1) A full writeup of the rules can be found here: http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page. This game will be more complicated than what's described there, as nearly everyone has some sort of 'special thing' about them. Doesn't mean everyone has a night power, but you never know...

2) When you vote, please do so by saying Vote: [Player] in bold. If you wish to change your vote, please say Change Vote: [Player] instead. Voting for 'Nobody' is a valid vote; if a majority votes for 'nobody' then nobody will be lynched and we'll move on to the Night phase.

3) If your role says you -may- PM me a target, you don't have to do anything at night. Even so, it'll speed things along quite a bit if you'd still just send me a PM saying "Not using my [whatever] power tonight, thanks."

4) If your role says you -must- PM me a target, and you do not? I'll pick one randomly. Or, perhaps, not-so-randomly. Don't blame me if you target someone who kills you.

5) You may NOT send a PM to anyone about this game unless your role explicitly says you can. This is cheating.

6) Do NOT edit your posts in this thread. This is cheating.

7) Please do not copy-and-paste anything from any PM I send you to the thread. This is also cheating.

8) Please do not post in this thread after you are killed. This, too, is cheating and can ruin the game if done wrong.

9) Cheaters don't get to play in any other Mafia games I run. Period.

10) Remember, it's just a game. You will get paranoid, you will be stabbed in the back by someone, you will see somebody do or say something stupid and want to smack them. Just breathe deep and relax. If things get out of hand, we do have a mod playing who will forcibly remind you to chill out if needed. It hasn't happened yet, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Prologue (reprinted from the sign-up thread)

For years, the proud and mighty Skrull Empire had seen its dreams and ambitions thwarted by a handful of superpowered beings on a backwater planet. Tired of suffering countless indignities and humiliations, the Skrull High Command set in motion an audacious plan to bring the backward pink apes to heel.

The vast resources of a star-spanning empire would be used to bestow a select corps of Skrull infiltrators with super powers and immunity to every form of technological, mystical, and psionic detection available. Through infinite patience and cunning, these infiltrators would replace Earth's superheroes, eventually rendering the planet defenseless and ripe for conquest.

For years, the Skrulls moved slowly and surely towards their ultimate goal. Distracted by petty squabbles, Earth's heroes remained ignorant of the plans of their shape-shifting enemies. And had it not been for a single Skrull corpse, Earth's heroes might never have even realized that their world had been invaded.

Elektra. Black Bolt. No longer could Earth's heroes deny that their home was under siege. But after the "Civil War," who could they trust? Who could say whether a teammate or ally had not already been replaced by a Skrull? Was it already too late to save Earth from this insidious invasion?

The Skrulls are here, and they are among us.

Day 1

News about “Elektra” and “Black Bolt” spread quickly through the superhero community. How did the Skrulls fool Iron Man’s sensors, Professor X’s telepathy, Dr. Strange’s spells, Wolverine’s enhanced sense of smell, and Spider-Man’s Spider Sense?

In a packed conference room in the Baxter Building, Earth’s greatest heroes hoped to get answers. This was not the first time that the planet’s champions gathered to face an enemy beyond any of their individual abilities. But, unlike past occasions, there was no spirit of camaraderie.

Some made an effort to be civil, despite recent differences; but it was obvious that the civility was forced. A few carried on conversations in hushed tones. All wondered whether they could trust a teammate, friend, or ally.

The last arrival, a haughty man, threw open the conference room doors, making a dramatic entrance.

“Bah! Why do you surface dwellers sulk and mope when it is obvious who our enemy is?” Pointing at another man in a familiar suit of red and gold armor, he asked, “Sending the Hulk into space, the Registration Act—you were just doing what your Skrull masters told you to do, weren’t you, Stark?”

“I did what I believed—still believe—to be right! And if I were really a Skrull, why would I have shown you that Skrull who was impersonating Elektra?” retorted Iron Man. “For all I know, you could be a Skrull trying to spread disinformation. It’s certainly less ridiculous than your unfounded accusation.”

“I grow tired of your lies, Stark!”

“For God’s sake, Namor, calm down and think—“

“Imperius Rex!”

*WHAM!*

The room shuddered as Namor’s fist collided with an invisible force field.

“That’s enough,” said Sue Storm. “We’re not going to start acting like a lynch mob.” The King of Atlantis glowered, but took his seat.

“Why do we keep inviting that guy?” muttered Ben Grimm.

“What worries me is how everybody was getting ready to take sides. Just like in the ‘Civil War.’” Sue activated the Baxter Building’s intercom, knowing exactly where her husband could be reached. “Reed, we need you up here. The natives are getting restless.”

“I’ll be there in a second, honey,” answered Reed Richards from his lab. He had just finished fine-tuning a scanner that he hoped would solve their problems. For days, he had worked feverishly to find some way of detecting the Skrull infiltrators that had deceived all of them. Reed was confident that he had succeeded, and he prayed that it was not too late to stop the Skrull Invasion.

Suddenly, a flash of light appeared in the lab, followed by alarm klaxons blaring throughout the Baxter Building.

“Reed, what’s happening?”

“Something’s been teleported into the lab! Get Franklin and Valeria to safety! I’ll deal with this!”

Sue strapped her children into their seats in the Fantasticar.

“Be good, and do what Aunt Alicia says.” She kissed both of them on the forehead before engaging the autopilot. “We’ll see you soon.”

The Fantasticar lifted off, taking Franklin and Valeria Richards to safety.

What Reed didn’t tell his wife was that someone had teleported a quantum bomb into his laboratory. Nor did he tell her that he probably wouldn’t have enough time to disarm it. There was only one slim chance—a massive and immediate release of chronal energy would counteract most of the awesome energies that would be released by a quantum bomb, limiting the extent of the destruction.

Thanks to, of all people, Victor von Doom, such a source of chronal energy was at hand—the time machine that he created and that the Fantastic Four had seized on one of their earliest adventures. Quickly, Reed entered a series of commands into the machine.

In Reed’s lab, a time portal opened, coinciding with a massive outburst of quantum force. Inaudible in the ensuing maelstrom was the last word ever uttered by the most brilliant mind on Earth: “Sue.”

The explosion ripped through Reed’s lab, shaking the Baxter Building to its foundations. Recognizing that it was under attack, the Baxter Building’s security system entered lockdown mode, encasing the building in an impenetrable force field.

But for Mr. Fantastic’s quick thinking, the devastation would have been far worse. Instead, Earth’s greatest heroes would survive to battle the Skrull invasion.

Galvanized by Reed’s death, Earth’s heroes began to put aside their differences and resolved to stop the Skrull Invasion.

But not everyone was who they appeared to be. Among those who belonged to this group were the Skrulls entrusted with a vital mission by the Skrull High Command. Each of them was posing as one of the world’s greatest heroes, and although they feigned grief and anger, they secretly rejoiced at the death of Reed Richards, hated enemy of the Skrull Empire.

Earth’s heroes would die, replaced by Skrull Infiltrators. This pathetically backwards planet would fall. The ultimate and inevitable victory of the glorious Skrull Empire was surely imminent.

Meanwhile, three of Earth’s heroes managed to find a moment to talk among themselves.

“Matchstick and me—we’ve been looking at the security system’s records. Nothing turns up on video, but according to one of the sensors, right before the explosion, someone in the conference room sent some kind of signal.”

“That had to be the teleporter Reed’s killers used to smuggle the bomb inside.”

Knowing that the time for mourning would have to come later, the Invisible Woman considered this information and formed a plan.

“That means my husband’s murderers are still in this building. As long as that force field stays up, they’re trapped in here with us. We’re going to find them, and we’re going to make them pay.”

Doombot 3.1 is dead. He was Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic, hated enemy of the Skrull Empire and first casualty of the Skrull Invasion.

As you can see, I’ve decided to forego the traditional Day 1 “No Lynch” phase. However, for Night 1 only, this thread will remain open for discussion.

Finally, a note on continuity: For purposes of this game, the only confirmed Skrulls are Elektra and Black Bolt, as seen in recent issues of The New Avengers and the Illuminati miniseries. Characters that have been revealed to be Skrulls in other Marvel comics may or may not appear in this game. If they appear in this game, they may or may not be Skrulls.
