Clix vs. Comix TOC! 121-140, Round 1 Match 13: ANNIHILUS VS. MAXIMA
Dr. Doom takes a strong lead over his demon opponant.
I was playing Heroclix one day. While building my team, I looked at my selection for 103pts characters and realized that U HT Batman and R IC Hulk both cost the same. This got me thinking. Just because they are Heroclix equals doesn’t translate back to comics. I think most of us would agree that Hulk could beat Batman in a fight.
Thus, the Clix vs. Comix TOC was born! Every entry will be close to the same amount of points Heroclix wise, but this will be their comic forms fighting!
Rules:
This will be a standard single elimination tournament with 32 combatants. There will be 2 to a fight. They get no knowledge of each other (unless they have fought in the past). The only thing they get is the Heroclix figure of there enemies, and a PAC so they know what the opponent looks like and a bit about what they can do (this can be misleading however, like if they face Electro and think he will try to poison them). They will have 5 minutes to prepare. This is a fight to the death or KO or 1 minute complete incapacitate, whichever happens first, and they must fight (no waiting for the opponent to die of starvation or for the terrain to dispose of them). They have with them what they normally carry and what there fig has if it is different. (Like how Bullseye doesn’t carry a gun, but he has one on the fig). If the fig that is being used is the rookie, you do NOT have to treat the fighter like that. (unless the characters powers change dramatically ie: Rouge)
When you vote, please try to justify your answer. You don’t have to write an essay, just a short explanation will do.
I would like to thank Whoclix for the bios, ‘cause I could never write ones like that myself.
Terrain
There are 10 terrains that are all 5 miles in diameter. They will be chosen randomly.
With out further delay…
Terrain: Spaceshipby Magnito
A High tech spaceship of the future. It is spherical in shape and is 5 miles in diameter. (Isn’t it a coincidence that that is the exact size of the fighting arenas.) All rooms are open, (cargo bays, war rooms, navigation, living quarters ect.) The rooms are quite big, except for the corridors leading from one to the others.

Annihilus vs. Maxima:
ANNIHILUSWikipedia
The insectoid despot hails from the Negative Zone. Fearing his own death from the power of his Cosmic Control Rod, Annihilus will destroy anyone he perceives as a threat, including his frequent foes, the Fantastic Four. He infrequently teams up with Blastaar, another villain from the anti-matter dimension. Thanks to his highly evolved exo-skeleton, not only does he have super strength, but can also fly and with stand the cold vacuum of space.
MAXIMAWikipedia
The queen of the planet Almerac, Maxima came to Earth seeking Superman as a mate. When he rejected her, she became his enemy. But after she was mind-controlled by Brainiac, she joined the Justice League to atone for her crimes. She eventually returned to Almerac, only returning to cause trouble for Superman. After Imperiex destroyed Almerac, Maxima became a key part of the alien alliance which stood against him; sacrificing her life in the war. Maxima had powerful mind control powers, could fly and had super-strength.
If Maxima could use her telekinetic/magnetic powers to take the Rod from Annihilus, it would be all over. I doubt that would happen, but I don't know enough about Anny to say.
Abstaining for now.
"There is good and there is evil, and evil must be punished. Even in the face of Armageddon I shall not compromise in this."
-Rorschach, Watchmen
A spaceship full of metal is a good terrain for a magnetic controller to have. Normally I'd give this to Annihilus eight ways from Sunday, but Maxima can throw the entire terrain at him with no let up, and she's tough enough to take a couple of hits from him in the meantime, so I vote Maxima.
Even with all of the metal around, I still think that Annihilus is too much of a power house for Maxima. With the cosmic control rod, Annihilus will have the firepower to take Maxima out.
In terms of power classic Annhilius and Maxima seem pretty even to me, at least close enough that they are "too close to call". I give the slight edge to Maxima due to terrain advantage, and the possibilty of her stealing the Cosmic Rod, should the always talky Annhilius let slip it's importance.
DId Maxima really have magnetic powers? I thought she just had TK? Even so, she always gave Superman more than a bit of trouble in combat, say slightly less than Wonder Woman level overall. Though Annihilus' cred had certainly shot up recently with his new series, and talking to Thanos as an equal is no small feat at all. Personally Im a bit unsure of this one right now.

Yeah, I'm convinced that there is some kind of story behind Annhilius being that powerful. He is a lot more dangerous and effective there than he has ever been before, he was able to leave the Negative Zone with an enourmous galaxy destroying fleet with no apparent difficulty, yet he's never been able to get out of there on his own before. He took Quasar in seconds and is apparently more powerful than Supernova (Nova with the entire Novaforce at his disposal). Destroying just a small part of his armada depleted Firelord. Some of the minions he's created have captured and killed Air Walker, Terrax, and Morg. That is dramatically more powerful than I feel like Annhilius was ever represented previously. If we were useing Annhilation Annihilus I'd vote for him in a second, but we're just going by the classic version.
Honestly, Maxima is enough of a powerhouse that she's not going down fast to Annihilus. More importantly, she can keep Annihilus at bay by swatting/TK'ing him away (and using plenty of TK to hurl around junk) and eventually Anny is going to mention the Cosmic Control Rod (or Maxima, while not a super-genius, is still a sharp warrior, is going to notice all the energy beams coming from the Rod or the way it glows all the time) at which point it's snagged from him (if the Human Torch can physically yank it off of Annihilus, I think Maxima's TK can do it).
Vote: Maxima
Still not giving up on Someday. "Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."

MAXIMA
If Annihilus now has the power to defeat Quasar with ease, take down Supernova, and talk to Thanos as an equal, he definately does have the power to take down Maxima. (unless it was ruled this is NOT Annihilation Annihilus.....then toss me into the Maxima pool)
