Just got back from a tournament for Jane Foster. It was at the venue I play at twice a week. We were supposed to have a booster draft but since the UPS shipment didn't arrive we had to draft from figures the store had. That's fine except they decided to waive the house rule of no duplicates since it was a draft still. Enter the guy who never shows up unless there's a big LE on the line. We had to draft 4 nons... his picks? 3 Experience Hawkeyes. He ended up w/ a team of 3 Hawkeyes, two Mandroid Armors, a paramedic, a con artist, a Black Panther and a Hawk. I just think it's really lame that they let him play three freaking Hawkeyes. I had a chance to beat him in the finals and played him close despite the fact that I didn't have duplicate characters on my team. He ended up winning the Jane Foster of course. I don't care about the figure. I think Jane Foster is kind of overrated. What irks me is that A) the store allowed people to play dupes, B) this guy was cheap enough to play three Hawkeyes and C) none of the "regulars" from our store won the big prize. I don't want this to turn into a discussion of cheese versus not cheese, I'm just frustrated and need to vent...

A) Yes Dup's are bad but you should of talked about it before hand. They might of reversed the Decision.
B) These people take the fun out of the game. Which is the reason why there should be a no dup's rule.
C) Thats always a chance you take. I occasionally go to other stores. I can just imagine when I walk in to play. I dont play cheesy or anything but I am a good player.
Well you should have taken some TK and a piece with invulnerability and base the guy... Just keep your guy out of outwit and smash the hawkeyes to nothing. If you coulden't have tought of that before then you should think of changing teams or stop playing...
Nah sorry I said that but really it's quiet simple to smash them. Especialy since they all depend on range.
A) I haven't waived the Dupes. My players never see a reason to play more than one of the same character. I suppose if somebody were to pull the 3 Hawkeye trick, I might just have to put it in place.
B) 3 Hawkeyes is a bit ridiculous. Legal but ridiculous. As far as "crushing" them goes, basing 3 Hawkeyes (with TK helping) is easier said than done especially with an expensive a fig with Impervious.
C) Just cuz they are local doesn't guarantee them the win. I can feel for them since it was a big prize and I tend to cheer for the "home team" but they've got to win to take the prize.

A) the store allowed people to play dupes: So everybody had the same opportunity, no? Did you just sit there until it was his turn to pick a figure gain & leave those Hawkeyes up for grabs? Exactly how was the drafting done?
B) this guy was cheap enough to play three Hawkeyes: see above
C) none of the "regulars" from our store won the big prize: the whole tourney wasn't crafted so the regulars would have a monopoly on their LEs. It's meant to attract new player. He was a tough opponent? Then get better!
'Nuff Said!
I don't have 65+ positive feedback (325+ on eBay) because I stink! My Trading Thread has non's, U's & LE's from CD, AW, Icons, FF, Legacy & more! My eBay Sales has new clix & sets listed every Sunday!

Next time try to be prepared.
A 3 Hawkeye setup is not unbeatable. But the answer isn't as cookie cutter as you make it.
A good player will make it near impossible to automatically "keep your guy out of Outwit." And Invulnerabilty only goes so far against 5 damage from range from 2 other figures. In fact, if your strategy is just to throw up an Invuln figures, you've just taken the bait a good player has laid out.
If you think that it's ever that simple maybe you should play some better players.
We have some players just like that guy up here and would and could use multi Firelords and Ult Hawkeyes if they could with multi TK. We simply just razz them until they don't want to play anymore.
Now before everybody goes off and says that's not fair cuz it's tourney legal, hold on.
We don't enjoy playing turtles (although we will) and we don't enjoy playing dupe teams (although we will). It's when you do it on a consistent basis, it ruins the fun for everybody and in that sense do we stand up on this particular issue and verbally let them know that everybody disapproves and do not enjoy them being there. We offer solutions for them (maybe instead of a V ult hawkeye use regular Hawkeye from CT) if they insist on Hawkeyes if it's their fave.
Ultimately though, it takes a weak person to use that type of scheme to win. Take solace. No team is unbeatable. It is dice after all. Just know that they're not very good at the game, very one-dimensional and that in any other setting you'd probably school the guy 9 out of 10.
I feel for you brother. Be more outspoken about these types of things. It's the only way to get things done at venues. Just do it in a civil manner and usually, that's what will happen.

This guy's not a new player. He just only shows up when there are good LEs on the line. He doesn't play for the enjoyment of the game. He plays to win LEs and sell them to his friends. The drafting was done by everyone picking a number going up and back. Everyone else had a chance to pick a Hawkeye and most everyone else did pick A Hawkeye. They didn't pick THREE Hawkeyes b/c they all know that's completely lame.

Yeah I was waiting for the generic "You must #### or not know how to play" bs. I know what I'm doing. I know how to play the game. The problem w/ basing his figures? We ended up on the Indy map and he was on the side behind the building, where he stayed for most of the game. It didn't help that he didn't miss an attack roll all game (in fact the only roll he missed was a healing roll). I did have TK and I did base him. However, every time I based him he seemed to get away. For example I had a Morlock Leader in base w/ him and he rolls doubles. Now what strategy would you use to combat that. I don't care if you agree w/ me or not, but don't talk down to me. I'm pretty confident in my abilities, I'm just not as cut-throat as some people and I think it's lame that this guy had to use three Hawkeyes to win. Also there were not a lot of heavy hitters to draft from. I think a Rookie Absorbing Man and a Anaconda were the best out there. With the point limit we had, I went for lower point BCF figures rather than one expensive close combat guy.

Oh me and one of the other regulars let it be known that we thought it was #### that the "no dupes" rule was waived for this tourney. They argued that b/c it was a draft, it was the same as a sealed booster and people could end up w/ more than one of the same figure. I still don't buy that b/c unlike a sealed event, you KNEW what figures you were getting.

B/c there were about 15 E Hawkeyes in the draft pool. Like I said, just about everyone else took one, this guy took three and there were still some left..
