A very successful businessman (Costner) named Mr. Earl Brooks has a dark secret. He’s kind of Batmaney. On the outside he’s a very respected, wealthy, and successful philanthropist. On the inside, he’s a polished off killing machine. He’s addicted to killing. He can’t stop. His alter ego (Hurt) keeps pushing and persuading him to keep killing. During one murder he’s spotted by a amateur photographer who blackmails him into taking him along on a murder. A driven detective (Moore) seeks to catch the “Fingerprint Killer”, while also dealing with her own problems of divorce and tracking down a killer whom she put away and is now looking for revenge. Mr. Brooks’ daughter has dropped out of school and come home to live with her parents. Mr. Brooks must now try to stop his killing while avoiding the detective, dealing with his blackmailer, and looking after his daughter and wife.
I was very impressed by how different this movie was from my expectations. Kevin Costner is great. His objectives are all well portrayed. You can really see the differences in his character clearly. William Hurt also does a great job. He’s incredibly frightening and creepy. The relationship between the characters is very clear and makes much more sense than a film like “Fight Club”. Dane Cook is in the movie and surprisingly he doesn’t ruin it. Demi Moore has a weird side storyline that we just don’t care about. It could have been removed to shorten the films’ length, and it (the story) still would have made sense. The lighting effects are great and add a lot to the atmosphere. The costumes and sets are believable. The camera angles are all well shot and keep you in the moment.

Throughout the course of the movie we care more and more about Mr. Brooks. The twists are all well placed. It is revealed that Mr. Brooks’ daughter is a murder addict just like her father. He covers her suspicion in a murder case by doing the same murder to someone else. He and his alter ego are concerned that she may kill him to take his wealth. In the end of the movie, he kisses his daughter good night, and she stabs him with scissors in the neck. It seemed very fitting and like it was a good ending place. But it turns out he was just dreaming. It turned an otherwise great ending into something from a soap opera.

VERDICT-SEE IT. A great movie. Compelling suspenseful storyline. Strong characters. Well worth seeing.
Know what's killing me about this movie? The ads going, "Full of twists that you'll have to see to believe" - and then the freakin' commerical proceeds to show you the twists. Someone slap the ad agency!
Still not giving up on Someday. "Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."
