The HeroClix tournament at my local gaming store this week (Saturday to be specific) is a 500 pts. 0 Range with Random Battle Field Cards every game.
I've pretty much settled on going with an all evil and/or feral animal theme and I've got three variant line ups I'm toying around with.
Variant #1:
V Tanaraq 166 + Unstoppable 5
V Cheeta 63
V Lizard 50
V Hyena 59
V Killer Croc 80
U Sauron 77
TOTAL: 500 pts.
Variant #2:
V Tanaraq 166 + Damage Shield 10
V Cheeta 63
V Killer Croc 80
V Hyena 59
E Lizard 45
U Sauron 77
TOTAL: 500 pts.
Variant #3:
V Tanaraq 166
V Cheeta 63
V Killer Croc 80
V Man Bat 31
E Lizard 45
R Hyena
U Sauron
TOTAL: 500 pts.
Any advice on strengths and weaknesses of each one, strategies to use, and/or variations on one of the above lists is welcome. And thanks in advance for any help.
the only problem with those teams are that there are no range attackers.
i like the first one team. only thing is that killer croc has batman enemies TA and you are not getting any use out of it. and hyena sux.
166 V tanaraq
+ 5 unstoppable
63 V cheetah
50 V lizard
+ 12 auto regen
31 V man-bat
76 V sabretooth
+12 auto regen
84 V venom
499
now with 2 charging b/c/f figures. sabretooth with brotherhood allows you to move him for free. venom gives you some extra utility powers with perplex and outwit. i dropped hyena and killer croc and added venom and sabretooth. i figures d it would fit yor theme idea also.
cheers

When I was first working on this team I originaly had V Man Bat and V Sabertooth in it but I ended up dropping them so I could fit V Tanaraq in and give the team a Heavy Hitter. Your suggestion isn't a bad, but it has two problems with it. It leaves out U Sauron and V Venom has a Range 4 which excludes him a choice since all characters in this Tournament must have Range 0. Going with your as a basis though, here's another variation I could use:
U Sauron 77 + Armor Piercing 10
V Tanaraq 166 + Unstoppable 5 + In Contact with Oracle 10
V Cheeta 63
V Lizard 50 + Autoregen 12
V Killer Croc 80
E Man Bat 27
Sauron will bring mobile B/C/F and Mind Control with Armor Piercing to help his Steal Energy. He shouldn't be in combat much unless he's attacking a supporting Character on my opponents team and his main objective will be to hang back and use his Mind Control.
Tanaraq is the Team's Primary Attacker with Unstoppable to help make his way through buildings and Hindering Terrain and then ICWO on him to help raise his attack, defense or damage depending on what's needed at the time.
Cheeta is one of the Secondary Attackers who will move with and support Tanaraq.
Lizard is another Secondary Attacker who will move with and support Tanaraq and Autoregen will help keep him around longer.
E Killer Croc is a third Secondary Attacker who will be taxied around by Man-Bat (who can also use Croc's Batman Enemy TA). Also, in case of a map with a fair bit of water, Croc and Lizard will be able to move through it with relative ease if I want to use them as reserves.
My only remaining concern really with this team is figures with Hypersonic Speed. I played a practice match against a team of U KC Shazam, U Xorn and U Nightcrawler and got my butt handed to me without being able to land a single hit on anyone.
If everyone has to have 0 range you MUST go with V Atlas; though charge figures, HSS, or TK are all good. As you seem to be going for a theme, just be prepared to face these, as well as Black Adam and KC Flash and, you know, medics and black panthers and stuff.

I just did a tournament with 0 range and from my experience giant figuers rule and so does Cain Marko with haymaker and icwo(for defense) and a heavy object. man 8 damage hurts especially when its aimed at my cheetah vet ko ing it in one shot
Well I didn't win the Tournament but I did manage to come in the Top 8 (8th Place to be Specific) which is better than I've done in any of my previous tournaments.
I can't give a lot of specifics but I can tell you generaly how each of my matches wents.
My first match was against KC Shazam and KC Wonder Woman on Outdoor Map B (the one with some Semies and three buildings/rooftops. In this battle I managed to do a little damage to Wonder Woman with Tanaraq and Sauron but KC Shazam kept doing the tried and true HSS Hit & Run tactic and using ICWO to up his already high damage and knock my pieces off all their useful clicks before finishing them off. It didn't help matters that I couldn't roll a single Impervious or Super Senses roll and Cheeta got exiled from the game when the fight moved up to the Rooftops. In short, I got my clocked cleaned severley.
On Round 2 I got a By.
Round 3 I went up against a team full of B/C/F consisting mostly of Indy figures and a mix of other figures including Colleen Wing pog, V Sabertooth, V Lizard, U Baron Blood and LE Logan. The Map we played on was primarily In Door with an Outdoor area in the middle. At the start things looked pretty good with me managing to massacre Baron Blood before he even hit me. Things started going down hill though when I divided my forces and went after two clumps of figures. My undoing in this game was again that I failed to make any SS or Impervious Rolls, not to mention that my oponent couldn't stop rolling 8+ on 2D6. I had the chance to turn things around with Sauron by Mind Controlling Sabertooth and using him to attack the figures surounding Sauron but I botched the roll. I lost that one too but I did manage to take about 4 of his figures out with me.
Round 4 was by far the ugliest of the matches. It was on the same map as my first match and my opponent had a force consisting of R Jean Grey, LE Caine Marko, V Black Knight and a number of other figures. I got totally creamed in this game and didn't manage to hit any of his guys.
I might not have done that well, but I still had a blast and even made into the Top 8 (there were 16 players in the Tourney) which is a new record for me. My only regret is that they allowed TK'ers. Call me crazy, but I think it would have been a lot more interesting if there hadn't been any TK'ing pieces.
Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know how I did.
