No, hiding in the bushes is clearly the only way to utilize stealth. Little known fact - Invisible Woman was originally named Shrub Lass, and in the first few issues of FF, she was constantly peeping out of leafy plants.
Why are people hating on this figure? In the right players hands he can increase the odds significantly. For 75pt you get Prob, Mind Control, Super Senses @ 17D and a Special that grants him and X-Men within 4 squares Shape Change, all on his first Clix. He is 100% support as he should be. With the right team your opponents will have to make hard choices about who to target and will be very frustrated and open to attacks when they fail to target/hit anyone. He is versatile for the points and as long as you position him advantageously he will pay for himself and then some.
Also, Professor X is a freaking top tier Telepath, so why wouldn't he have super senses or stealth? He could cause an enemy to quickly hesitate and miss by flashing a traumatic memory in their mind or disappear himself completely with misdirection. Just sayin.
Just used this Prof X along with FF Wolverine, Cyclops, and Rogue vs WoL Larfleeze, Star Sapphire, and Saint Walker, then WoL Sinestro and Indigo-1 and the X-men beat the pants off both teams. Rogue carted Xavier around and his Shapechange special power helped them out in both games. At 300pts, I also had a LOT of prob control.
This Professor is my third favorite figure in this set (after Rogue and Wolverine), but there's a huge decline after those three (who are all really good, in my opinion). Professor gives me two things. One, a cheap Illuminati piece which opens up options for smaller point games. Two, he can give Zenhattan the one freaking defense power that he doesn't already have, plus an extra probability control to boot. Want to hit Doc when he's tokened? Let me miss shape change, then you hit three times in a row, me miss on super senses, and finally miss on an impervious roll that succeeds on a a 4-6. If you hit him once, I think you deserve the win and should buy a lotto ticket that night.
By far one of the best pieces out of the fast forces GSX set. The shape change is incredibly handy and partnered up with prob control to make sure your hits stick and mind control in desperate situations.....just overall a really nice package. Will be a staple in my xmen and illuminati teams.
1st time I played him he along with his X-men died horribly. Then last week I played him against 4 other players in a huge battle royal game and he along with the X-men kicked butt! All of his rolls made it! In fact he only took damage because I pushed him for a final attack. It was a timed match. He also hilariously mind controlled Master Chief (new player we allowed to play his Halo guys), twice killing his buds. Then Charles mind controlled Cardinal Raker to B/C/F on Magus who had been relying on mastermind to keep him alive. Raker rolls a 6, kills Magus. The best part, Magus couldn't use Mastermind, the guy tried until I pointed out he was friendly to me during the attack.
"Telepathic Confusion: Professor X and friendly characters within 4 squares that share a keyword with Professor X can use Shape Change. If a .. blah blah blah."
It would seem that it does not require line of sight but the guys I usually play with like to think it does. Any thoughts?
The next team I want to play. 100 pointr fantastic with brilliant tactican, namor 100 and prof here. Lands me at 295 point total in golden age. Should be fun.
Professor X only has 5 clicks of life, but 3 of them allows him and any members within 4 squares of him can use Shapechange (no mention if made of LOF being a requirement). Couple that with PC and you have quite an irritation to attacking rollers. He also has a click of perplex which is always helpful and 3 clicks of super senses (An attack that hits Professor X can be evaded by rolling shapechange, super senses AND probability -- CRAZY!) . Keep the Prof out of harm's way and watch him frustrate your opponents. A very good support character.
