Wait... The old school version is a vet, while the update is experienced?
The update loses indomitable, and doesn't have willpower appear anywhere on the dial?
And, for what it's worth, I like the old-school sculpt a lot more than the trenchcoat version.
All in all, not entirely disappointed, but not jumping for joy, either.
I am still waiting for the skilled fighter that could go toe-to-toe (for a while) against the Hulk.
Thing here gets a single 18 defense (on the last click of the experienced 'update') between 14 total clicks, and his average attack is just over 9 (and it never gets to be even as good as his top clicks on either dial, so once you get a single hit in (see: low defense), he is actually worse than that).
Being able to bring a light object in is an okay trick, but you are having to give a move action, and once again, that 16-17 defense isn't going to help a lot if you are waiting to clear before you follow up.
I'd rather have seen those points spent elsewhere. Give him indomitable (or willpower, at least, on those special clicks), and/or improve his attack and defense numbers.
I'm just struggling to find where I think that the 128 point Thing dial here is better than this:
(Special) Hulk Throw Defenders!: Characters possessing the Defenders keyword or team ability who begin an action adjacent to Hulk may modify their speed value by +3. If they choose to do so, they can't use the Carry ability and after actions resolve, give them an additional action token; if you can't, deal them 1 unavoidable damage instead.
or maybe even this:

(Speed) Incoming!: Joe Fixit can use Leap/Climb. After he uses it for a move action, he can use Quake as a free action.
(Damage) Stunning Throw: When Joe Fixit throws an object in a ranged combat attack, after actions resolve give a hit character an action token.
... Both of which come in cheaper.
The 'veteran' dial may be another 'okay for the points' situation, but I don't play this game to put together dials that are good for the points, I play it because of my favorite characters (of which the Thing is at or very near the top of the list) and I don't think that the Thing is a 6 click figure. Ever.
Especially not when we have 8 click Batmen and Magnetos running around out there.
I'm angry with WK for lying and giving us another preview when they said they wouldn't! They said "That's all for this week" and here we are, with a preview. Liars.
I like the sculpts, both of them, but the dials are just decent. I'll consider grabbing the trenchcoat version for the cool factor and the dial's being decent.

As has been said the 80 some point version is better and actually quite good. He starts strong, never fears pushing, and has move and attack powers. A winner. Not sure we needed -another- mid cost Thing after the CW LE...but...whatever. However Flasher-Thing is awful for the points. Starts weak. Bad defense values the entire dial. (ok not the entire but the 17s and single 18 are not where you want them imho, just too many 16s) And an SP thats novelty at best.
I think I like the 82 point Ben more than the 128 point Ben. Although, I really do love that "Lemme Grab Something" SP. Since I've always thought that all SS users should be able to 'rip it up' then I obviously like that Ben gets to do it for at least part of his 128pt dial.
Still and all - I really like both of these - sculpts and dials - and can't wait to get 'em!
Why not re-write Super Strength such that characters under 200 points (who have no tokens on them) can be given a light object from outside the game, characters 200 points and up (who have no tokens on them) can be given a heavy object from outside the game.
Not removing this until we get ROCKABILLY MODOK! ROCKABILLY MODOK! ROCKABILLY MODOK!

Well my basic complaints are filled above with everyone else's but I do enjoy both figures. I see the Exp version running with Joe Fixit in the near future.
"The world is mine. To mold as I see fit. To create a world as only Doom might. Yes. There will be ponies." - Emperor Doom
What I do like about the modern Thing here is that they've basically a featless version of "Rip It Up". Now I don't know the modernity of the old Seperation Field Generator, but if it can work in modern, this Thing makes legal at least two of my golden age arrangements. But for 120+ points....eh....not sure this piece is worth it.
Frankly, I just don't see myself playing either of these figures when I can have the 140 Had Enough Clobberin' Yet version and still stay within theme. For me to want him, I would have had to see a promotable Fantastic Four at 300pts.
