Clix vs. Comix TOC! 36-40pts. Round 2 Match 8: FURY VS. STARMAN
Well, it's still close, but as of now, Ultimate Hawkeye has the lead over
Brainiac 5.

I was playing Heroclix the other day, and building my team, I had 103 points
left. I looked at my selection and realized that U HT Batman and R IC Hulk
both cost the same. This got me thinking. Just because they are Heroclix
equals doesn’t translate back translate back to comics. I think most of us
would agree that Hulk could beat Batman in a fight.

That is the idea for this tournament. Every entry will be close to the same
amount of points Heroclix wise, but this will be their comic forms
fighting!

Rules:
This will be a standard single elimination tournament with 32 combatants.
There will be 2 to a fight. They get no knowledge of each other (unless they
have fought in the past). The only thing they get is the Heroclix figure of
there enemies, and a PAC so they know what the opponent looks like and a bit
about what they can do (this can be misleading however, like if they face
Electro and think he will try to poison them). They will have 5 minutes to
prepare. This is a fight to the death or KO, whichever happens first, and they
must fight (no waiting for the opponent to die of starvation). They have with
them what they normally carry and what there fig has if it is different. (Like
how Bullseye doesn’t carry a gun, but he has one on the fig). If the fig that
is being used is the rookie, you do NOT have to treat the fighter like that.
(unless the characters powers change dramatically ie: Rouge)

When you vote, please try to justify your answer. You don’t have to write
an essay, just a short explanation will do.

Terrain
There are 10 terrains that are all 5 miles in diameter. They will be chosen
randomly.
With out further delay…

Fury
CJ, 37pts.
vs.
Starman
CJ, 37pts.

Terrain:
Prairies by Magnito
Very flat land that is covered with corn fields. The corn is high enough that
a person could easily hide in it. Going right through the centre of the
terrain is a highway. Traffic is light but the occasional car will pass. The
only building is a gas station/restaurant/truck stop near the very centre.
Inside, there is the owner and a couple of truckers that stopped for a good
meal.

21-25pts. winner: Live Wire
26-30pts. winner: Zatanna
31-35pts. winner: Killer Frost

Re: Clix vs. Comix TOC! 36-40pts. Round 2 Match 8: FURY VS. STARMAN
FURY
Helena Kosmatos prayed to the Erinyes - the Furies of ancient Greek myth - for
the power to revenge herself on the Nazis who murdered her loved ones. The
Erinyes granted her great strength and agility but did not tell her of the
price of her power - when she became angered, she would be taken over by
Tisiphone, the blood avenger. She fought alongside the JSA as a member of the
All-Star Squadron. Helena gave birth to a daughter, Lyta Hall, whom she gave
up to the fates. She then disappeared. She re-emerged years later, delusional,
believing herself to be the daughter of the Amazon Queen Hippolyta who had
fought alongside Fury in WWII. After battling Wonder Woman, she was taken in
by the Amazons of Themyscira in the hopes that her shattered mind would
finally be healed.

STARMAN (VII)
Jack Knight had no interest in the legacy of Starman, preferring antiques to
crime fighting. But when his brother David was murdered and his father, the
original Starman, was injured, Jack reluctantly took up the cosmic rod to
protect his beloved Opal City. The cosmic rod allows Jack to fly, blast energy
bolts, levitate objects and create force fields. Over time, Jack grew into the
role of a hero; battling villains Solomon Grundy, Mad Hatter, the Mist and Rag
Doll. His eclectic style gained him the respect and friendship of the Shade.
Continuing in his father's footsteps, Jack ventured into space and became a
member of the JSA. After the death of his father and the birth of his son,
Jack passed the cosmic rod on to the Star-Spangled Kid, retired from super-
heroics and hopefully, lived happily ever after.

Wow....Fury is a close combat attaker and Starman is a ranged attacker. Both can fly. I don't think Starman's rod is gonna be able to withstand Fury. She is a demi-god, although poorly represented in clix form. Super strength and agility, I think she will be able to dodge enough of the beams to close in on Jack and take him out. Fury for the win!

Jack's an a lot closer match than Sabertooth was, but I do think Fury is going to win. He can stun her and knock her back a bit with energy blasts, and defend with forcefields and TK, but he can't put her down.

As said before, when I don't know who to vote for, I follow the crowd.

My vote: Fury

You know, I'm gonna go agaisnt the crowd. The Comsic Rod is one of the most powerful weapons, and Starman I was considered a big gun in the JSA with only the Gravity Rod. And the Cosmic Rod is a vast upgrade to the Gravity Rod. This is one, if not the best terrian pull Jack could've hoped for in this fight against Fury. He'll blast her. A lot. And she won't be able to counter it. Sure she maybe super strong, but Jack was also an achomplished martial artist, so if the fight ever gets close, he should be able to hold his own until breaking away to blast some more. Eventually, Fury will fall. It might take a few blasts, but she'll fall. Jack to advance.

The thing is that while Ted Knight was a definite Big Gun for the JSA, Jack - while good - isn't as skilled with the equipment (plus the Original JSA didn't have a lot of members with high super-powers unlike the current JSA). It was mentioned more than once in the series that Jack didn't come close to mastering all the possible options available with the Cosmic Rod. Like I said, he's good but comparing him to his father doesn't quite fit the same category.

The thing to remember with Fury is that she does have ranged attacks as well. She has eldritch eye bolts and breathes mystical flame, which means Jack can't just stay "at range" and hope to take her down (esp. since it's debatable if he could stop her eye beams or even the magic fire).

Vote: Fury
Still not giving up on Someday.

Re: Clix vs. Comix TOC! 36-40pts. Round 2 Match 8: FURY VS. STARMAN
Well, actually, the JSA did have a number of big guns. GL Alan Scott, the Specter, Hourman (might be debatable, but in those 60 minutes of power, he did have Superman strenght and toughness) Dr. Fate, Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt, Wonder Woman, and in two Golden Age apperances, Superman.

Ok, yeah, I know this doesn't have much to do with this fight, just wanted to get that out.

Ok, while Fury isn't only a HtH fighter, from what I remember, that what she did. And you know, I think Jack's force fields that his Rod can generate can withstand the Fury's eye bolts. And again, in this enviroment, Jack should walk away with the win. Fury will be a somewhat easy target in this wide open terrian.

Because of low voter turnout so far, the fact the the realms were down, some of the matches are still close, and just the fact that I always do...I'm keeping all round 2 matches open for 1 more day.

He's gotta hit the agile Fury...she isn't going to stay still and let herself get tagged.

No way Starman is going to win this. Fury is going tear him a new (you know what). My vote Fury since she could rip his face off which she will.

Well Syxxpac, first she has to deal with Jack's long range attacks AND his force field, which is a very power field. I'm not sure if she has what it takes to take it down before she's ko'ed or incapacatied. Again, this terrian is not good for her, as she'll have zero cover to hide herself agaisnt Jack's Cosmic Rod.

I dont think Jack will be able to keep her at range forever, she might be hurt by that point but HtH, martial arts training or not, Fury will break through the field and get to him. I vote Fury.
