Clix vs. Comix TOC! 51-55pts. Round 1 Match 9: MIRAGE VS. ULTIMATE HUMAN TORCH
It wasn't a complete shut out, but Cyclops has a commanding lead over Mole Man. Still, stranger things could happen then Mole Man taking the lead.
I was playing Heroclix the other day, and building my team, I had 103 points left. I looked at my selection and realized that U HT Batman and R IC Hulk both cost the same. This got me thinking. Just because they are Heroclix equals doesn’t translate back translate back to comics. I think most of us would agree that Hulk could beat Batman in a fight.
That is the idea for this tournament. Every entry will be close to the same amount of points Heroclix wise, but this will be their comic forms fighting!
Rules:
This will be a standard single elimination tournament with 32 combatants. There will be 2 to a fight. They get no knowledge of each other (unless they have fought in the past). The only thing they get is the Heroclix figure of there enemies, and a PAC so they know what the opponent looks like and a bit about what they can do (this can be misleading however, like if they face Electro and think he will try to poison them). They will have 5 minutes to prepare. This is a fight to the death or KO, whichever happens first, and they must fight (no waiting for the opponent to die of starvation or for the terrain to dispose of them). They have with them what they normally carry and what there fig has if it is different. (Like how Bullseye doesn’t carry a gun, but he has one on the fig). If the fig that is being used is the rookie, you do NOT have to treat the fighter like that. (unless the characters powers change dramatically ie: Rouge)
When you vote, please try to justify your answer. You don’t have to write an essay, just a short explanation will do.
Terrain
There are 10 terrains that are all 5 miles in diameter. They will be chosen randomly.
With out further delay…

Terrain: Ancient Chinese City at Nightby Q99
(As seen in Way of the Rat, Crouching Tiger, and half of all period Kung Fu flicks)
A bustling metropolis of the east after all the bustle has gone to sleep and the shutters closed, still full of miscellany from the day, empty stalls, carts, loose animals, flagpoles, and enough rooftops, ranging from mostly flat to multi-tiered palaces, to fight a hundred kung fu battles, easily accessible to anyone who can jump 10 feet and the best way to get away from the clutter of the narrow streets and watchful eyes (and numerous spears) of the armed city guard.
Round 1

Northstar vs. Ultimate Wolverine: Ultimate Wolverine
Gambit vs. Changeling: Changeling
Archangel (Death) vs. Jesse Quick: Archangel (Death)

Mirage vs. Ultimate Human Torch:
MIRAGE (and Brightwind)
Cheyenne mutant Dani Moonstar could see visions and create illusions. Haunted by the visage of a demon bear, Dani was protected and raised by her Shaman grandfather Black Eagle. As she grew older, she was sent to Xavier's school to hone her powers but before leaving, Black Eagle was killed by mutant hunter Donald Pierce. Dani joined the New Mutants as Mirage. The New Mutants defeated the demon bear but not long after, the team was captured by the Enchantress and teleported to Asgard. There, Dani joined the Valkyrie, Odin's warrior women, and rescued Brightwind; the winged horse. She also gained the ability to see death-visions which frightened her immensely but was able to fight off death with her "Spirit Lance" illusion. Her powers were further increased when Morlocks advanced her mutation, giving her illusions physical form. During the Inferno event, the Norse death goddess Hela converted her along with all her Valkyrie sisters into "Dark Valkyrie." With the help of Dr. Strange, the New Mutants restored her to normal and the team returned to Asgard to stop Hela's plot. Dani stayed behind with the Valkyrie. After spending time in Asgard with her Valkyrie "sisters," Dani Moonstar returned to Earth. Though she had recovered from her transformation as a Dark Valkyrie, Brightwind had not, turning black and now called "Darkwind." Dani developed her illusion creating powers so she could generate a psionic bow and arrow which could be used to render a target unconscious or dredge up its greatest fear. Working as an undercover agent of SHIELD, she infiltrates the Mutant Liberation Front. Moonstar later rejoined some of her original New Mutant teammates in X-Force. She has since returned to college and become a part time X-Man.
HUMAN TORCH (Ultimate)
Susan Storm's younger brother is a short-tempered teen, who is merely enamored to fast cars and good-looking girls. This adolescent's powers engulf him in flame which enables him to fly and shoot flaming projectiles.
Human Torch - even the Ultimate one - is no stranger to Danni whereas Johnny's going to know squat about this opponent. Mirage uses her ability to manipulate a great fear and suddenly Torch sees himself as....ugly....and hated by women (okay, maybe he just sees himself losing control of his powers and igniting innocent people so he consciously shuts down his powers, making him an easy KO ).
Vote: Mirage
Still not giving up on Someday. "Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."

Sums up my take pretty well. Another case where the figure isn't going to come close to giving Johnny a clue as to what she actually does.

Sold.
Mirage wins this. Johnny relies on Reed too much for the thinking, and you really need to use your brains to see Mirage for who she is before she's got you wrapped around her finger. Mirage has this.
