Star Trek: Enterprise gets canceled, and they've only got a half dozen episodes left in the season. The producers quickly realize that they can't possibly tie up the entire storyline in those episodes, and since all the fans hated thier silly 'Temporal Cold War', what's the point in finishing it anyway?
So they've dumped the whole thing, and created a storyline that takes place in the past of the infamous Mirror, Mirror Universe from the original series. Even the opening credits are different, and reflect the twisted new history that took place there. IMHO, it's awsome. Unfortunately, it's a case of too little, too late. Most Trek fans aren't watching anymore, so they aren't even aware that this is what the show's remaining episodes have been converted to.
I can't really blame them for going this route? They've got nothing to lose, so why not go out with a bang? Do some really memorable final episodes so that we'll clamor for yet another series after this one.
I gave up on Enterprise early on. I did catch the Mirror Universe episode this weekend totally by accident. It was a good show, I'll be looking for part 2 next weekend.
Your right, it's too little too late but at least going out big!
Give up? And you call yourself a Trekkie? Meh, go and watch some more Buffy, traitor.
Thick and thin, good and bad, I stuck with Enterprise. That's what it takes to be a Trekkie...I didn't miss a single show. People like you, j-pop, doomed Star Trek.
I watched the whole first season of Enterprise, then had to drop watching due to graduate school, etc. I have just recently tuned in for the last few episodes. The Mirror Universe one ROCKED! I guess I am back for the end of the series, but then again I might wind up buying the seasons on DVD as they come out. Bummer that Enterprise didn't last as long as TNG. I thought it was better than most of DS9 and all of Voyager (IMO to date the sorriest excuse for a Star Trek series.) Farewell, Enterprise. We hardly knew ye... (cue grand finale music from closing scenes of "Wrath of Khan.")

Thanks a lot.
Dude, lay off. I'm a Trek fan too, but I'm also a fan of good television. I watched Enterprise through its first season and for most of the second, and it pains me to say that from where I sat those two ideals were not one in the same.
Now, if you think that Enterprise was worth toughing your way through the bad stuff in order to get to the quality episodes, more power to ya. But that's no excuse to lash out at people for expressing opinions different from yours. After all, it takes all kinds, and isn't that what the central message of Star Trek is?
Star Trek getting canceled has as much to do with UPN as it does with the show.
Many critics said that the current season (4) was a turning point for Enterprise, and praised a lot of the episodes.
Enterprise also still does better than competing shows on Sci-Fi in the same time slot. But where Sci-Fi not only renewed Stargate, but also spun it off to 'Atlantis', UPN is pulling the plug on Enterprise.
However, look at past treks. Both The Next Generation and Deep Space 9 took a couple seasons to get their footing (DS9 is IMHO the best Trek, and it didn't get good until at least season 4). And Voyager never got good at all, and that lasted 7 seasons.
Its too bad for Enterprise, its a show with real promise that just found its footing too late.
It doesn't help that its on UPN, possibly the worst station for show longevity. I frankly don't know why anyone will bother to watch anything on UPN next season, since they've pretty much proven that they'll dump most of their shows after a season or 2.

Yes, Trek encourages encompassing thinking, independent of those that seek to control them.
My point in my post was: if us Trekkies were to clamor for a better or new show, we'd need to back it up with the ratings. We cant go off and whine how Enterprise sucks if you HAVE NOT been watching the episodes...then the ratings plummet and we still whine. Paramount and UPN are going to say...what ratings, what fanbase?
So there...our own ilk doomed the show...save for me and my pal.
I watched every episode of Enterprise. Voyager was horrible most of the time but was on air for a long time, because the fans watched it. Enterprise was done in before it started because some "trekkies" prejudged a "throwback" episode. Lot's of whining about "The ship souldn't look like that!" or "Klingons weren't encountered then!" If the fans had given it a fair chance Enterprise would still be around.
I've re-read my post (I encourage you KD to do the same). I see no mention of my being a Trekkie. I see no mention that I ever watched an episode or movie of Star Trek prior to Enterprise. (I do like a good sci-fi story though. The Mirror Universe episode was one, the early Enterprise episodes were not.)
I post on the HCR, I open myself for criticism I accept that. I just want to encourage you to be careful with your assumptions when you do the criticizing. You do know what they say about assumptions don't you?
Pleasure meeting you on the realms.

It's good to hear that I'm not alone. I know what I didn't like about ST: Enterprise, but what about the rest of you? What was it about the show that you didn't like? Was it the continuity issues? Was it the Temporal Cold War saga? Was it the Xindi saga? Maybe it was somthing entirely different? Inquiring minds want to know.
for me, hell, i even enjoyed the Temporal Cold War thing, it was just a different spin on things. granted it went on 6 months too long, it could've wrapped up midway through season 3 and let the rest of season 3 focus on reparations and what we re getting now...for sure, year 4 would've not been the last.
but what i really disliked...were the whinings of trekkies saying that Enterprise shouldnt look like that and the sort...all i can say is...TOS was made in the 60's/70's with subpar budgeting, technology...but of course, the pop culture version of pre-TOS would come across technological.
im willing to bet if we remade TOS, it would show HUGE strides over the progress Enterprise/Archer made.
TOS was only shackled by their times, Enterprise freed by ours.
and for the life of me, i cant seem to understand why OTHER trekkers dont get it...*sigh*
I dunno, I never liked Star Trek, as a whole, but I loved Voyager. (Not enough to shell out 100=Plus Per Season. . )
I dunno Star Trek was/is a little TOO into some of the Tech Aspects of the show, which made it a little slow for me to watch. But that's just me. . .I dunno I was just curious what some people's idea of Voyager was, I'veh eared it was the Red-Headed Stepchild of Trek. . .
DS9 (hands down)
Voyager (i liked this Lost In Space version of Starfleet)
Enterprise (plot driven stories always rock)
TNG (generally one-shot episodes, a lot were great)
TOS (still cant get over the pastel colors...)
This cancellation really got to me....
I thought Enterprise was probably the freshest take on Star Trek in a LOONNNGGG time.
A few funny points stick out to me:
TNG's first two entire seasons were basically rewritten TOS plots. Seriously, go back and check it out. Yet, TNG got the chance to develop from there...and Enterprise didn't.
DS9 started out okay, but the premise worn thin quickly. To boldly stay on a space station and wait for trouble to come! Great idea, guys.
Voyager....bleh. Never interested me, and I gave them two seasons of my viewing time...the acting didn't match up with other ST shows and although some plots were well-written, the execution lacked.
Then came Enterprise.
This Star Trek was the ONLY one that constantly suprised me, in content and quality. The encompassing story arcs that ran for several episodes were GREAT!!! I felt like I was sitting down to watch a movie every time I watched an episode. Anyways, its truly sad that this show didn't get a chance to spread its wings more than a couple of seasons....if given time, this series would've surpassed TNG in status.

it already has in my own book. there might be hope, though...but very unlikely...a channel like Sci-Fi picking up the last 3 seasons of Enterprise, but they've already written up the series finale...so very unlikely.
