The Terrain: Desert oilfield. A large oil field in a desert, could be the Middle East, could be Texas, could be Russia. Whereever it is, many oil pumps are pumping and the temperature is very hot. Desert animals skitter around. 100 square miles of desert, and 3/4th a mile above them are fair game for the teams.


Ten minutes after they arrive as teams, meeting together for the second time and with that experiance to help improve their teamwork, a series of forcefields drops and the match commences!

What do Rival, Shade and Shimmer do again?

Rival- Evil Jay Garrick (in Max Mercury's body I think)

Shade- He controls shadow, creating them, making it solid, making it eat people, etc., and similar shadow-tricks. He's also immortal (over a hundred years old. He doesn't have particular invunerability I think, although he is fairly tough, he just doesn't age and I think is fated to not die).

Shimmer- She can change one compound into another compound at short range. An example is turning the air in Jade's lungs into water but she can also do other stuff like colapse a floor or ceiling on someone, turn a weapon to glass and break it, etc..

Thanks Q. Rival, is he as vicious and intelligent as say Zoom with his evil Flash powers? Can he fly, or reasonably attack (at a decent level) flying characters? (I ask before both of his opposing teammates can fly, one of them being a world class telepath who could very well shut his mind off at the speed of thought) And how likely are characters on Team Doom to know of those 3 above?

Rival is very, very close to Jay in terms of overall skill and power. He can't fly, but he knows the same projectile tricks as Jay and can use momentum to inflict massive damage much like Jay (he's been show able to plow through trucks and small buildings easily, and without breaking stride), Rival also knows how to manipulate the speedforce in such a fashion that he can use his hand like a super sharp bladed weapon, he sliced through Jay's hat with it in their most recent battle. Rival has slightly less control over the speedforce than Jay, the last two times they met Jay beat him by forceing Rival into a race that made Rival go so fast that he was absorbed by the speedforce, while Jay was able to resist its pull (albeit with great difficulty). You can check out Rival's most recent appearance in the "Injustice for all" storyline in Johns previous JSA run (collected in the "Return of Hawkman" tpb).

It is fairly likely that Deathstroke knows all 3 of these people by reputation at least. They all have fairly long careers as supervillians and Shimmer and Rival have been members of supervillian teams in the past (Shimmer's team typically fights the Teen Titans in fact).

I'm going with Team Doom. I see Moondragon taking Rival out immediately. Adam Warlock macks Shade. Flying at the speed of sound, concussive blasts, 50 class strength and that's being conservative, too versatile for Shade. The lightweights on team Doom severly outclass Team Light's and while Shimmer can give the MW's trouble, I see Deathstroke distracting her until Karnak sneaks in for the knock out. Captain Cold may take Leech, but he will be dealt with with ease by either heavyweight on Doom's team in no time flat. Moondragon would turn his brain into mush. Light is probaly stronger than Doom, but he can hold Light off til he gets help from the rest of his team.

You realize Shade's main enemy was Golden Age Flash right? And Starman couldn't hold a candle to Shade when he gets serious. Adam's not likely to get close to Shade unless Shade wants him to. The stuff from the Shadowlands which IIRC he controls is bad, bad stuff. If it wasn't for Shade's decidedly human frailty, I'd put him solidly in SHW class just off of his power. Adam's not putting him down easily at all. At least not this incarnation of Adam. Moondragon v Rival isn't a stomp either. Especially if Rival has that "thinks to fast to lock on to" thing that Wally sometimes does, yet forgets when he faces Grodd. Truth be told, either HW matchup could go on for a while.

Depending on how well the teams work together this is a very balanced matchup.

Shade can't fly, right? Adam Warlock doesn't need to get close. Shade has human frailty like you said, concussive blasts and super strength are enough. He could just toss oil drums at him as well. That's just my opinion.
Moondragon is a one of the top mentalists in the Marvel universe. I'd say she is far superior to Gorilla Grodd in that area, and Wally can't do that little trick to Gorilla Grodd? That's an argument against Rival, not for him, as Moondragon would easily be able to do so, if Grodd can do it to Wally.
Sorry, I don't buy that think too fast to avoid Moondragon.

Ive got to say Team Light not knowing Anything about Team Doom (as they dont have any Marvel on them at all), meaning they will have no idea what Doom, Warlock, Moondragon, Karnak, Taskmaster, or Leech can do, is a Huge disadvantage in my book (something alone I have voted against in previous TOC matches here).

Very true. Gotta agree with this.

Yeah, I didn't even see that. The DC team won't know nearly enough to be able to take down Doom's team, not in their first try.

Vote - Doom

Yeah, put me down officially for Team Doom as well. Team Light has a major disadvantage in not knowing anything about nearly anyone on Dooms team, and with characters like Doom, Warlock, MD, Karnak.....heck, All of them, underestimating them is easily your downfall, Big Time! With planners like Deathstroke, Warlock and Doom on their side, such High End LWs (to MWs) as Karnak and Taskmaster, and someone who could actuall rob super powers from others in Leech, Team Doom definately takes this one more than not in my book.

My Vote - Team Doom

Yeah that's a pretty crippleing advantage, especially for a team as samrt as Doom's, to have.

On the flipside, Team Light does have a nice 'speedblitz' factor in Rival to go after the LWs/MWs, and Leech is useless so Doom's pretty much down a person.
