HCR Rates The Movies #137: MAD MAX: THUNDERDOME
So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?

Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all:

MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDERDOME

Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

So, what say you all?

Next Film: ??????

What, no love for Mad Max on HCR?

OK, well for me this is definately a close one with which MM film I liked the best, The Road Warrior (or Mad Max 2 for you in NZ and similiar areas), or Beyond Thunderdome. Where RW had a dark, grim, gritty, and very serious tone about it, BT had a more fun, adventurous, lighter (though still serious) feel. Cool cast of characters in Bartertown, and even the gang of Lost Boys...er.....and Girls, was done well and didnt make you think what are these kids doing in a MM film. Very cool music, good story and acting, a chase at the end very reminsent of RW, but still very enjoyable to watch nonetheless, and overall an excellent ending to the Mad Max trilogy. If I gave MM a 7.25, and RW an 8, I think Ill go 8.25 for Beyond Thunderdome overall.

Uh, now the rest of you may participate any time you like.

I couldn't stand Mel Gibson even before all the DUI and Anti-semitic stuff, I really dislike the Mad Max series largely due to him and I don't like Thunderdome even more than I don't like the original.

Though I do admit that the soundtrack is awesome and the costumes are iconic, a good soundtrack and cool costumes do not a great movie make.

Huh. It appears that I've already written a pretty thorough review of this in the Mad Max thread. So I'll just base my score on that and give Thunderdome an 8.25.

Lensnart, ladies and gentlemen, continuing his total bashing of all things Mel Gibson for 3 threads running.

We don't need another hero.......... Max R(I'm not even gonna try to pronounce the last name).... burnout. Good stuff.
Mad Max works because it was a 70's B-movie with cool car crashes and scofflaw Rock-n-Roll Rebel(tm) bikers.....
Mad Max works because of it's apocalyptian feel....... heh, Mel Gibson and Apocalypse.....
When I saw MM3 I was unimpressed with it.... it seems too derivative of the Road Warrior with the big semi chase.... and the kids I thought really detracted from the story. I guess I was looking for a sequel to Road Warrior at the time.

Now, with less clear eyesight and a few more years I don't think it is as bad as I remember. Good production value(something you realize that is important after watching the 'producers daughter' try to be a pop star in the first one)
The establishing of Bartertown in the first place with it's scum and simplistic laws coupled with the children is a ray of hope in the bleakness of the Road Warrior.
8.5 because the soundtrack is good.
