View Full Version : The New Legion of Superheroes Clan
I didn't see any clan with this name, so I decided to start one. I tried a week ago, but the link was down.
This clan is to discuss the Legion and their long history, both pre- and post-Crisis and pre- and post-Zero-Hour.
I will be Mon-el, the leader. Please feel free to join as your favorite Legionnaire.
What is your favorite incarnation of the Legion?

I admit I normally don't join clans, but it just doesn't seem right for me to ignore this one. ;) If you're up to adding me, I'd like Rokk (surprise, right?).
Favourite incarnation of the Legion is a tough question. I have very fond memories of the pre-Crisis Legion and to me they're still a lot of what I envision when I think of the LSH. However, the Legionnaires/post-ZH Legion has some definite highs (not the least of which is we actually get to see Cos use some of his fabled leadership qualities that were only just stated in the original stories).
Oddly enough, if I look at the v4 Adult Legion as some sort of Elseworlds tale, I really really miss that version of the Legion at times - maybe it's just so many of the interesting characters from it that are now vanished into Comic Limbo. Surely I can't be the only person who misses Lydda, Loomis, Kono (yeah, she appeared post-ZH but it wasn't the same), Kent, Bounty, Grinn, the SUBS or even Devlin O'Ryan.
I welcome you to the Legion, you are a natural fit!
We have Mon-el, Lightning Lad, and Cosmic Boy.
I have all those issues you mention, Rokk, but they weren't favorites. I didn't like the jumpsuits (I prefer the colorful costumes). It was also the end of Mon-el as we old-timers knew him. I actually prefer the stuff from the 70-s and early 80's. They had gotten passed the "my power is.." in every panel they were high-lighted in prevalent in the 50's-early 60's. I also like that the Legion was the first team to kill off team members that stayed dead through Zero-Hour (and some even to now).
Doesb anyone else think the TA (WildCard) was a bad choice for a team set 1000 years ahead from anyone they might duplicate?

Not really. Sure, it might seem funny that you have to team them up with characters from a different time frame, but the way I see the TA is like this: it represents the powers of LSH'ers that we haven't gotten to see made yet. :)
Some examples -
*Gotham Knights (Batman Allies): Lyle, Umbra, Sensor, etc.
*Superman Family: Jo, Lar, Laurel, Drake, Shikari, Dawnstar
*Superman Enemy: Brainy, Lyle, Chuck, team strategists
*Danger Girl/Skrulls: Cham, Dreamer (pre-cog warning)
*Serpent Society: Gates, Tinya, the warpholes
*Fantastic Four: Legionnaires Three or other devotees
*Mystics: Garth, Ayla, Mysa (pre-ZH), Dirk (pre-ZH)
*Avengers: Team coordination (Imra, Cos, etc. leading)
Basically, I know we're never going to see the full Legion made so the TA at least lets us feel like the team is working as a full force. :)
You forgot Sensor for Skrull/ Danger Girl. Shikari could have Serpent Society, too. I think their powers should reflect their abilities, not their TA's. Cham has Shape Change. Lyle would have Stealth, Dreamer PC, and Tinya Phasing. I do agree with Superman Ally for Lar, Jo, and Laurel.

The names given after the TA's were just examples. There are lots of others that could fit in most of those. :)
While I agree their powers should reflect their abilities, I think the TA is the only way we'll see some of those powers. For example, odds are that we'll only see 2-3 LSH'ers per expansion and if DC only gets 2-3 more expansions that leaves a lot of unaccounted members. Chuck, for example, is very unlikely to get made into clix-form yet we can all feel he's there assisting the team because of the Wildcard TA. Similar situation for Sensor (she's a great character but I would gamble not high on the list of Must Make Clix) - whenever you use Batman or Danger Girls TA, you just attribute it to Sensor's powers instead of "borrowing" from another model. However, when the clix do get made they should also have the powers, even if it's a little redundant (e.g.: Stealth Lyle or Phasing Tinya).
The Legion's such a diverse team with sooo many powers I just see the Wildcard as the best way to represent the wide variety threat they bring to the table. :)
It just sort of goes against the tradition of having one unique power to be a member if everyone can mimic the same power.

Eh, like I said before, I don't see it as everyone mimicing powers so much as them being "proxies" for the missing Legionnaire dials. :)
Anyway, figure it's time to try a new subject so we can try and keep this thread going...
We frequently talk about our favourite Legionnaires or runs, but here's one we don't get to discuss too often: favourite villain.
I go for the Time Trapper. No, not just because of his real identity (though it fit pretty well :) ) but he's just that hidden unseen threat looming over everything. Every study the Legion makes of time or every voyage they make through the time-barrier they know it's by the grace of the Trapper. He's the sword hanging by the knot over the Legions head at all times.
Least favourite? Ra's al-Ghul. It was a fun enough storyline and, yes, I realize it was to try and snag Batman readers but, frankly, he just didn't fit in the way they used him. Oh, at first as a manipulator he was fine but when he started to do hand-to-hand combat with Mon'el...bleh.
I, too, was disappointed with the sudden super-strength Ra's seemed to have in slapping M'onel around. That should never have happened. I really don't like any of the new villians. None are very impressive.
The Fatal 5 have always been favorites, as was the Dark Circle. My top pick would have to go to the Legion of Super-Villians. They were the only team able to take on the whole Legion, and even though they lost, the full fight scenes were awesome.

Plus, not all of the TA's represent "powers".
Sure, the Batman Ally TA can represent Umbra's shadowcasting, but if I proxy the Human Torch as Sunboy, his FF TA doesn't represent anything more than a willingness to sacrifice for the team.

Darkseid... the first time around. ;)

I've always been a fan of the LSH. I like just about all of the incarnations I've seen. Didn't get into the more adult stories back in the late 80's though due to not being able to find them.
The current incarnation is pretty good but missing several key characters like Gim Allon and Dirk Morgna. Would be nice to see Chuck Taine get his powers and Tenzil Kim to save the day sometime.
Here's hoping we can get several more members in 'clix form before it all ends.
I agree with both of you Hack and Cliff. I miss Sunboy and Gim (Leviathan) and I hope we get lots of Legion before its done.
Its been a while since I posted due to vacation, but I wanted to move us back to the front page to bring in some fresh members.
New topic- Which version of Timber Wolf is your favorite:
1. Classic
2. Furball
3. Current Wolverine look-alike
(Though I know T-wolf was around before Wolvie, the current looks even more like Wolvie than the old one.)
My vote is the classic.

Figure it's been awhile since I've seen a post on here so this is a good place as any to ask:
Any thoughts on the Legions/Titans crossover?
It will set into motion the new Legion of Superheroes series, now that the Legion book is finished. I will be getting it.

Just add Cham to your sig.
It is confirmed that the Legion of Superheroes will be starting in the next couple of months. It is also strongly rumored that we will get several new LSH clix in February. Long Live the Legion!!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the Legion!
January should see a new series, with a whole new outlook on the team. It should be interesting.

Thanks for all the help JayThor. My girlfriend bought me the old Cosmic Boy figure that came with the PVC ring. That should hold me until the I find the real one.
Cool! Has anyone else checked out Legion #1? What did you think?
