With the spoiling of The Runner and the "Space Track" map, I am interested in creating some sort of "race" scenario.
My initial concept is to place 3 or 4 maps length-wise down a table. All the players start at one end and "race" to the other end. Possibly have check points that they must cross over to advance down the "track" (or possibly earn extra VPs).
Players could be running a single figure, maybe set a low point limit to "limit" choices. Or they could be running a team (but if all the players are playing on the same map I would want to keep the number of members on a team small).
However, how do I "balance" this scenario. Between the various movement types, powers and actual Movement Values I am overwhelmed.
option 1
you could limit the game to certain pre determined figures and let each person choose which to play then. id probably go with the team format and say each team gets 3 characters and then choose between a few characters like for example a HSS character for their high speed or maybe a character that has smoke cloud or incapacitate to slow their opponents team down. i would suggest limiting the game to grounded characters only to take advantage of the terrain as much as you can. maybe say that a character can use phasing to get past the terrain but cuts their speed in half that way they can avoid the smoke clouds/terrain effects but wont let them just bypass the entire map. option 2
use preset stats for each character type, just make up some character cards and let them choose from a few options. like option 1 has the highest speed but only has incapacitate so he can choose to move or incap an enemy while option 2 is a little slower but has smoke cloud which if used well can slow down multiple enemys, then option 3 while he is the slowest can phase through terrain and use outwit to remove an oponents ability but can only use it like every other turn or something like that, option 4 could have mind control which could just be fun to run an enemy the opposite direction and stop in hindering. if you use the cards for the stats then whoever plays can just pick their favorite character to use as a game piece and they gain the stats of the card they choose. there are many many combo's you can come up with using the cards and i think thats the only way you will get the game type to be fair cause there will always be that one character with super high speed or incap 3 targets or some other ability that makes it better than the others.
you could make players chose 3 100 point or less figures. one figure is at the start of the first map and one at the end of the first map and put the third at the end of the second map. and they can do a rally race. once the first figure reaches the second figure the second figure is the only figure that moves to the third and then the third figure is the only figure that moves to the end of the third map
