Just previewed today. He has a power similar to the alter-ego or revert mechanic that lets him swap into his 2x2 base colossal versions. This figure is single based. When he is adjacent to opposing characters, what happens to the opposing characters? What squares does he get to occupy?
The implications of this power on positioning are very important. I do not expect an answer right away, but I hope it is being considered.
Here is the text of the power:
Mass Increase: Give Apocalupse apower action that deals no pushing damage and replace this character with GSX #04 on click #14 or GSX #G07 on click #9. Existing action tokens on this character and action tokens for this action are applied to the replacement. This power can;t be countered. (The replacement Apocalypse can't be healed past the listed starting click and this character's point value is scored if that character is KO'd.)
Someone in the preview thread here mentioned that the rule of occupancy would kick in and if there was not a 2x2 space available to him, including the square he is in, he would not be able to grow.
I wonder if that is how it will work. Makes it a much more situational power.
This isn't really different from Beast Boy turning into the T-Rex.
One of the 4 squares of big Apocalypse's base must be in the same square that the little Apocalypse was when he used the power. Otherwise he can be placed in any configuration.
And if the 2x2 Apoc can't be placed on the map because of blocking terrain or opponents, then the Rule of Occupancy prevents the replacement.
3) THE RULE OF OCCUPANCY
Any game effect resulting in two or more characters
occupying the same square, or characters,
terrain markers, or objects occupying a square of
blocking terrain, is prohibited (except for Debris
markers, see Terrain p. 11). If part of a game effect
would cause this to happen, that part of the game
effect is ignored. If moving or placing a character,
terrain marker, or object would cause this, then
the character, terrain markers, or object must
instead move to or be placed in a different square.
Characters using certain powers and abilities
may freely travel through other characters and/
or blocking terrain, but if it will end its movement
in the same square as another character or
blocking terrain, the moving character must end its
movement before entering the occupied square.
Apocalypse would not be able to transform if there aren't enough empty squares to fit his larger self.
Yes, if you pay attention to terrain and figure placement, you can Poc-block him.

Quite realistic that you can use terrain to make him unable to grow... Would have been fun if the power prevented it from happening with characters but probably too complex to put in a single power... sometimes you have to make it simple.
I just wanted to note something else that is interesting/awesome about this figure...
...On the Heroclix page they boasted about how Apocalypse's trait will let the Horsemen using the ATA keep the +1 bonus regardless of whether any of them have been KO'd.
I think the MUCH cooler effect the trait has is that it will now allow Apocalypse and ALL 4 of his Horsemen (Death, Famine, Pestilence and War) to be played together on a comic accurate theme team with ALL of them being able to use the "Horsemen of Apocalypse" additional Team Ability!
Previously, if you wanted to play one of the colossal Apocalypse figures on a Horsemen theme team (with the ATA) you could only play him with 3 of his Horsemen. On top of that one of the 3 had to be Caliban since the colossal Apocalypses both had point values exactly on the hundred (300 or 500). So if Apocalypse wanted to use the ATA Caliban was the only Horseman with a low enough point value (93) to leave room for the 1 point Apocalypse needed for the ATA.
Yeah kinda sucks he's not really scary to me at all his dial should be atleast 20 points lighter its messed up that she hulk could mess up this guys day. Why would a character known for fighting his own battles get front loaded master mind its just really really dumb thanks for reading a book again guys arghhh so frustrating when it's one of you favorite characters and he's literally useless by himself

He's....he's not known for fighting his own battles at all! He practically defines Mastermind in the Xmen Villains. His whole schtick is empowering other mutants to fight to see if they can survive. Have you read a book with him in it?
