I was watching Ultimate Avengers and asked my roomate if ultimate cap is dying from the serum, and he said no ultimate cap isn't afflicted with serum poisoning, and then I thought to myself, is 616 cap dying from it still? it doesn't look that way , when was he cured of it, i totally missed it .

Cured of it during Operation: Rebirth.
The Red Skull's minions showed up at Cap's death bed, and froze him in a block of ice. From there he got a full blood transfusion from the Skull (who was in a perfect clone body of Steve Rogers).
So he has the serum still, but it's totally fresh, and probably won't break down again.
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
A splinter Nazi faction had found the cosmic cube, one which contained Hitler's brain.
Skull knew that as long as Hitler's conciousness was in the cube, he could not control it, and use it for his own ends. Since defeating Hitler was more or less why Captain America was created (and knowing how fantastically strong Cap's willpower was), Skull rescued him to defeat Hitler.
He set it up, so Cap would have to join him and fight the cube and it's cultists. So that at some point Cap would be pulled into the cube. Skull believed the two (Hitler and Steve) would destroy each other. Which, if Captain America were not the person he is, would have happened.
Instead Cap prevailed, and actually succesfully freed himself from the cube. During a resulting battle with the Skull, Steve destroyed the cube, and the Skull was apparently vaporized in the resultant energy explosion.
This of course, all led to the Skull being trapped inside the cube's energy, and eventually merging with it.

That has to be the best summary of any story I've read in a long long time. Short and to the point. Marvel should hire you to condense some of Bendis' stories.
