I could care less about the product itself, I won't buy it, but I won't begrudge people who will.
My biggest problem is the player base it could bring to this game. A lot of others have stated it before, but theft is definitely a big concern. I'm not to worried about physical altercations, if only because the aggression would be quickly removed from any danger presented to other players.
But for me personally it comes down to the disrespectful attitudes almost all YGO players I have met show to each other and to people running events/stores. I just don't want that type of player in the game that I chose to play because it is fun and not full of people who would stress me out.
I did meet some Clix players last year in all of the IG & Supremacy league stuff that made the YGO players look like model citizens. Serious d-bags. And there were people that were fantastic that were a joy to play with. So who knows.
Overall I'm for things that expand the game. These forays into alternative licenses and game formats are hopefully a positive for the company. Assuming they've done the research and the business plan is solid it should mean growth. And growth is good.
i've already told players who've voiced this concern to me. My Game. My Rules. The crap that Yu Gi players get away with in their games WILL NOT FLY in Clix. they can do whatever they want. I will not abide the rampant LOUD cursing (the type that accompanies a 12 year old who just learned swear words and now wants to use them as frequently and loudly as possible), thieving, or body odor. You come play Clix, you abide by Clix rules. FOR EVERYTHING.
As for the characters... well if they want to make figs of the monsters themselves, no card game aspect to it, fine! More characters, why not.
Let me bottom line it for y"all. Justin ziran and wizkids needs a new cow to milk because the cow called heroclix players is drying up due to us all complaining about releases so rapidly and all that jazz so hench forth yu gi oh players love rapid releases so that cow needs to be milked whereas our cow is out to pasture. I dont like to bash compaines but guess what we all know the truth and it needs to be put out in the open weather the company likes it or not
This reminds me of something I was wondering. It seems like the Marvel & DC stuff is selling well but maybe Wizkids wants to hedge thier bets against those fans deciding to move on OR maybe they even want to make sure they have other licenses in case they loose the Marvel or DC licenses. Seems reasonable to me.
I watched Yu-gi-oh & liked the show okay but I doubt I'd get the clix. That said, I now own a set of GoW & Assassins Creed clix (minus the 1st Ezio) which I doubted I would get so if the Yu-gi-oh stuff ends up cheap enough maybe I will but I really don't even know where I'd put them at this point if someone GAVE them to me. I'm sure I'd find a place, I just don't know where.

Eh, I doubt that. The kind of mass liscencing we recently saw over the past month or two is more likly due to them pandering to various IP companies totting how good Heroclix has done is a search for more money (as a companies nature tends to do). Because you have to rememebr the liscensing agreements takes months to hammer out before they can announce it.
NECA doesn't see Heroclix as a set game like us players do, they see it as a vechical or tool to sell other games properties. They probably just got some new sales/CEO guy who said, "Hey, let's try selling the general game idea to a bunch of other places, using aspects of games we already have". I serriously doubt they considered how much of a slap to the face it is to the dedicated community of standard Heroclix.
While I'm not thrilled about the mass amount of non-superhero properties being mentioned, I can live with them. I just wish they would stick to more relavent properties when putting the Heroclix label on them. Only use it on properties you truely would like to see intermixed.

I don't see this as the truth. "We all know" no such thing.
Wizkids' vision of Heroclix is just different from yours and, admittedly, mine. I can't speak for you, but my vision of Heroclix is primarily as a tabletop superhero miniatures game.
Ziran and Wizkids, though, see it as a set of game mechanics that can be utilized to market multiple games, all using the same rules, to multiple groups of customers. Justin Ziran doesn't expect you or I to buy this product. He doesn't expect any of us to be buying every Heroclix product. He sees a big, top-selling game that isn't currently spending money on his products. Maybe a version of their game with Heroclix rules will sell. He works for a company and his job is to make money for that company. His job is not to cater to entitled players' sense of purity.
As far as Heroclix players complaining about rapid releases, that is a problem created in the minds of players. It is not a Wizkids problem. No one is making anybody be a completist but themselves. Ziran himself recently said he didn't expect Heroclix fans to buy every single Heroclix product.
I personally feel that yu-gi-oh clix will bring in the card game crowd and its going to be a problem at some venues, cause i used to play yugioh and i was fortunate enough not to have any of my cards stolen, but i have seen and heard stories of theft. Overall its going to be interesting if yugioh clix does take off there is a chance that it wont as well as them with the other mini sets being modern or not. This is probably all said before and if so sorry for repeating. I just want to say that i am not looking forward to both games blending.
It's a good move to make a new expansion for the company using a pre-existing set of rules rather than making a whole new set of rules altogether. The familiarity is a good way to transition players from one property to another, such as the Marvel & DC versions have done from the start.
The hate really comes from subjective opinion of the property itself and/or the audience this property brings to the game.
I'm not buying any, but that's because I burned out on that phase with Pokemon.
I am enjoying threads like these for learning about the mentality of the card-playing crowd since Magic the Gathering events afe getting revived at the LCS, and I'm learning it to help promote the store in general.
Favorite DC read: Demon Knights
Only Marvel read: Avengers Arena POWER GIRL OR BUST!!! <-- This summarizes my thoughts on the release schedule.
They are stinky and know nothing of basic hygiene.
They steal. They vandalize cars in the parking lot. And there are always at least one or a small group of them that are always standing near the back door of the building smoking pot.
Mechwarrior Clix and Heroclix players have had tshirts, calculators, food, dice, DVDs, comics and money stolen by YuGiOh players. Magic and Pokemon players have had prize support, food, cards and other items stolen by Yugioh players. Classic BattleTech and WH 40k players simply refuse to be around them at anytime.
WizKids needs to start listening to the players and start making more un-clixed characters like Sleepwalker and Jimmy Olsen.
I played Yugioh and I had a good group. The game just got old fast because you would buy a pack of cards to maybe get one good rare. I realized it was a waste of money and drifted towards heroclix. Heroclix you can buy a booster, and you can play all those figures and have fun. Yugioh you really can't. I have had stuff stolen and stuff turned in. This isn't just for Yugioh but anywhere. Bad people exist no matter where.
Now as a Yugioh fan, I am not sure how I feel about them in heroclix. They tried a dice game that went nowhere and I feel like this will be the same. I will collect Kaiba, Yugi and other characters. I just don't see it appealing to a lot of people. Yugioh is dead where we are at. It was a game about if you didn't spend the most money on it you lost. I just see this set allowing for other sets.
I have no idea how someone could get the above if they were actually making a reasonable attempt to understand the other side of the debate.
Yes, this is a better example.
To extend the analogy a bit further - some of the long-time fans may not have an issue with the boistrous new fans at all. These old-timers really just dislike the song because they don't feel it reflects the style of music they fell in love with. They're afraid that the song will be played every day on the radio and every concert they attend for the band. Because if it's really that popular, that's exactly what will happen.
I think there are a couple legitimate reasons for concern that have been brought up in the past couple of days, that have nothing at all with a feeling of being "elite".
If you're really going to go with this analogy, you need to consider what happens to your favorite band if it DOESN'T work to gain more fans. Sure, the band can continue to write songs that sound the same, in the style you love them for, but people who've listened and don't like the style, while they might appreciate that the band has talent, won't be interested in listening to more of the same. You'll be thrilled, because you're getting what you want, but the band wants to do bigger shows, instead of just playing at local bars.
It doesn't hurt for a band to try and branch out a bit now and again. Draw in new listeners, who might then come to like the older stuff as well. They're still the same band you loved, at the core.
