A semi-serious personal problem that actually does involve heroclix.
Im not a loud mouth who said the wrong thing in the bar and got my personal manhood injured, nor am I an attractive girl who took the blue pill instead of the red one, and I dont have a "Fast Food Girlfriend"...My problem is this...
Ive been in the game since IC. I have the MUST HAVEs. Nightcrawler, KC Supes, Surfer, Green Lantern, but Galactus cuz I was nice to a kid and gave him mine cuz my friend had one (By gave I sold it to him for Wizkids price plus admission for 1 day badge.)
Now here is my problem. Im a college student I was just allowed into a program that will have me spend 2 weeks in Japan. Im going. Thats for sure, but its over $3,000 for the trip. I work 3 jobs, a full time student, with 2 other hobbies outside of heroclix. This is a once in a life time trip and Im considering selling my heroclix to help me go. Keep in mind Im not quiting but just selling the majority of my collection. Im not sure if I should or not though. One of my friends (who I got in the game and has a collection bigger then mine) is telling me not to but besides the trip, Japan alone is more expensive. (The Dollar is worth more then the Yen but they charge more yen.)
What do you guys think I should do?
I may be a Southern Deep Space Hyper Chicken...But I know when Im Finger-Licked...

I may get warning points for this, don't do something you are really going to regret later
Put off buying new HC for a bit to finance your trip, scrimp on everything (give up cigs if applicable, alcohol especially). Selling off things that are important to you will just leave trying to buy it again later (at a greatly increased cost)
And yes, from what friends have told me, Japan is FREAKING expensive. Drop your caloric intake for a bit to get used to a lighter diet

I dont smoke and only drink with my friends at a bar that my friend works at ($3 for 8 shots or nothing if I tip well). I drive a gas guzzler in a high gas price area. (2.39 a gallon)

Iceman425 and I both worked and lived in Tokyo for two years. If you have to sell your testes, man, do it. It is EXTREMELY expensive (the equivalent of 7 dollars for a big mac meal, and 25-30 dollars for a cd of a popular band) and you might actually have to sell your mom, but its SO worth it.
They do sell Clix in Japan. If you go I can tell you where. That actually where I learned to play (Iceman425 got me hooked). However one booster is roughly the equivalent of 11 dollars, and I spent thousands...
The dollar is still stronger than the Yen, yes. However its getting weaker. It was 135 yen (ii-hyaku san-ju-go-en) to the dollar when I first got there. When I left it was around 115-116 to the dollar and getting stronger.
GO GO GO.
PM me if you do, I will tell you some of the places to go to save a yen or two.
Gambatte, yo!!!

I think you need to ask yourself- are your 'must haves' really must haves? Because if they are, then you're out of balance.
Sure it's great to have those figures, but are they really worth it? You can certainly win without them. There are definitely more important things in life, and I don't think you'll regret parting with them. And besides, you've already played with them I assume, so at least you got some time with them. You might not get those figures ever again, but so what? You can still enjoy the game without them.
I say, sell off all your U's and LEs and maybe some high-end REVs. You can still play with just nons, and team-building will just become more of a challenge (and you might find yourself using figures that you never thought you'd use too!).
If I had the chance to go and actually learn something I'd do it in a heartbeat. I've dropped HC before and picked it up again it's not as hard as you'd think.
Go to Japan, I need to live vicariously through you....
"I only eat things that I track and kill with my sling. Yesterday I did fling true and fell three Hot Pockets and a Spiderman Lunchable."
Japan is just like everywhere else. If you wanna do it cheap, you can do it cheap. That said, what on earth does the program supply for three grand? I just got back from spending ten days there and I didn't crack the $2000 mark. And that includes round trip plane fare, accomodations at decent hotels, rail passes, lift tickets, and an absurd amount of shopping and dining out.
That said, I wouldn't exactly call it "once in a lifetime". If you want to keep your stuff, just save up and head over there during one of your semester breaks. If you're even remotely respectable looking, you can finance an entire summer by teaching English 20 hours a week while you're over there (you might even come out ahead).
And don't bother trying to import figures to Japan thinking you'll get more money there. The US and European markets are a lot bigger, and you'll spend the entire trip trying to find some shop in a basement on a side street in Shibuya that *might* be willing to buy them from you.

it was strange. Clix sold like crazy there, and they even gave out rules and PAC in japanese, but Scott and I could never FIND anyone who played the game.
There were a couple of places in Shinjuku that bought and sold singles. I think its still open as well. I also think that they would pay more than we would, however, I wouldnt bank on it.
Sell your clix dude. If you do, I promise I will GIVE you all my extra non's and your pick of what U's I still have doubles of when you get back. I give you my WORD. Just go. I have friends in and around Tokyo who could help you out as well. JUST GO.
