Choose the HCREALMS Scenario for WWE-Please read the post before voting
Good day to all,
To all those that will be attending Wizard World East in Philadelphia (or just those whom are interested). I am trying to put together an HCREALMS scenario for the HCREALMS players to play at WWE. First I must submit the scenario I would like to run at the convention and have it approved by wizkids. In an effort to promote gameplay and try to downplay cheese I have chosen the following Scenarios to choose from. Give me a hand and vote for your favorite. If you have changes you would like to see for the scenario let me know.
Please help me choose by voting for your favorite scenario!!
1) Team Play Tournament
50 minute rounds
3 objects per player (12 in all)
Highlander rules for NAMED figures apply (does not apply to Generics-Awesome android is considered a Generic for this event)
Must be played on a 36x36 map
Build a 200 point team for the tournament and buy ONE booster of the most current set
You may add the FULL content of your booster to your team
Participants will be paired up accordingly by the judge of the event at random
This is a TWO on TWO Tournament (Swiss rounds)
3 actions per round.
Highest roll goes first, Highest roll of the opposing team goes next
EXAMPLE
(TEAM 1-Bill (rolled 12) and Carl (rolled 4) are on a team, and Team 2-Mike (rolled 5) and John (rolled 9) are on a team: Bill would go first, John Second, Carl would go third and Mike would go last.)
ALTERNATE RULES
As a team you may act like a team. You may heal your opponent on your turn, enhancement would affect your teammate’s figures, etc… (as would team abilities (ie Hydra, PD, etc…))
If using wildcard figures you may borrow the team ability of your teammate’s figures
You may NOT make an action during your teammate’s turn.
Figures on your teammates team are considered Friendly for adjacency purposes.
Teammates share a starting area that may extend to the end of the map.
2) THREE HUNDRED PLUS TOURNAMENT
50 minute rounds
Highlander rules for NAMED figures apply (does not apply to Generics-Awesome android is considered a Generic for this event)
Swiss rounds (participants to be paired up by the judge at random)
Build a 300 point team and buy two boosters-add the full content of your boosters to your team
Booster must be of the most current set-most probably collateral damage
3) BRING SOME CARDBOARD-Sealed event
50 minute rounds
Swiss rounds (participants to be paired up by the judge at random)
Bring 50 points worth of Feats and 3 battle field conditions
Using Three Sealed boosters Build your best 400 point army. You may apply the feats at no cost, but they may not exceed 50 points. (ie using Thunderbolts x4, ICWO x2, Armor piercing)
The battle field conditions will be used for the tournament. If you pulled a BFC you may use it EVERY round along with the Battle field conditions you borught (ie Bill brings Atlantis rising, Madness and Rally. He then pulls proximity mines out of a booster. He may play Proximity mines EVERY round)
4) ALL ROOKIE EVENT 600 points
50 minute rounds
Swiss rounds (participants to be paired up by the judge at random)
Highlander rules for NAMED figures apply (does not apply to Generics-Awesome android is considered a Generic for this event)
Build your best 600 point team using only figure with a yellow base (Rookies)
5) EXPERIENCE COUNTS EVENT 600 points
50 minute rounds
Highlander rules for NAMED figures apply (does not apply to Generics-Awesome android is considered a Generic for this event)
Swiss rounds (participants to be paired up by the judge at random)
Build your best 600 point team using ONLY figures with a Blue base (experienced)
I went for the E scenario. E's seem to make teams less often than R's and V's. Plus, the scenarios that add whole boosters seem to elevate luck a bit much for my tastes.
If you have an odd number of players show up, you're in trouble. Also, who gets the Champion's prize, one or both 'teammates'? If both do, does that eliminate a Fellowship prize?
2) THREE HUNDRED PLUS TOURNAMENT
Build a 300 point team and buy two boosters-add the full content of your boosters to your team
Seems like fun on the surface, but it's not a good idea. When random figures are added, an advantage (however slight) goes to the players who had the best pulls. Add in the fact that there is no point limit to what can be taken from the booster, and the 'good puller' gets even more of an advantage. Put it this way: if you pulled 120pts worth of figs from your booster, how much chance do you think you would have versus a player that pulled 300pts or more? Odds are, more points will equal a much better chance at victory. This one would be better if the players get to add to their forces from a random booster, but at a set limit (say 100pts). You could also allow them to switch out 'original' force members for booster figs if they prefer what they pulled, but would have to go over the 100pt limit to include the booster figs they like.
3) BRING SOME CARDBOARD-Sealed event
Bring 50 points worth of Feats and 3 battle field conditions
Using Three Sealed boosters Build your best 400 point army. You may apply the feats at no cost, but they may not exceed 50 points. (ie using Thunderbolts x4, ICWO x2, Armor piercing)

At first glance, this one gets my vote. Question though: do the Feats have to be chosen BEFORE the players see what they pull? If so, you're probably going to get a lot of generic, boring, and overused stuff like ICwO, APiercing, Protected, etc. If you allow players to see what they pull and add feats accordingly, that would be better. On the BfCs, you could certainly enforce a "NO Ordinary Day" rule to make sure things stay interesting.
For my taste, 600pts is too much for a serious tournament. Waiting until your opponent is through ganging up on you with six actions before you can do anything to respond is extremely frustrating. If you imposed a rule that reduced the number of actions (or perhaps changed the order in which the actions take place during a round to something other than me-6, you-6), that goes a long way to faciliate a fair fight. Otherwise, players will spend most of their time jockeying for that all-too-precious 1st strike advantage. Also, with so many points at the players' disposals, these events are just begging to be dominated by r. or e. Supes.
One question about the EXP tourney: would Starter exclusive figs count as Exp. versions? Blue ring or not, in my opinion, they shouldn't.
I voted for Experienced teams, it sounds like the oddest format! Building a 200 or a 300 lets people get by with their old standbyes. If there were a stranger build restriction, like having the same color costume, or everyone's dial having to start with a certain color, I would've voted for that instead!
The cardboard scenario is easily the one I dislike most. 3 ICWO, 1 Armor Piercing, and 1 Protected on every team for free. What fun...
Maybe I missed a thread someplace, but why allow more than one Awesome Android? I don't mind, multiples won't dominate gameplay, but I thought there was just one.
You might want to make a note on the home page for voters to read this post first. I imagine many may not be fully ware just what they're voting for.
I don't have 65+ positive feedback (325+ on eBay) because I stink! My Trading Thread has non's, U's & LE's from CD, AW, Icons, FF, Legacy & more! My eBay Sales has new clix & sets listed every Sunday!

Seeing the results after I voted, I'm sure of this. The majority of us who posted here so far said "Experienced" but that scenario is currently in the minority in the poll. People are voting without reading. The home page makes no mention of the boosters players need to buy or how teammates will be paired.

I voted for the "experienced" scenario as well. However, it doesn't seem to be the popular vote.
The only one I DON'T like is the feat card scenario. You bring 50points worth of feats and build a 400 points team. I guess if you are doing boosters then it makes it kinda random. If it were a contructed with feats then I would be dissapointed.
i like them all, but i actually voted for the feats scenario. i know you guys aren't into it, but i prefer sealed events. i'm so sick of seeing the same figs on the board all the time, and sealed events pretty much eliminate that. despitet he fact i have the worst luck with pulls on earth, i have the most fun with sealed events
I voted for the "Experienced" team. I think that would demonstrate the depth of some players abilities, and allow strategy to prevail.

I like the Experienced only tournament, but think it should be scaled back to 500 points. With six actions, plus free movement (E Quicksilver), plus leadership (E Blackfire)... I agree with scholarx on this one, it's too easy to be ganged up on.
I Am The Game Mentioned something like one of the more interesting tournaments run in my area: A Shared Powers tournament. Basically every figure on your force has to have the same power somewhere on their dial. HSS isn't as bad without all the support, and you can really build some great teams around Willpower, B/C/F, or even Mind Control!
Just my 2 cents, I'm voting E anyway.
Go E Wildfire!!

I will vote for the Teamplay tournament. I like it randoness and I love playing sealed games. Plus it is always fun to team up with someone and discuss strategies and about what move to do next. I really like that one Rock810.

Many folk's interpretation of highlander is different when it comes to what a named figure violation is (Patch/Logan and Batgirl(Babs)/Oracle(Babs) and what a generic piece might be (Scourge is considered generic by some.) It would help avoid mistakes in team building.
