Relic Picked Up + Alter Ego

I did a search to try to find the answer to this, but I was impatient and unable to find one.

Rick Jones rolls a 5 or 6 picking up the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. Next turn, he uses his Alter Ego power to turn into Captain Marvel. Does Captain Marvel get the Gem?

Yes. When a character is replaced, it considered the same character as it was before. Anything on it (feats, relics, the gauntlet) and game effects pointed at it (an Outwitted power, Caiera's bodyguard effect) remain.
