We played a tournament a couple of nights ago - 300 pts, 3 figures max on your team. We usually play some sort of scenario or theme every week so you never see the same team over and over. In this instance, I thought maybe someone would bring a single big gun but not most. Get this...9 guys played including myself, 1 used Nimrod, 2 - KC Green Lantern, 5 - NGN Superman. FIVE! I couldn't believe it. It was him sprinkled with various flavors of support, medic, con artist, barrier, whatever. My team...
Ghost Widow with Auto Reg
Norman Osborn with Protected
KC Hawkman with Nanobots
At first, I was ticked about seeing all the Supermen, then I felt I would get slaughtered. My first Supes team I completely defeated, followed by a GL team. I ended up getting to the finals. In the final seconds of the round his weakened Superman(no impervious, running shot) was against my fresh Ghost Widow and Hawkman. I had him on the run and time ran out. I felt sort of cheated. But hey, I was really just glad I got that far. I was pleasantly surprised. Just thought I'd share.
Trigon visiting the Teen Titans as Raven's amiable father.
Trigon: "Robin,how's your back?"
Robin: "Fine. Why?"
Trigon: "I just wondered if it hurt from carrying Batman all these years."
I am really going to have a build a team around that Hawkman sometime. All the hype from Thawmus and CapAmerica24 have me really curious to try him on a team.
No kidding. Pushing to his Charge clicks was my best weapon against Supes TA. Having Nanobots on him was a huge boon as he took a hit or two every game but then get 2-6 clicks back, depending on the object availability.

Ok so I guess I'm just missing it, why is KC Hawk so freaking great. I mean he looks good but not as good as you guys hype him. Can you give me an example of how you use him?
Borat: "My Sister she is prostitute."
Lady: But why?
Borat: "Because she like to make money, High five!"

I honestly never considered Nanobots. Perhaps because I heal him so much, and use Spiderman with him so much....not to mention I'm a huge fan of Lazarus Pit.
I can imagine it works pretty slick with him, though. Most of his 2 damage clicks will heal into his 4 damage clicks, or at least his 2 damage with CCE clicks. You'll never get him back into running shot, but with a second click like that, who the hell cares?

115 points for a VERY high attack that always stays up there, a TA that keeps the HSSsters away *some* of the time, 3-4 damage without help for most of his dial, a full dial of toughness (this is big), and high defense values on the top, with low defense values on the bottom for healing.
Couple that with the fact that he's easily underestimated, and that perplex/ICWO goes so far on him (usually either giving him a 13 attack, 4-5 damage, more movement for a running shot/charge, or an 18 defense) and a really long dial.
On the full dial of toughness- few people outwit toughness, or waste their Psychic Blast on a toughness figure. It just doesn't make much sense to get that extra +1 on a figure that looks like he sucks anyways. I'll be honest, when I first pulled him, I thought he was carp. I was just learning the game, and was getting fed up with my big bricks getting picked away by V Sinestro at 10 range, etc. So when I saw that he had a 6 range, I was NOT a fan. But it was a sealed tourney, and I didn't have anyone else to put on my team. So I threw him on. And that's where the success started, and despite a few bumps in the road, his success story hasn't ended yet.
The underestimation by most players is huge too. 12 attack and 3 damage with toughness and a 6 range can MESS WITH YOUR HEAD when you're the opponent. You want to hit him, but he looks hilariously puny, like he can't do anything. Then he hits you with an attack that he has slim to no chance of missing, cripples you, and just takes you to town.
Also, despite the very few powers on his dial, he has many many options. Like kainus said, if he has to deal with stealth, give him a push into his charge clicks. The Charge clicks are AWESOME with that 6 range. Due to a ruling on wildcards (don't fight me on it, I had this argument, and I lost), Hawkman can declare a range attack on a wildcard. Wildcard owner, out of force of habit, will declare Batman Ally/Kubuki. That's where the fun begins. Due to the ruling, Hawkman can then change his action into a Charge, and attack that same figure. That figure is STUCK on Batman Ally, and can't declare another TA (Mystics, F4, JSA, etc.). Now, Hawkman's not the only figure that can do this, but with an 11 attack and 4 damage, what's not to love? Give him some ICWO, and that's either a 12 attack or 5 damage! Sound familiar?
Hawkman works best with a careful, yet "In your face!!!" tactic. Try and TK him out there to hurt someone badly, and then after a few hits, run him back for some healing. Or, like Kainus did, run him to some objects for some Nanobot lovin'. He has a high enough movement throughout his dial to be able to get OUT of the action just about every time.
*I* typically run him with ICWO and Lazarus Pit. I'm a huge fan of Lazarus Pit, because I love late-game surprises that put the opponent on the ropes.
I would say that KC Hawkman is great for any one of those things I've mentioned, but his point cost seals the deal. 115 points is ridiculously cheap for what you get with him, and considering you get the same 12 attack that makes KC Flash and KC Green Lantern so effective (not to mention, he's only 3 shy of their great 20 defense), for nearly half the cost of a KC Green Lantern, he's a bargain.
I really can't explain much more why he's so effective. I've been trying to explain it since I discovered him, and I really can't. He just.....gets the job done. I don't know how, but he does. And for a point cost that's so low that it's ridiculous.
You declare a ranged attack action
Opponent chooses Bat Ally
You declare a DIFFERENT action of charging
Opponent can then switch to KC/Mystics/Whatever
I've seen it ruled this way a few different times. Anybody have a definitive answer...?

That's what I said in another thread, and it was explained that this was wrong. If someone ELSE makes a different action, then they can declare another TA. But if Hawkman just changes his action on the spot, then they can't.

Is the Icons rule book definitive enough? From page 15, under Wildcards:
the declaration of a wild card team ability makes the declared action impossible to perform—for example, if a line of fire for an opponent’s ranged combat attack can no longer be drawn to the wild card—treat the action as though it was not given and choose a different action. The wild card, however, must continue to use the declared ability even when a new action is declared.
Yes, this is different than it was under the Universe rules. The method you described, Cap, was the way it used to be.
"How does [insert special power] work with the new 2013 rules?"
Most everything special power-wise, we're looking into. The PAC changes may change the way some special powers function; we're checking on them before the June release. In the meantime, ask your judge.
I, for one, don't dare argue with normalview. When he comes down from the Rules section of the forums, it's like the light of truth shining on ya, booming "Normal View..... Normal Vieeeew, Normal Vieeeeeeeeeeew!"

Plus, I hate being wrong.
I'm weird, cuz I don't mind so much. It helps me keep in mind that I should STFU instead of guessing.

Nah, you explained it pretty darn well.
I've never used the character, and now I'm wondering why. I should have played him by now, just for the fact that he's one of the coolest looking sculpts in the game.
