Jack Assterson's theory of cyclical posting

Posted 03/07/2011 at 00:11 by SLVRSR4
The Theory of Cyclical Posting

1. Company makes decision

2. Forum posters discuss decision. Typically 60/40 against decision

3. People upset with decision post, some rationally, some not. A percentage say they will quit. The percentage is usually dictated by the size of the change and its direct impact on the playing population.

4. People post "Can I have your stuff?" or variations of "Leave if you don't like it!"

5. Those for the change accuse those against of whining.

6. Those against claim those for are opposed to hearing their opinions at all. Censorship is brought up at this point.

7. Eventually threads are posted telling people to "Get over it!" These can either be straightforward or light mockery.

8. Thing go back and forth in a cycle of bitter condecension and recriminations until it finally blows over. The change is implemented and the game enters a new equilibrium. Go back to step 1.

Note: Steps 5 and 6 tend to happen virtually simultaneously.

You left out any mention of Nazis or Godwin's Law. Perhaps a footnote? Otherwise perfect.
