I haven't read it yet, but I heard The Long Halloween was really good.

Especially if you liked Hush.
Nightwing: Remember, Ravager--We need information about who they're working for, not corpses.
Ravager: They won't say! They're just all "Oh, my teeth" and "Oh god, my eye!"

The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, in that order, are must reads for any Batman fan. Jeph Loeb is a genius.

Agreed...

If you liked Hush try picking up 'Under The Hood' TPB continues with red hood where hush left - great read IMO

'Broken City' is a great read - dark and gritty... but not for everyone

The mentioning of KC points towards the last. if this is the case I can also strongly recommend: 'Identity Crisis' and 'OMAC project', if you haven't already read them..

I highly recommend the old denny o'neil Ra's comics.

tales of the demon
bride of the demon
son of the demon
birth of the Demon
the Demon Awakes
bane of the demon

and A Death in the Family is a must-read.
so is The Killing Joke (probably my favorite tale)

Wow, is it possible to like all of those? They are so at odds with each other. I think "Son of the Demon" is one of the best Batman/Ra's stories ever, but "Birth of the Demon" shoves it out of continuity and just doesn't hold a candle to it. I always looked at it as Denny's way of getting back at Barr for writing a better R'as story than him.

Of them all, I'd say "Tales" and "son" are really, really good. "Bride" wasn't great, and "Birth" was awful. Didn't read "Bane" or "Awakes".

My two cents.

Not mentioned yet:

Prey
Arkham Asylum
The Cult

"Prey" is excellent & should be the basis for the next Batman movie.

The Killing Joke is a perfect comic. A death in the family is quite good and, if you are following the current red hood saga, a must read.
The tower of babel, while being a JLA trade, is a really wicked read and features batman as the main pivot of the story.
