Hey guys i'm excited to say i created a facebook page for you guys to keep up with the heroclix scene and what all is going on, plus you can keep in touch with me as to when we are playing and just keep in the know like the page so i can keep you guys up to date!
I played at Dungeon Comics last night and I must say Ryan and Dereck have done a great job down there.I have not seen that many people in a underground venue like that in a long time. There had to be between 15 and 20 people there I never had a chance to get an exact count because I moved from one match to the next very quickly until close. It was really cool to see the wide variety in age and skill level and everyone having a good time.I got schooled by a ten year old girl xD!!
Over all the enviroment was welcoming and challenging they played a 500pt unristricted golden age tourney wich was alot of fun.And when I did get the chance to look around there were alot of really nice figs on the tables I mean those guys and girls have some nice collections.Ryan and Dereck are great T.O's and I would recommend anyone whos looking for new faces and new places to check them out.
On July 27th, there will be a tournament with the prize being a Wizkids Convention Exclusive Giant-Man Colossal figure. Stopped by the Pat Booker Rd. location today with Ryan for the sealed. I had fun. Everyone there played to the best of their abilities and were very friendly to both of us. Came out on top but not to say there wasn't good competition to overcome before getting there. There were nine of us overall so someone was going to get a bye. In classic fashion, I am the lucky guy to bye first. What can I say, i'm blessed like that. There were some great pulls though. The best being the Sentry/Void chase. As soon as everyone saw Adam pull it out of his booster, you could not help but feel the widespread moral flush out of all the players. Other good figures pulled were the Unspoken, Ares (Ryan), and the Sentry, who I don't think was even played. I was lucky enough to come up with a great team made up of Kang, Baron Zemo, and Donald Blake. Now lets break this down:
Round 1: I get the bye. Ryan with a win.
Round 2: I am still confused on how the program there matches up The player, but I end up playing against the Sentry/Void chase. Not fun. I figured it was over. We played on the Avengers Mansion side of the map. I lost the initiative roll though I have to say, out of both sides of that map, the mansion was probably the only side I had a chance on. After two round of positioning and pushing Kang into something useful, I was able to get out two shots of P/PB on the S/V and hit both, he had to rest. I got him down to click nine where he still has a healthy 10 attack, 3 damage, Running Shot with Pulsewave click. Multi-attack on top of it all to boot. Adam took his shots and missed both. Kang MOE'd for the kill. I beat Sentry/Void. Ryan wins his game.
Round 3: Went up against the wonderful duo that held me off to a standstill the day before, The Unspoken and Nick Fury. This kid had me all over the board. Both with their Stealth, I would never have gotten a shot off if he would have just stayed in hindering. I intentionally kept MoEing down Kangs dial to the Pulsewave clicks. I figured the only way to beat them was to get down to something useful against stealth without having to get up close and personal with a 5 damage, hard hitting monster. I also figures that it would get him out of hindering into the open. Lucky for me it worked like a charm. He moved Unspoken out into the open and I was able to worm my way to a win. Ryan walked away with another win.
Round 4: Now I get to play against Ryan who has now gone 3-0 with his Ares/Wolverine combo. This was tough. Ryan picked the cell map which would not have been my first choice to play against his team. I think it would have been easier for me if Ryan's pieces were out in the open on the Mansion. This game came down to rolls and could have gone either way. Unfortunately for Ryan though, my dice did not let me down.
So here we are, I am technically 4-0 with the only undefeated record. I figured It was over until the judge came over with a sheet showing a fifth round pairings. A little confused, I asked what happened, especially after I found out I had to play against Adam wth the Sentry/Void all over again! I am still a little confused about how a round 5 EVER came about since I was standing as the only undefeated player. Lucky the other players there did not feel it was fair. I was declared the winner and was given the choice of either a Invisible Woman or a Mr. Fantastic. Don't know what happened to the rest of the many LE's H&F is said to get, but apparently Thing and Spiderman were too busy savin the world.
To sum it all up, I was lucky enough to get a bye first round, play against a Sentry/Void the second round, and almost have to again during a unnecessary phantom 5th round, and win overall.
I cant help but think I had to jump over some nasty speed bumps on my way to victory.
Sorry to point this out also:

Funny how only two LE's were available today and given out to only the top two guys.

the problem I have with lair is size. There is no room there! How can a smaller venue possibly hope to hold better events. I see tons of lair guys at heroes on Saturdays anyways so I don't know where all the hypocritical hate for h n f is coming from.
but that is super lame to see that h n f withholds prize support. I wonder what happened to all their extra op kits...that is so sketchy.

If that is the only problem that you have with Dragon's Lair, then I can tell you that the magic players are starting to clear out of the main hallway so we are starting to venture out of the little room we are usually in.
No one hate's H&F, but don't you think that being sketchy with prize support and actually advertising the opposite on here is a good enough reason to play somewhere where the judge and venue are honorable, even though the play area can sometimes be small?
I am very sorry about what happend this weekend Im pretty shure I know who you are predatorsmurf I want want to give you my most sincere apology and you and Ryan can Bring your figs up and change them out for what you want.Unfortunatly I do alot to support the Heroclix Community so I cant be everywere at once and Im really miffed I missed you guys I really need to get you guys numbers so we can hang out more. But I assure you we havent done anything different in the pass three years as far as release tourneys are concerned, the judge who takes my place when Im gone is Shane he is very new and usually gets alot of different instructions from alot of different people when Im not around. As of right now I bounce between two stores and try to check out every clix venue out there and help them get there numbers up.My mother was a H&F shopper so I had dealings with the Connlys when I was very young and now my children shop there and hopefully there kids will shop there so the integrity of that venue is very important to me and I assure you we will fix this.We learn from event to event what people want from competitve play and we are working hard to give it to them.We are working on a server base scoring system similar dci called sgc but it has been along time in the making. But after what I have seen happening in the heroclix scene latley I will be stepping my game up.

To be as diplomatic as possible, I have said that I like H&F. I have been shopping at Dragon's Lair for almost 10 years so I know what it feels like to be dedicated to a store
I don't care about the prizes I received or how the tournament was run yesterday. If I did not tell you about the problems I had then you would never know to fix them.
I would like to mention that I never spoke for Ryan. I only mention him to accentuate his Heroclix abilities.
There is something to be said about consistency, whether it be in running the tournaments or in the prizes provided to the players. Everyone running the games should be on the same page and i'm sure eventually consistency will be the foundation all of your tournaments will be founded on.
Though, I apologize for my words and there is no need to apologize to me.

I feel a little bad, because it seems I turned this thread into a "which venue is the best" type of thing. Obviously I'm going to be feel partial to Dragon's Lair, because that is my venue.
I honestly don't care which venue has the most players. We average 10-12 players a week, and I'm VERY happy with that. If more want to come, that's great, but I think it's pretty good. I'd love to have more people for my regular players to play against. I find the issue of venue size a lame excuse to not attend tournaments, because I can always get more room if I need it. Whenever we get larger turnouts, I'm always able to get more rooms or tables. Dragon's Lair is also able to rent the empty space next door, and probably will when I hold my larger tournament later in the year.
The one thing I will say I'm proud of (which is evident in this thread), is that I get loyalty and respect from my players. I don't mind them going off to play at other venues. In fact, I'm glad when they do. As previously posted, my regular players go to these other venues to easily win prizes, because they are the best. I find it troubling that these other venues attempt to use unfair tactics to keep them from winning. I also find it odd that someone would let a new person that's not familiar with things run events. Hopefully PredatorSmurfs problem gets rectified. I'm sure it will.
I can honestly say that I've never prevented someone from winning or getting the prize they want, just because they have never been to the venue before. The problem with new people is that I do think sometimes people come to the venue expecting an easy win, and they quickly find out that Dragon's Lair is not the place for it. I think we have some top tier players at our venue and they're not easy to beat.
Sorry for my rant, but I was initially upset at the OP for claiming that there isn't a Heroclix scene in San Antonio. It's very clear that that is not the case. I'm not trying to steal any players away from any other venue. In fact, it would be nice if all the players from all venues went and played at other places. Unfortunately, Dungeon Comics has chosen Friday to be the day they play their games. I know my regular players are going to choose Dragon's Lair as their first choice on a Friday. If they picked a different day, then I'm sure my players would go to their events as well. I have nothing against Heroes and Fantasies and I hope my players will still want to play there.
I actually really like the idea of a group of players from each venue attending all the venues to see who is the best. It'd be nice.

I was wondering what format your Friday night events are, a group of us are hoping to come check out your venue this weekend.
The last post in the "San Antonio, TX tournament thread" linked in chrisdosmil's signature will always show you the last winners and the following weeks format. He usually updates it by the Monday before.

Just to elaborate on this post on behalf of chrisdosmil, I have included a picture of the Giant-Man that will be offered in the above tournament.
The Giant-Man is a currently limited figure of only 550 in the world! This figure is currently going for between $130 and $150 dollars on Ebay and I don't see this changing as of the tournament date. $10 dollars to play Heroclix and possibly make out like a bandit with a win? Yes please! Why would you not want too...
