Now, I understand that you're not doing Halo ActionClix, but they totally made a full set of Halo HeroClix, which released the exact same day as Superman, which I think is what the other guy was getting at.

The sculpts were mostly re-used from the ActionClix line, but they did add a handful of interesting new sculpts, of which only 2 were non-chases. I'm not against you keeping them off the list, but they are clearly labeled Heroclix and were released in 5 figure boosters, like a main set would be.

Only been following your Wilde series for a little, but MAN do you get some serious controversy in your threads, sir.

While Galactic Guardians does have its share of rehashes and reused sculpts, I will say that, in my humble opinion, the sculpts are some of the best I've seen. Only a few really rank as 'horrible' to me, and even the Generics have their place. The Namor registered as a little weird to me at first, but I really enjoy the finer details on the figure as well as the water effects. Doctor Strange and his Astral buddies are also a good sculpt. Nikki, Charlie-27, Martinex, some of the better sculpts in the set are merely commons and uncommons. Let's not even begin to go into how much I adore the sculpts for Magus and how accurate the UCT troopers and Raker look. The detail on the capes for the UCT guys is just divine.

Honestly, my only complaint in terms of sculpts for the Galactic Guardians set is, amazingly enough, one of my absolute favorite figures. 169 point Fantastic Four Dr. Doom. He's got such a beautiful sculpt...but he's not painted in the Future Foundation colors, which is, pretty clearly, the Doom they're going for.

I have to give a shout out to Hulk as well. While the rehashes were painful, Amadeus Cho (one of my favorite characters) had quite the sculpt, just perfect for the character. If he only had a Vespa I'd have paid twenty bucks for the Rare.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we'll probably go on disagreeing on things for a while. For instance, I did NOT like a lot of the figures from the Superman set. While the Aquaman and The Bat-Man were favorites, I personally did not like the looks of a lot of the guys. Hope and Mercy were poorly done, Lex Luthor looked completely out of place in the bright orange, and, let's face it, 001 Superman just looked like complete garbage. He's just standing there holding in a poop. Seriously.

While Cyborg Supes, Queen of Fables, and Black Adam have good sculpts, Doomsday just looks...ugh, and, to be perfectly honest, none of the Darkseid's I've seen have anywhere close to the level of detail or care I'd expect to see. His little 'Boom Tube' effect is sloppily done, and in all the cases I've seen, has either fallen completely off the figure, or bent in such horrible ways that it looks dumb. It's a cool concept, but poorly executed in my opinion.

Finally...I totally agree on Brave and the Bold, but you need to give the set a high five for the excellent Alter Ego figures. I really liked how the 'working man' figures looked, and I also quite enjoyed how the Alter Ego figures were 'just becoming' the hero. Batman's held on cape, Superman busting out with the classic S on his chest, Diana with her hair just being tied back, all good examples of attention to detail and great care. Also, the Duo Figs, with one single exception, were done very well, and also captured a good essence of the characters. Fire and Ice have an issue, but the rest all looked quite good, and I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

Also, Martian Manhunter being in the cookie chair. Let's face it, that was the best sculpt out of that set. At any rate, interesting article, and well thought out.

I'm amazed that GSX ranked so high on the setlists. Are there awesomesauce sculpts? Yes. Are there also about 10 "waiting for the bus" sculpts? Yes. Seems like the bus quotient would offset it a little bit.

Even so, I consider Halo a separate line, sorry. I never bought any of them either so I really can't give them a fair grade for anything. My gig is Marvel, DC, and INDY.

I really don't mind all the controversy. I just don't understand how it's worth it to get so angry and upset. That's not worth it, it's just not. And it wasn't an easy job either. As I explained (if those who are angry would take note) I spent a whole week, putting other jobs aside, to inspect and grade every single piece in my collection both in my hands and through pictures online. That's a good couple thousand pieces (as a guesstimate) and I even used a magnifying glass.

I also issued the challenge for others to do the same. Go and look, really look (not just toss names off the top of your head) and make yourself choose JUST TEN PIECES. See for yourself how easy it is and THEN come yell at me. No one has completed that challenge yet and until they do they can just yell into a vacuum.

Others have added well thought opinions instead of raging, and I thank them.

Okay, I'll take your challenge. It is a public forum for us to debate our opinions after all, and if you're asking for other people to post their lists anyway, might as well.

10: BB036 Martian Manhunter - I'm a huge fan of this sculpt. The individual cookies are all very carefully carved out and given a rough texture, along with the white streak to allow the cream to show. Manhunter might not be one of my favorite characters in the DCU, but this sculpt captures a very nice issue of JLI and has fantastic attention to detail.

9: SN075 Daredevil - This single piece made me really question what happened to sculpts in Brave and the Bold. I got into the game late, I mean, pretty darn late. I've been playing since Web of Spiderman, but the people I play with run clix from everything. The first time someone dropped this guy down in front of me, my jaw literally dropped. The detail on the statue, how carefully the vines creepily run up the statue, and, let's face it, the definition and paint scheme on the actual figure is just amazing.

8: JL051 Lobo - The Main Man of DCU really brought it home with this sculpt. The 'hog he rides around and the very careful attention to detail on his own form as well as the bike make this one of my favorite sculpts of all time. My buddy Morgan ran this figure against me once and I've been drooling over the sculpt ever since. I just have to stare at it every time that he drops it on the map.

7: CR057 Flash - You nailed it on the head with your comments on this sculpt. Absolutely to die for. I wouldn't count it as one of my 'top five', but that's mainly because of personal preference. I don't quite like the detail on the middle Flash. It just...strikes me as Zombie Flash more then anything and I'm not entirely pleased with it. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

6: HA037 Songbird - Best. Version. Of. The. Character. Ever. I can't stop lauding this sculpt. The hair looks great, the wings look great, the costume looks fantastic. They captured the character here, they really did. The Thunderbolt who's got it going on, Songbird really brings herself up in the world with this one.

5: GG019 Dr. Doom - Easily, EASILY one of my favorite sculpts from the set, if not my personal favorite. Doom just looks so...awesome perched up on that rock with the arc'd lightning blasting the precipice. He feels like Doom. From the segmented sections of the armor to the excellent rich Green they chose for the cloak and tunic. Gah, it's all great.

4: UL058 Ghost Rider - Many like the Fantastic Forces variant better, but this one really captures the character. The flaming tires, the excellent attention to detail on the chain and bike segments. All of it just adds together to make a wonderful sculpt and one of the best ones I've seen personally.

3: CA040 Captain America - Also known as Wall Cap, this one captures the essence of the character with both the removable mechanic and the insane attention to detail on the character and the rubble he's leaping off of. Just...just wow. I can't say anything else. I love this figure and I love this sculpt. I have to give it up for Wizkids, in the Captain America set, they captures Captain America and his villains quite well.

2: CA057 Invisible Woman - Okay, okay, enough with the Cap sculpts, I know, two in a row? I can't help it! Sue Storm-Richards looks fantastic (HURR DURR) in this one. The slightly fading invisibility and the wonderful invisible barrier make it look...just spot on for accuracy and sculpt goodness. Her HAIR, by Doom's Mighty Yogurt, her HAIR. It's spectacular!

1: GX053 Magneto - You were spot on. Probably the best sculpt in existence. I'm not going to just reiterate a point for no reason. It's phenomenal.

That's it. Hope you don't mind my choices guys.

CM222 Silver Surfer - Being an LE, Mr. Radd obviously doesn't belong in your list, but I do think he's worth honorable mention. The chrome treatment, which has only ever graced two other figures, transformed this extremely simplistic figure into an eye-catching thing of beauty that still has comparatively few rivals.

OR006 Phantom Lady - Phantom Lady was not the first translucent figure, nor even the first partially translucent... but I believe she was the highwater mark for that particular trick. The effect of the vertical dissolve was striking.

FF048 Iron Fist - You alluded to the quality of the Streetfighter set, which I attribute to the gorgeous motion effects. I can think of no figure sporting such an effort beforehand, or at least none that gelled as well. To some extent I think of the SF set as the descendant of that FF sculpt.

AN050 Superman - Here we have a figure that both captures a stirring image (as does the Flashes) and is enhanced by the presence of extraneous material in the sculpture. To my mind it is the best of both subgroups. As a note of interest, is he still the only figure sporting something purely symbolic on the dial rather than terrain/victims/constructs/special effects?

IH033 Tiger Shark - It's the water that stands out to me for Tiger Shark. It's not the first time we've seen water used, but it far outstrips the others and brings to life the idea of an aquatic character far better than say... a tentacle. Some folks do not care for figures that carry terrain about the battlefield with them, but this usage has such a natural feel to it that I've never heard the kind of complaints that accompany Bane or Black Adam.

All in all, nicely written. While your choices may not be the ones I'd have made, the logic is sound. Admittedly it took me a while to get over the shock of Armor Wars' omission, but looking back, it had an awful lot of D-rank drek to water down those terrific suits.
Excellent discussion points! I definitely agree with the inclusion of FF Iron Fist.
Yeah... well... now his body's fine, but his mind is gone.

Excellent effort. You did more than just snarl and throw names, you gave me exaclty why you liked them so much and why they are the best to you. That's how it's done. I'm sticking with what I wrote for my own reasons and the style of my approach, but I completely appreciate this response!

I too have chosen to take up your challenge. Ultimately I found I could not pare the results down to a Top Ten that truly captured the things I look for in sculpture. So instead I offer a Top Fifteen featuring a number of shared slots.

10) CR022 Dawnstar - I like Dawnstar for the simplicity and effectiveness of her execution. The unfurling wings and overall pose capture the illusion of flight well (something which few figures managed in that period) but where wings tend to dominate a typical sculpt, this one retains a nice level of detail right down to the lacing.

9) MU038 Omega Red - Also rather understated, Omega Red features an aggressive pose, a bit of flavorful terrain and a wide open stance that shows off the tentacles to great effect. It simply looks intimidating, enough so that at least for me he garners far more attention than he's worth in play.

8) CD057 Clayface - I actually prefer the grey paint of the mailaway Clayface, but even in brown this is just wonderful. The assymetry and texture appeals to me and its an excellent use of battlefield debris (other attempts in this period didn't turn out nearly so well). I may also have a soft spot for the goop man.

7) SF011 Fei Long/HA037 Songbird - Here we get into the handful of pieces where, when I put them on the table, newer players are just floored. Personally I consider these two the high water mark of energy effects below the SR level. I won't repeat the comments on Songbird, but Fei Long is so nearly perfect that I can forgive the beefiness of his neck. Plus... it's Bruce Lee in Heroclix.

6) Dr. Strange - A complex pose that exactly captures the image I hold in my head of Stephen Strange. The astral projection may not be the first (Shadow King) or even the most complex (Akuma), but it looks good without detracting from other detail... in this case the floating lotus position elegantly framed by his cape. A brilliant overall package.

5) AV055 Hulk - There's something to be said for scale. Many of the giants look good, but not this good and few capture a sense of motion as well as this, which even uses the damage to the terrain to highlight his bounding stride. The overall detail is striking and closely resembles specific scenes from the source material, always a plus.

4) LG096 Green Lantern/WS Green Goblin - Both of these pieces have been discussed elsewhere. The selling point for me is that they come to us straight out of comic panels, with an exacting level of detail. A little bit of everything that makes earlier sculpts stand out (terrain, energy effects, wind effects) all gel beautifully here.

3) AA058 Chang Tzu/CA050 Modok - The giant heads are simply striking, Modok because of his mass and girth, Chang Tzu because of the detail heaped upon a relatively obscure character. Both make my top tier because simply leaving them on the table causes passersby to stop and ask questions about Heroclix. In a game that focuses on sculpture, that cannot be overlooked.

2) GX053 Magneto/GX048 Storm - The shackles simply came off for these Super Rares. Magneto takes something of a brute force approach to grandeur, looking more like a diorama than a playing piece (something which I've also said of AV Hulk). I actually prefer Storm's delicate lines. The sculpt is much simpler but achieves a similarly beautiful effect and doesn't have the strangely elongated neck of Magneto.

1) AN032 Superman/CA053 Baron Strucker - Probably a surprising choice... These two go a step beyond being great sculptures, they make teams look better and by extension, the whole game. I suppose the best term for them would be inspirational... which is rather appropriate considering that both sculpts feature purely symbolic elements. Of the two, I credit my preference for Superman to the choice of a darker hue of red more in keeping with the Golden Age than anything in modern comics.

I ditto on AV Hulk. Think it may be the best size, detail and designed sculpt yet, but SI Doom gives it a run for it's money, and HOT Captain America is the best detailed sculpt, and CR Earth 2 Superman and WOS Spiderman from WOS Brick, are also have the desirable size in my opinion.

My picks are of course indicative of how I weigh and order different elements of the overall package. It sounds like you may place a bit more emphasis on scale than I do... and I may place a bit more emphasis on preserving bodily proportions. I've always felt that Cap, Supes and Spidey looked a bit odd. Cap is strangely flat, Supes' face looks like so much Play-Doh and Spidey's proportions (while true to the comic cover) are strangely deformed. Personally I find that a bit offputting, enough that they all fall into say... my top 50 at best. But hey, we're talking aesthetics, are we not? Outside of course curricula in artistic interpretation there's no right answer.

I place most emphasis on size. I just think the smaller sized sculpts are unappealing since for one they are hard to see, and therefore hard to appreciate any detail if they had any, and the smaller sculpts do not match the size of most figures we seen in AV-HOT, or even many in WOS. Wizkids actually generated more interest when they started making sculpts larger and/or thicker, especially in AA, and even started to advertise this in a Crisis Promo Poster at one time, and they continued with nice size sculpts all the way through HOT, and then started to downsize. I want the size to be that of CR Earth 2 Superman or SI Doom, etc. I also feel the hand sculpts had more detai in the bodies.

Yes, it's all subjective, but I'm kinda shocked
at Supergirl and this Wonder Woman on any
'best of' list. If any Wonder Woman, I would think
it would be the Kingdom Come Armored version.

To each his own...
