this is kind of off topic but i cant think of any marvel characters that are catholic at the moment.so i want to know if hellboy is catholic. he usually carries around a crucifix with him but i highly constitute that as being of the catholic faith(seeing how he carries items from other religions). just curious, hope someone can answer that for me.

Well my guess on that Gabe (and I'll be honest I haven't read that much Hellboy) is that he carries those relgious items for the same reason that a vampire hunter would; the those items of faith are a kind of weakness to some of the creatures he fights. Of course I could be wrong, and probally am, so if someone wants to give a better/the right anwser, go right on ahead.
Yeah, the religious icons that the BPRD guys carry are more general purpose tools (think of them as faith grenades) than they are statements of any kind of belief. I also think that Hellboy might carry around a couple to remind himself what he's *not* (hard to imagine a true prince of hell toting around that much holy water). When they're working in areas where the Christian paradigm doesn't dominate, they change tactics to fit the mission (a cross won't do jack to an Asian vampire, for example).
Marvel did a comic book on the life of Pope John Paul II and St. Francis of Assisi back in the '80s. Don't get any more Catholic than them. Whether they were 616 or not is left up to the individual reader, I suppose (personally, I find the idea of Ultimate Pope to be pretty sweet - try to imagine what his outfit would look like)...
yeah, Brock was ambushed by the symbiote in church (he was praying because he was contemplating suicide). The first time he attacked Spidey he assumed the form of a priest and tied him up in a bell tower as well. Doubt the symbiote is Catholic though.
William Stryker probably was something like Southern Baptist, but he was Christian.
Which characters are Jewish? Shadowcat's the only one I remember.
Sasquatch is Jewish.
Sabra (she was an X-man for about a minute) is Jewish.
Apparently Ben Grimm, the ever-lovin' blue eyed Thing is apparently Jewish now. I don't know if he was retconned into being it or if it never came up before.

Anybody remember the Herolympics thread on this site? Good times.

Naw, Benjy's been Jewish forever. I think his "Jewishness" might even predate that of Kitty.
Just thought of another Catholic- Black Widow! In Marvel Knights (I think it was issue #1) she was at confession, which is how she bumped into Dagger. She did admit that it was a very long time since her last confession though.
Punisher #30, Mike Baron's run. My favorite issue in the whole series. He goes to confession regularly.
Bushwacker didn't cut it as a priest, but is probably still faithful.
Silver Dagger is a renegade priest who hunts sinners like Doctor Strange and Werewolf By Night. I think he's too far off his rocker to ask forgiveness, though.
I've never read it, but didn't Infinity Crusade divide the Marvel heroes into believers and non-believers? Might be a good place to look.
*Dr. Mid-Nite (Pieter Cross) has really had his Catholicism played up over the last year. Interestingly in the latest storyline there are indications - based upon things in McNider's home - that the original Dr. Mid-Nite was Catholic as well.
*Huntress is, of course, Catholic. Once again, like Frank, I think it's because Italian-American automatically equates to Catholic. :P
*Wes Dodds (GA Sandman) admits that he was raised Catholic (father's side) but doesn't practice anymore (this was in his Vertigo series).
Still not giving up on Someday. "Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."
