As alien as the phrase "Liefeld is saving this book" sounds to me, I can't disagree with it being kinda crap from issue 1. I picked up issue 1 of about 1/3 of the New 52, and Savage Hawkman was one I dropped straight away.

That said, I'm still excited to get this click. He's no Brightest Day Hawkgirl, but I still look forward to having him rain violence down upon my foes from atop the frozen peaks of Jotunheim!

Idk why they didn't make a full set for the New52 JL.. I would have bought a brick of this set.

IMO, Joe Bennet (the interior artist) is the only saving grace that Hawkman has right now. I do think Liefeld is doing a better job than Daniels, but not by much and that isn't high praise to begin with.
