The venue has no excuse to not buy the OP kits. They are a valid marketing tool for then and pay for themselves when used right.
The Judge should not be playing at all in the IG events. For regular events I will play the bye round, if there is one, but the IG events are for too cool of a prize to not give the full attention to the players and the game.
Plus the Judge is being compensated for the time if the venue is following the suggested orize dispersion format.
I call about 4 shades of shady on both the venue and judge, and if it were me, would not shop/ay there until they square that situation away!
Addendum for clarification : I'm speaking in generalities and taking the OP's initial statement as a hypothetical. There is probably more too it than what he's telling/seeing, but I stand by my opinion in general terms. Judges have no place buying the OP kits, venues have no place forcing that to occur, game and players comes first when the event is running.
give the full attention to the players and the game.
This is another big factor in the whole question of whether or not judges should even play the Bye round.
I always prefaced my Bye rounds games with "I can't guarantee how much playtime we'll get because my first responsibility is answering questions and being the Judge."

If the judge is buying the op kits, how is he getting compensated by keeping 1/3 or 1/4th of what he bought? Also, the venue simply would not market heroclix if mlm wasn't as involved and commited as he is to making sure people like the OP have a tournament to go to every Sunday.
As for the judge playing in the IG events, he only plays the person who would have gotten the bye, and the game is always recorded as a loss for the judge no matter what happened. It simply is a means to make sure the person who drew the short straw gets to play the same number of games as everyone else.
I do like your last paragraph though. If you don't like it, don't come. Problem solved.
I see no problem with the judge playing for the prize... if he doesn't take the judge's prize. You want to play? Fine, conform to the rules like everyone else but don't "double dip". If that happens to force a bye then I'm OK with that too... just make sure the first round bye is random, which means the judge could happen to get it too.
As an example, our judge came and got things started yesterday but couldn't stick around as something came up. There was an even number of players, so no bye. However, when he left I took over as "judge". I went on to win the event. I did not take the LE for running the event, as I played in it as well (I actually had all the players roll off for my LE since I didn't need it). Had I lost, I still would not have taken the judge LE.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.

agree with this. how do you guys feel about this? its been decided at our venue firstt place will not garuntee you thanos. the winner will flip over a card first to see if he gets the one with thanos on it. placing will decide order you flip cards over

it doesn't sound like that actually makes the winner any more/less likely to get him than anything else. Which if that's what you're going for that's fine.
What might add some competitive value though is if the winner got 3 Cards, second place gets 2. Everyone else gets one.
Interesting idea though.

i do think it will be like that....some beginning to think we are coddling bad players(the ones that refuse to learn the rules and lose everygame) but it should be interesting
