Don't forget, you were a newbie once too.

Today, someone out there bought their first booster of HeroClix.

Today, someone out there is playing their first game.

Today, someone out there has just joined HCRealms.

And they have the same questions we all did, months, weeks, or even just days ago.

Remember, we were all newbies once. Sometimes people get frustrated when the new guys asks the same question, again, but remember, we were all there once.

It's a credit to the members here that this is rarely a problem, so, basically, keep up the good work folks!

See you on the boards...

This is a great point here. Ive seen new members with their heads chomped off and spit out for asking a question that has been in several threads. Some people werent meant to be teachers I guess.......

Im not a rules lawyer and I still need clarifications sometimes too, and thats why this forum here is so cool, you can get your questions answered usually very quickly, and most usually in a very friendly manner.

Just last week we had a new player join our local group.he entered the tournament to gain experience.even tho he lost everyone helped to teach him how to play giving advise and whatnot. biting peoples heads off for asking a question is not only rude but it can and will turn off potential new blood to the game.

I'm in no way advocating biting the heads of newbies (let 'em season for a bit :) ), but it would behoove the newbies to search the forums to see if their question has already been answered/discussed . . .

Far be it from me to claim superior knowledge of this game...but I've at least been around since the beginning. I try, when I think I can contribute, to answer newbie questions. Or oldie questions for that matter. I know I still run into them quite often.

One problem is this: There are those (I've met them) who DON'T know they were once newbies themselves. They refuse to recognize it. They have a solid grasp of the game now...but fail to realize they developed it over time. Maybe they've been gaming for years, which I DO see as an advantage in strategic thinking, but they sometimes think this makes them an aotomatic ace at HC...or any other game. Its annoying.

Bottom line...HELP those who ask for it. Don't belittle them no matter how elementary you THINK the question is.

Perhaps, as a condition of registering on HCrealms, the newbies had to visit a quick intro page that gave them the basics of netiquette and searching for answers/topics that are already out there? I dunno...

I was a newbie once - then I went to the wizkids boards and to this board and some fine judges explained the rules for me and everybody - every day. The same questions over and over and they still answered them and helped new players.

Tsannik, HeroComplex, Xanth, double_a - those were the judges that helped me understand the rules.

Thank you to all of them

 I appreciated that post greatly, especially because I'm one of those poor slobs who doesn't really have a clue. :) I looked at HC for about the 5th time today and wondered where the heck I'd find a group to play with. I've done a bit of research in the game and I'd definitely get in if I could find some people to play with. I know I should look at comic book stores/hobby stores and when I complete my next move (to Vancouver WA, near Portland OR) at the end of June I'll go hunting. :) But does anybody know a good website to look at for finding fellow Clixers by State or something? I'd like to get in touch with an expert who can show me some of the basics before I go out and spend lots of money on a game I could easily suck at. Emails/pms/thread responses all welcomed! Thanks in advance!

Great Post Webhead! Some people are snobbish to those newbies.......and skeevo666 some newbies don't even know how to use a forum, much less this one(ie search). So they just post. It is our responsiblity to understand and respond in a way that says "welcome to the game, this is how it works"! not "Not another ________ thread!"

Everyone is still learning in the end, so let's help each other!

yeah. good point. i remember my first tournament. i was so nervous about playing the game correctly that i kept dropping my dice on the ground. ugh.

I recently went back and looked over a thread I made when I first got here - It was embarrasing the number of things I was doing wrong! Be kind to the noobs!

Great Topic,

as a new comer to "HEROCLIX", I really appreciate this. I've read a few threads that other newbies dared to venture into with their questions; the treatment some of them received was disheartening. I didn't bother registering for several weeks.

Thanks to all of you out there whom are willing to share their knowledge with us rookies.
I shall post questions in the very near future.

Look over the thread...those who seem more tolerant of newbies would accept private messages regarding questions.

Although I encourage people to use the private messaging if they feel uncomfortable about posting be aware that sometimes it's better to post your question. It gives everyone a chance to read the answers. This has two benefits: the standard reason of "if you were confused by the rules then there's a very good chance someone else was so you'll be helping them" and you can get second opinions to ensure a correct answer. Most of the people who answer questions are pretty knowledgeable but everyone makes mistakes.

And if anyone gives you a hard time just picture them as a pathetic slug of a human who has no life beyond trying to make themselves out to be something special because they they think they know all the rules to heroclix. After that it doesn't really matter what they say :)
