct me if I'm wrong.

You may also want to check out seibertron.com It's a huge TF site.

Take it from a guy whos name is short for "Transformers Otaku" (Fan) that Talon's pretty much right.
Except about seibertron.com. It's not spot on for everything. I suggest tfw2005.com, and transfandom.com for nicer sites.

There are Keys to Vector Sigma. Sigma doesn't 'turn on' for normal TFs. They need to use the Key to activate him. Sigma seems to be sentient (especially in Japan), can give life to new Transformers. It seems to fuel the Matrix, in as much as the two are connected together as a TF 'spirituality'. Sigma's also the apparent progenitor of if not the TF race, then the Autobot leaders.

So basically, huge intelligent supercomputer that may or may not be creator of their race, gateway to their afterlife, and birthing chamber in one. Sigma's a "Holy Grail" in short for the TFs.
