I have a question to ask you all.

I recently made a trade with a person that will remain anonymous. I will say, however, that they are the judge at a venue, so I sort of expected better, but c'est la vie.


I put up a thread over a month ago offering up my Specter.

I made it quite clear in that thread, that i was not looking for his exact financial equivalent. There was a short list of pieces I wanted.
This was basically someones chance to get something expensive at a more affordable price. I'm a player, not a collector.
I'll pay a lot for a piece I really want, and I'll give away something far cheaper then its worth if its something I don't want.


This gentleman offered me a trade that I agreed to. My trade rating was lower then his was, so I sent Specter out first.

I'm going to be upfront and honest right off the bat. My financial situation got sticky there for a bit, and I had to send out something like a week later then I initially promised I would.
I was open about this and told the guy right away, and apologized. He was fine with it.
I also forgot to send out the Spirit tokens with the main pack. They were sent out shortly thereafter, again, another apology.

He received Specter (and the Sentinel I threw in just because I didn't want it and thought he could enjoy it), and then sent out my pieces.

This was not however, what I received.
He PM'd me the day he sent out the package. He made mention that I should check out the note he wrote on the package, but didn't go into detail as to what the note was about.
Having no reason to be suspicious at the time, I didn't think too much into it.

What was missing from that list?
Scarlet Witch and Lex Luthor.
Their actual economic value, as I've made clear above, is of no concern to me. They are both characters I want, and thats all that matters.
Instead, this person, well, basically tried to buy me off by shoving in a bunch of stuff I didnt want or need. Mostly commons, Blue Devil, Scarecrow, Aleta, Blackfire, etc etc. He did send me the Vandal Savage U. Not a common from my understanding, I understand that.

The fact that I already have a ton of these, or don't want them (Savage) is completely irrelevant. What is relevant is that they were not on the list, and what was, did not arrive.

He stated he would send a few extra figs and cards as an apology for being late.
He made no mention whatsoever that the terms of the trade were not being met.
Well, except on the package itself, but its a bit LATE by that point I think.

Basically, the way I interpret this, is he knew he didn't have those figs. Instead of being upfront and honest with me, he tried to buy me off. He must have thought I'd disregard the absence of two important figs one I saw the "cornucopia of awesomeness" he did send.


I just recently PM'd him, asking if and when I should be expecting Lex and Scarlet Witch to arrive. I don't really expect to see them, however I thought I would give him a chance to explain his actions before I blast him and give him his first negative trade rating.

What would you all have done?
Have I been too nice?
Is this all fair and I should just be thankful for what I got?

Agreed. If he doesn't have what was originally agreed upon, it is your choice, not his, whether you accept the trade. Request that he return the Spectre; I'm sure you can get those figures on your want list from somebody else. If he gives you any problems, I would go as far as reporting him to Rock "The Bounty Hunter" 10.

Here is a similar situation and how I handled it: I made a trade for multiple figures. Both of us were receiving 3-4 uniques from the other. When the other trader received the figures I sent, Shadow King had broken off his base. Although Shadow King was not broken when I sent the figure, I still felt it was my responsibility to fix the sitution. I offered several solutions, which included agreeing to a new trade, sending back all of the figures, or having him try to fix the Shadow King (he chose to reglue the figure). A good trader will hold up their end of the bargain as promised.

Chiming in that you should request the Spectre be returned unless you get the Lex and Scarlet Witch. Not sure how long the trade has been "completed", or what his response was to your PM regarding them, but obviously try to work it out if you can.
As others have said, and you seemed to feel, substitutions certainly should not be made without contacting the other party. Extras are always nice, but not at the expense of agreed-upon figures.

Last resort, as mentioned above, contact a mod. rock810, K-ness or KitsuShel are the usual ones who are around these areas.

The trade was completed today, my girlfriend MSN'd me and let me know, typed out who arrived, etc.
I msg'd him not too long ago, asking for the missing figs. If that doesn't come through, then I'll request Spectre back.

Thanks folks, good to know I'm not the only one that thought that.

And if you don't get anywhere with this guy and it was a trade made on the Realms, get in tough with Rock810. He's the big bad bounty hunter after all and he should be able to put some pressure on your trade partner, too.

I msg'd Rock earlier today, still awaiting a response.
The guy is adamant that he's done nothing wrong. In fact he's painting me to be the bad guy, since I was late sending Spectre and the pogs out, and the Sentinel was broken.
(the free sentinel i threw in on a whim, that was never mentioned in the trade whatsoever)

(...yes he is actually complaining about something broken that was absolutely free of charge)

I'd be totally upset with the guy. Whenever I screw up a trade, and it DOES happen from time to time, I make it right. ALL traders should do the same. I would urge you not to give up trading just yet. Stick to the 100+ feedback traders if you're nervous. Even I've been scammed as I'm sure many other have too. We're not all bad guys.

He straight up told me he doesn't have them. apparently he's incapable of getting them, as well. apparently no one he knows has them, and he cannot get an eBay account. which is utter nonsense, eBay accounts are free. If he doesn't have a credit card or some manner of stuffing money into Paypal, surely he can find someone that can.
Well apparently not.

I think the only way I'm going to get ANY satisfaction at all on this, is choose option 2. No one else seems able to help, so thats that.
