ROCK WARS 5 (FAVORITE ALBUM): Round 2, Match 19
Thanks to you all, we have ourselves another MEGA 128 list full of classic albums, LPs, CDs, you name it, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two favorite albums face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As for the rules, well as Im sure youve all figured out by now, this isnt really a TOC in the “fighting to the death” kind of way. Our members will not be dropping their axe guitars and drumsets to physically beat the heck out of one another. No, here in this latest Rock Wars TOC, were going to pair up our Favorite Albums, in one on one competitions, as separate matches, at which time we'll all vote on which one we like the best.

Now this isnt just a “What has it done, How Iconic is it, how much has it Sold” contest. This isnt just which record is the more Classic or Legendary, but more of a which one do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and ultimately more deserving to move on. (Maybe you like The Cars more than Dark Side Of The Moon, or All Eyez On Me more than Abby Road, if so then vote accordingly and well go from there)

Pretty basic really. Albums are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, they go to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. Easy. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to All songs and arguments within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

Amazon.com links have been provided to every album here, most every one having complete song listings and 30 second clips of each song therein, so as to help us all re-acquaint ourselves with these classic or fan favorite albums. I do also urge anyone who wishes to do so (Not just its nominator), to support such albums, to post any songs from these records you wish via Youtube, which will no longer be supplied by myself. (means you lazy buggers are gonna have to do some work here for a change)

So, with that, lets get down to our Next of Many TOC Matches to come in HCRs Fifth Mega Battle Music Clash, ROCK WARS 5.

I give you:

SUPERUNKNOWN (Soundgarden)

vs.

PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN (Pink Floyd)

So what say you all. Which of these albums will be the First to move onto the Next Round, and which will be selling for $2.99 at your local bargain basement bin?

This isn't even a tiny bit close for me. I may not love soundgarden but I don't hate them, I sure can't say the same for floyd.

My Vote: Superunknown

PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN (Pink Floyd) gets my vote.

Though props should be given to this game for making me listen to Superunknown again.
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.

Here's my same spiel on Piper At The Gates Of Dawn:

Here are some Piper At The Gates Of Dawn links. I suggest listening to all of them, as every track on this album is very different from each other and incredibly different from anything you will ever here in Rock music:

Bike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMbVtovh8sY

Astronomy Domine, Lucifer Sam, and Take Up Thy Stethascope And Walk (all on one youtube clip together for some reason): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWXLDkNsoAk

The Gnome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hyiW...elated&search= (this is one of the funniest songs I've ever heard)

Interstellar Overdrive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TQeRZnPWpc (an instrumental psychadelic staple)

Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is one of the most off-the-wall, out there, imaginative and hilarious albums I have ever heard. It's completely different from later Floyd stuff, mostly because Syd Barrett was the band leader at the time. I don't even know how to begin describing it, but I will say you cannot call yourself a huge Pink Floyd fan without listening to this entire album.

So yeah, I'm voting for Piper. And I'm STILL waiting for Pashima to chime in.
My only hope is that the Big Lebowski kills me before the Germans can cut my d### off.

Well, as much as I Love Pink Floyd, I just cant vote for them here, as Piper and its songs dont do a single thing for me (its night and day to the songs of PF I know and love). Soundgarden has more than a few tracks that I like, so Superunknown gets my vote here.

I have a feeling I might be in the minority this go-round, but I'm going with Superunknown.

I've never been a huge Floyd fan, but I do like Piper better than Darkside, Wall, Animals...etc. I really do like Chris Cornall with SG/AS or solo and Soundgarden (Bulldozer is my fave song of theirs) gets quite a regular rotation on my Ipod.

Superunknown
“No! Please! I'll tell you whatever you want to know!" the man yelled.
"Really?" said Vimes. "What's the orbital velocity of the moon?"
"What?"
"Oh, you'd like something simpler?”

Okay, I'm enjoying these Pink Floyd tracks, actually, and may need to finally make an effort to get into this band.

But Spoonman is awesome.

Superunknown.

Even though you didn't vote for Syd Barret's Floyd, if you pick up a copy of Piper at the Gates of Dawn after listening to those sample tracks, I'll consider it a win.
