Build a set challenge! Gatecrashers! Part 3
You've seen the commons. You've seen the uncommons. Now it's time to get blown away by the rares! Since I was challenged to build a set myself, I've been digging for pieces that would make this set rock. I purposely avoided the repeats that some have seen over and over. No Wolverine, no Spider-Man and no Hulk either. Some have really liked this set build, some had input to offer, and others debate. Let's see what you have to say about these!

So let's set this thing off with a bang shall we? The first person I'm listing here hasn't seen a dial since Clobberin' Time and she is way overdue! This is one of my personal favorite X-villains. Straight from the Mojoverse I give you....

Mystical Traveler: Spiral may use phasing/teleport. When Spiral uses Charge or Running Shot, Spiral ignores all terrain and figures for movement.
Did you say my name?: Spiral may use Running Shot and Charge.
I can handle all of you!: Spiral may us Pulsewave and Quake
Mystical Dancer: Spiral may use Probability Control and Shape Change

The first time they made her they stuck with a BCF freak who was amongst the first with flurry and BCF as a combo. That was cool, but only half of the actual character. Spiral is a very good spellcaster along with being able to move better as a teleporter than Nightcrawler could have dreamed. Every trick on this dial simulates the crafty and deadly ways of Spiral.

Deadly touch: Mojo has Poison. Damage from Mojo's poison is penetrating damage
I'm the Director!: Mojo may use Phasing Teleport and Mind Control. Mojo suffers no damage penalty from using Mind Control on figures costed 200 points or less.
Your attack is all wrong!: Mojo may use Toughness and Mastermind
ACTION!: Mojo may use Outwit and Perplex

And what would Spiral be without Mojo? I listed Mojo as a dual-base piece because of his long mechanical spider carriage thing. Mojo's touch has been known to cause loss of life (a wither and die effect). That's why the permanent and nasty case of penetrating poison. Because of how his dial is arranged, he's a little chaotic. You just never know what he's going to do.

Organic Steel: Colossus possesses Super Strength and cannot be knocked back.
Hands off my sister!: If Colossus is within 3 spaces of a friendly figure named Magik, Colossus is +1 to attack if not affected by this trait already.
NYET! You will not win!: Colossus possesses Charge and Plasticity.

If you look back at the other parts of this see, you will see Magik among the uncommons. Now you can play this brother and sister team like never before. Note the plasticity? You think it's easy to get out of this guy's grip? Not now it isn't. This version of Colossus gives you some serious action. The fact his sister can transport him isn't bad either. I have him the "interdimensional" keyword because he went with his sister to help her in Belasco's realm. He's been to a few others too. Hope you've been checking out what kind of theme teams you can build with Interdimensional!

Korvus is simple and the last one missing from Starjammers that I wanted to do. His range simulates energy bolts from the Phoenix Sword, but I don't overpower him in order to balance out the mega power available for Starjammers already. See the uncommons!

Shiar Armor: Deathbird possesses Toughness

We haven't seen Deathbird in far too long. You might wonder why she has any psychic blast. Don't forget that she has expanding lances she can fire at short range. They're every bit as sharp as her claws, able to go through steel. After that I would expect that she'll be in up close combat and going BCF on people.

By eye contact: Sauron posseses Mind Control but may only use it adjacent to his targets.

Yet another long overdue character. Updating him means bring up that the Weapon X program made it so he could fire life energy at people from his hands. He's also gone "fire breathing" before. So the three range makes more sense than you might realize. This makes a Sauron a great combatant. He gets a little bit of perplex and outwit because he is a scientist and pretty crafty.

Healing Factor: When regeneration shows on Lady Deathstrike's dial, she may use it as a free action.
Adamantium Cyborg: Lady Deathstrike possesses Super Strength and BCF

While we're hitting characters that are overdue, this one is too. Note that the word Adamantium is on her card. Remember Silver Samurai's wording in the commons? This is where that takes effect. Her healing effect mimics an age old feat card that people hated with Wolverine. Lady Deathstrike has plasticity because of her extending and strange cyborg body. Same reason for shape change. For her short dial, I think you'll find her pretty dangerous.

Omniversal Majestrix: Saturnyne may target figures with her powers anywhere on the map. This trait ignores effects of hindering terrain or stealth.
Opal Lunar Saturnyne: Saturnyne possesses Leadership, Outwit, Perplex, and Probability Control

At some point, if you haven't already, you're going to accuse me of making the British Invasion. But Saturnyne would be worth making. She's not as dangerous as Arcade, but her support to an interdimensional team is worth noting. Saturnyne always manipulated from the background, but if you can reach her, she's easy to take out. And she does have friends....

Minion: If a friendly figure named Saturnyne is on the map, Avant Guard possesses Indomitable

And these are Saturnyne's "friends". These guys appear as suited gentlemen in bowler hats with umbrellas. Those umbrellas have a serious of nasty tricks and some decent firepower. I didn't go for the nasty trick of de-evolution they caused in the books. That way they could stay round costed minions to fill in your force. They'll be good to get in the way of your opponents.

Truly Savage: Conan ignores Mind Control

Who hasn't wanted to see this guy? I've seen lots of dials made for Conan and I aimed in the general middle of what I saw. This Conan hits right at the heart of a fearless "chop them to bits" kind of guy. And before someone points out (again) that they don't like powers like BCF and CCE together, I remind of you this: OUTWIT. It's called options people. Conan has more than one way to fight. If you outwit him, you better make a good choice.

Zero Energy: Jack of Hearts possesses Force Blast and Energy Explosion

Ahh, the Jack of Hearts. I can't say I cared for how he was made the first time around. Now we give him two team abilities and powers that reflect that "zero energy" well. It's not a long dial, but it's a very combative one.

Fly-by attacker: Northstar possesses Hypersonic Speed and Flurry. After Northstar has rolled an attack on an opposing figure using hypersonic speed, he may roll an attack on another opposing figure along his movement as a free action.
High speed punches: Instead of his normal attack with HSS; with a successful attack, Northstar may rold 1D6 and deal the result as damage instead. If Northstar uses this ability, his movement ends.

And we end the Rares with a nice surprise, Northstar! I bet you were wondering where the hypersonic speed was at in this set. Well, here it is. This dial is an aggressive one. Northstar can pull off two attacks on two different targets along his movement path (not unheard of). But late dial, he can really unleash his rage on someone, mimicking BCF in the process. Northstar is a great way to leave off the rares before I bring you what I made for super rares! So I hope you enjoyed these! Stay tuned next week for super rares that will blow your socks off and put your sneakers in the next county!

Conan should never drop below a 10 attack, have a longer dial, and maybe even be indomitable.

Otherwise, nice dials.

Great dials.

The Lady Deathstrike "Adamantium Cyborg" power feels like it should contain the Caiera wording "When she uses Blades/Claws/Fangs while holding an object, add 1 to the d6 roll, then remove that object from the game." But that's not a real complaint, that's more of a "I love that modification" comment. Great job.

Yeah I figure I'm going to catch it a bit over Conan. Fair enough, because of Conan's popularity and how many ways people want to see him totally powered out. I know I took a risk there.

I like the Conan. I'd give him BCF on the first 4 clicks though.

And, instead of making him immune to Mind Control I'd give him +1 to his defense against mind control and then give him an SP such that, if a Mind Control attempts fails, he may be placed adjacent to that character, if not already adjacent, and given a free Close Combat Attack.

I love your concepts but think some of your costs are very low.

Spiral, for instance, would be devastating at that point cost. I think she should easily be a 250+ point figure.

The use of 19 and 20 defense values is a little high, too. A 19+ can change a game where the average figure has only a 35% or lower chance to hit with an attack it can only make once every three turns.

Galactus has a 20 only at his 600 point value or higher.

Well, I don't think I'm too far off if you consider some of these pieces for who they were and there are more than a few pieces with 20 and 19 defenses that can be used for example. Green Lantern, Superman, Hulk, Stardust just for a few well knowns. It's not perfect though, I know that. I had to try and come up with something of a pattern for my points while some that were really sick had to be way high and then it was speculation on how many points it would take to break even against them. Not easy.
