FEATURING Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes #5 Captain Kirk's Legion of Women
The only shortcoming of the great IDW/DC Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes crossovers was that the demands of the story allowed for slightly more imagination on the covers than could be contained within the narrative.
The greatest alternative cover for the series was for issue 5, which featured Captain James T. Kirk surrounded by a force of non-human women...all of whom exist in HeroClix, and happen to make a very respectable 400-point force. To see the cover, and the force, follow the link!
Synopsis: Even though this series did feature Captain Kirk trying his maneuvers on a certain blue-skinned member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, it was unfortunate that nothing like the cover image to #5 ever occurred in the series. The cover impressively shows seven powerful, non-human women that certainly would appeal to Iowa's favorite son. More unfortunate, in terms of HeroClix, is that the existing Captain Kirk dials do not play well with this group of characters. The seven Legionnaires don't make that shabby a force of their own:
This keyworded-force of Legion of Super Heroes members has drawbacks, but can still be threatening via the additional team ability Legion Lost. The trick will be to choose the team ability that best hurts the opponent's force. For example, the low damage values may make the Outwit-granting Superman Enemy team ability a good choice.
LEGION LOST Cost: 4 per character Prerequisite Keyword(s):Legion of Super Heroes, Legion of Super Villains
Once at the beginning of the game, if no character on your force possesses a team ability that isn't a wild card team ability, choose any one DC team ability other than an additional team ability, a wild card team ability, or a team ability that can't be used by wild cards. Characters using this team ability are not wild cards and can use the chosen team ability if they can't already.
HeroClix has an unfortunate track record of producing Legion of Super Heroes figures in the 70+ point range that don't really pull their weight...and Princess Projectra from the Superman booster set falls in that category. In the comics, the character has repeatedly held her own in both ranged and close combat, but in HeroClix her dial is almost pure support. My best advice is to not be afraid to push her onto the second click (perhaps by taking a theme team probability control token?) so that she at leas has Mind Control as an offensive option. Also don't forget to use the Full Illusions when possible.

Illusionary Wall: Princess Projectra can use Barrier as if she possessed a range value of 4.
Full Illusions: Give Princess Projectra a free action and choose an adjacent character with the Legion of Super Heroes keyword. That character can use Super Senses until your next turn as long as it is adjacent to Princess Projectra.
The Dawnstar from the Crisis HeroClix expansion is a fun piece to use when backing up other offensive threats...but when she is one of the main offensive figures on the force she may not be as strong. The Quarry power is important for the rest of the force, so don't forget to make use of it.

Tracker: Dawnstar can use Hypersonic Speed, but only Option 1.
Quarry: Before the beginning of the first turn , choose an opposing character; this character is Dawnstar's quarry. Modify by +1 the attack value of Dawnstar and all friendly characters when they are attacking the quarry.
The Legion of Super Heroes starter Saturn Girl is the best option for offense on this force, which is rather unfortunate. If you want to give up her offensive potential for some Perplex, you can downgrade to either the Rookie or Experienced version from Cosmic Justice, but I just don't think it is worth it.

Telepathic Coordination: Once during your turn (but not during another action), as a free action Saturn Girl modifies by +2 the attack value or defense value of any other target friendly character for the duration of an action. Saturn Girl must be within 10 squares of and have a clear line of fire to the target.
I was disappointed I couldn't fit the 66-point Veteran version of Shadow Lass on this force (and still use the ATA), because I consider the Experience version below to be a huge drop in utility. The shared 17-defense is still better than most of the other starting defenses...I just wish that the high defense value lasted longer on this dial.

Dream Girl (from the 2007 Justice League 5-figure booster set) is another figure that is practically shooting blanks on offense. This team offers so little offense as is, you may not have any option but to put her in the front lines where she may be able to deal damage...as long as no damage reducers are in play.

The Phantom Girl (from the Legion of Super Heroes starter set) brings one great trick (Disruption) and respectable attack, defense and damage values to the force. She shines on other HeroClix forces, but on this one she is going to be required to provide more offense than usual, which may lead to disappointment.

Disruption: If Phantom Girl moves through or occupies the same square as an object, or at the end of a move action is adjacent to an object or an opposing character carrying an object, you may remove that object from the game.
Like Phantom Girl above, Shrinking Violet is an excellent low-cost dial, and one that you will need to get the most out of if this team is to succeed.

I wish this team was more threatening at 400 points, but the lack of damage output is sure to be a killer...especially if they cannot make Outwit work for them. I still think that it could be a fun force in certain circumstances.
I'm curious what sort of feats players would assign to Captain James T. Kirk (from a budget of 49 points) to have him lead this squad of Lady Legionnaires at 500 points. Note that the Legionnaires cannot use Legion Lost with Kirk on the force, and I have assumed that the Experienced Umbra will be replaced by the Veteran Shadow Lass, leaving 49 points for the force build.
To answer the question, I'd have Enhanced Reflexes on Kirk, playing him on dial A. He's got extra awesome that way.
Stunning Blow on Saturn Girl, because you kinda need a bit more offense and I think tokens on opposing characters help you if you're at least dealing damage, too.
I honestly can't think of much else.
"The future is not fixed, and my choices are my own... and yet, how ironic! For I now find, I have no choice at all! I am warrior... let the battle be joined." Dinobot
The first time I saw Shrinking Violet, I asked where the figure was.
I remember opening that starter, and being very excited when I found her dial. There was no mention of her at all leading up to the release. It was a real surprise. Wizkids did stuff like that a time or two.
I think in a 500 point game, you could drop the ATA, then throw on 5 Armor Piercings. This way, at least you're doing damage with each hit, even if it's just one (then throw on Armor Wars for an additional one)

That was how I felt too. I ended up wanting a sculpt on her at one point, so I just got CustomCreator to whip one up for me. It was one of the great parts of her being a blank dial.
Also, great team, though it does prove that the Legion of Super Heroes does kind of get left behind when it comes to solid offense. It's a shame that you can't use both Kirk and Legion Lost on the same team, as that would let the team be a lot more dangerous.
